? about formula

kayla's mama wrote: I was just making some formula, powdered, and starting thinking. Why when I pour 20 oz. of water and use 10 scoops of formula I end up with about 24 oz. Am I deluting the formula by adding water first then powder? How do ya'll make formula. I tried the blender but it seemed to thin.

ediep replied: I don't really understand your question, but I do remember that the measurments are 2 ounces of water to every scoop of powder.

moped replied: Yep - 4 scoops to 8 onces of water - shake it up................sounds like you aren't using enoughwater..............but I didn't understand the question

JAYMESMOM replied: You are doing it right. 2 oz water for every scoop of formula it does bring the amount up just like putting sugar in kool-aid. You normally don't notice it that much with one bottle. But when you make it in bulk you notice it more. Just add powder to water and shake.

A&A'smommy replied: I used the kind in the can... wink.gif

Jamielou replied: I used the powder but i only made a bottle as i needed it wink.gif

kayla's mama replied: thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't deluting the formula by water first then the powder.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
no no, you`re doing great. If you add the formula first, you'll end up with formula that is TOO STRONG.

luvbug00 replied: I made several bottles at a time 2 scoops for every 8 oz. Good luck!!

ediep replied:
Actually, I don't think so. Adding water to powder or powder to water is the same thing as long as you are premeasuring the water.

3_call_me_mama replied: If I get your question.. you are putting 20 oz of water in a measuring cup right? Then you are adding 10 scoops of formula. It will appear that the water moves up to 24 oz, because the formula has not dissolved yet and will make thewater rise. But if you shake it up, it will disolve, and make teh right amount, or if it is still showing 24 ounces it could be from the air bubbles that are created from shaking it. ]

I think what Zach's mom was saying is IF you put 10 scoops in first then add water up to the 20 oz mark, it will be too thick. (becasue you aren't really adding 20 ounces, you are adding approximately 16 because the water is sitting on the pile of formula at the bottom) Hope that helps....

I'm just guess that this is the problem because I never used formula, it just mathematically makes sense.

Mommy2BAK replied:
thumb.gif Thanks, I was just thinking all of that!

that`w what I meant.... don`t add water after formula to get it to 20 ounces rather than to 24 ounces - you still need 20 ounces of water reagardless whether you put the formula first or after.
