He left for Scranton, PA at 6:30 this morning for the ACC TOB Tournament (Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament of Bands). They have some work to do if they intend to coninue their unbroken streak. They are currently seeded #2 in Group 2. By luck of the draw, though they will go on the field right after the #1 seed.
My son's band doesn't go on until after 10:00 PM on Saturday night. The weather forcast is for temperatures in the middle to upper 20's. Freezing weather is not good to their instruments. We're hoping the forcasters are wrong and the temperatures are above freezing.
He wanted to bring my old laptop computer so that he and his bandmates could watch some movies during down time. After removing 8 viruses from the machine that took 6 hours, I got it up and running for him... At 4:15 this morning. Then I was up to take him to school (Ugh! I'm tired ).
We'll be leaving for Scranton tomorrow afternoon and won't be back home until late Sunday. He will gladly answer any questions or comments you have when he also returns on Sunday. Wish John and the Middle Township (NJ) Panther Marching Band luck this weekend!
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Good Luck John!! I hope he does well and I certainly hope the weather cooperates for the competition!
He is very handsome and sounds like a well adjusted all around great kid!
A&A'smommy replied: He is a HOTTIE (sorry I hope that isn't inapropriet I'm not really that much older than him) Anyway Good luck to him!!
redchief replied: Not at all. LOL He thinks he's pretty hot stuff too
gr33n3y3z replied: Hey everyone, it's good to be back home after a rather long weekend.
I have spent Thursday and Friday practicing all day. The weather was awesome on Thursday and Friday's weather was aweful, but we ended up being able to practice inside and had a great practice. Then later on that night we visited another band and spent the time getting to meet new people and seeing each others' show. Saturday morning wake-up call was early (7AM ). Spent the morning practicing some more, and then returned to the hotel to get dressed and all that fun stuff. We proceeded to the stadium afterwards, warmed up, and before I knew it, I performed my last marching band show of my highschool days. We ended up finishing in second place (no problems with that at all! although, it was a very different feeling because as long as I had been in marching band, we had always won first place.) Last night I finished my packing so I could sleep in longer although my room mates and friends wook me up early anyway . Now, I'm finally home after basically spending the last 4 months doing nothing but band. It definitely was the best of my years and I would not give it up for anything. I will be starting the musical this week and hopefully that should keep me busy. I'm not sure what else you guys want to know about me, but ask anything I'm very open minded and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
P.S. I hope that I'm doing this whole spotlight thing correct.

kimberley replied: hi John!
glad to hear the weekend went well . sorry the weather wasn't better for you. you must be proud of yourself for all that hard work!! what musical will you be starting? i have some spotlight questions for you ...
what is your dream car? do you have a girlfriend? what is your favorite type of music? what made you interested in architecture? describe yourself in 3 words
A&A'smommy replied: Thanks for sharing!
What college are you planning on? What do you enjoy most about band?
paradisemommy replied: Welcome Home and Congrats on placing 2nd..kinda a strange feeling knowing that was your last performance huh? oh by the way, you are doing this perfectly (the spotlight!!)..
Do you have any hobbies? What is your favorite thing to do? Do you plan on doing any firefighting? what's on your wish list for Christmas? Going to college? Which one?
By the way, you are a very handsome guy!!
gr33n3y3z replied: Hey Kimberley, I would like to start by saying thanks for everything.
I think the musical is called "Those Damn Yankees!" I don't really know all the details yet because between my friends wanting me to do it, and the teacher that runs it signed me up at the last minute.
My true dream car, as it has been the past 6 years, a BMW M5, I love them!!!!!
I do not currenly have a girlfriend, I have not had one since freshman year . It has always been one of those things for me where I don't like to push friendships into anything further than that. Plus, I have quite a few friends that are girls, and I would not give them up for a girlfriend who I think might have a problem with them.
I don't really have a favorite type of music. I like everything from classical to hip hop and rap. Usually, the music I listen to reflects my mood
I became first intrested in architecture by playing The Sims. I realized that I really just liked building the houses, and when my parents brought up that we were going to have our house remodeled, I made the plans and really enjoyed doing that. Plus, I have always had an instrest in houses and their designs.
Fun, caring, yet responsible.
Thanks for the questions and if you want to know anything else... don't be afraid to ask.

gr33n3y3z replied: hey there jessica,
I am hoping to get into Northeastern University in Boston. I love Boston and they have an excellent program. I do have a few other back ups just in case.
The thing that I like most about band... wow, that's actually a hard one to answer. At first I would be inclined to say, "Nothing," because it is extremely extensive, time consuming, and physically and mentally demanding. But, now that marching band is finally over, I know that I will miss the time that I get to spend with all my friends. It is not often that I can be with all my friends at once, but practically everyone is family so it's really nice. It is definitely one of those experiences, no matter how hard or boring it ever was at times, I will always remember it and those memories that I have acquired by being in the program.
Anything else???

gr33n3y3z replied: hiya Tammy,
Thanks for the congratulations, and yes it was strange since it was my very last performance because my 4 years of high school have flown by.
For my hobbies, I have an intrest in music and the arts. I also have a major intrest in car (I did at once have 6 magazine subscriptions at once). I've started a small coin collection.
My favorite thing to do would definitely have to be hanging out with my friends. I love them all so much and spending time with them. Whether we go all out, or just stay at home and watch movies, doing anything with them is a lot of fun.
I never really planned on doing anything involving the fire company, all I really want to do is drive the trucks . I just don't think I am made for that kind of stuff. It's not something that really matches my personality, as much as I like helping people out.
Well, my wish list for Christmas, as of now, isn't very big. I took my dad's memory card out of his camera for my weekend since the one I had didn't hold a lot; so, he had to buy a new one and gave it to me since it holds even more than the one I orginally took. So that is considered one present. I really don't want anything else, as far as I am concerned I really don't need much. Plus, with it being my senior year, my poor parents seem to be an endless supply of cash here and there, so I really don't want anything. Maybe a few new clothes (I do love new clothes) and I am kind of hoping for a portable DVD player (the laptop's a bit bulky).
Thanks for the comment and thanks for all the questions. And if you have anymore, just ask away.
Have a good one! --John
gr33n3y3z replied: Hey everyone
Just wanted to add a different picture, I am not a big fan of the first one. Kind of a last minute in the rush picture. This is one of me from my weekend.
paradisemommy replied: you sound like such a well rounded young man! any woman is going to definitely be lucky to get you!!!
so since you took lots of pictures, can you share any with us?? we love pictures!!!
hmmmm....
most embarrassing moment? favorite family memory? what has driven you to be such an awesome student (great grades?)..does it come naturally or do you have to study a lot? your favorite present of all time? do you have a car right now? if so, what is it? do you get along with your siblings? are you guys really close?
am i asking too many questions??
gr33n3y3z replied: I will share some pictures... I'll post them after this message.
I really don't have a most embarrassing moment of my life. I mean, little things here and there might make me slightly embarrassed, but never have I been embarrassed to a point where I want to dive into the ground and stay there for awhile.
My favorite family memory would have to be going up on our vacation. I love that vacation in the mountains. It's definitely relaxing, fun, and everything in between.
Nothing I can recall, except self- satisfaction has made me the student I have become. I right now have a 3.784 gpa (not too bad...). I think if I actually applied myself and studied more, I could be more sucessful, but I have a hard time doing that sometimes.
Yes, I do have a car of my own, I spent all summer working for it. It's a red 1994 chevy berretta and I love the thing to death, so far anyway.
Do I get along with my siblings...? hmm. lol. Katie: for the most part we get along quite well. The only time we really have any problems is when I become fustrated with her and her school work because I attempt to make her the best she can be. So, at times, that can become a bit fustrating. Erin (3 yrs older than Katie, yet still 2 yrs younger than me): Probably if this question was answered a few years back I would have to say we fight constantly. However, Erin and I have created a rather strong bond with each other the past few years and it only builds as the years progressed. We definitely rely on each other for help in certain situations and we get along the best. Rick (the older brother): As upsetting as it is, lately (within the past year) we've been fighting constantly because we have a hard time remaining on the same level as one another. We both, for the most part, have completely different points of view, and we think differently. Although we have been fighting lately, we manage to have that older brother, little brother bond somewhere in between it all.
And don't worry about asking too many questions... like I mentioned before I am very open minded and I will talk about anything.

redchief replied: I suppose Thursday through Saturday of band practice and playing in cold and rain took it to him. John's home sick today with a nasty sore throat. Call's in to the doc; hope to get him back on his feet quick!
kimberley replied: oh no i hope he feels better soon!
paradisemommy replied: yuckers!! poor thing..get well soon!! lots of vitamin c and echinachea is always good!!
gr33n3y3z replied: I am feeling a little bit better tonight. Throughout the day I got my voice back, me hardly being able to talk was hard to do. lol. An upper resperitory infection is the little devil of it all. Now that I got medicines and such, hopefully it will be better in a few days. But I just wanted to say thanks for worrying about me and enjoy your night!!!
