? about used car sets!

Nicole wrote: I had a new car seat with DS1 and DS2 and DD! My sister gave me one for this baby do you all think it`s ok to use it? I asked and it`s not been in any kind of fender bender or anything! I still have some time and we may go get a new one still! But i just thought i waould ask and see what you guy`s have to say.

Boys r us replied: If it's not been in a wreck and it has the latch system I would consider using it, otherwise, no. I would buy a new one!

Nicole replied: by latch do you mean the thing you leave in the car? wacko.gif (sorry gosh i should know all this by now blush.gif ) hahaha

Boys r us replied: No, the latch system is where the carseat uses tethers to hold it in place that are attatched from the car seat to anchors in your car. this is something relatively new(last few of years) basically it takes the place of using the seatbelt.

A&A'smommy replied: exactly what Nichole said, someone gave me a used car seat but I was too affraid to use it so we got a new one. If you have it with you, you can show it to the hospital, WIC or the police station and they can tell you if it is safe or not.

coasterqueen replied: I agree with Nicole too.

Although I think the infant carrier carseat we had for Kylie doesn't have a tether system and we will still use it for this baby because we already have three bases that other people use in their cars for the baby (babysitter, grandparents, etc).

Nicole replied: OK i know what your talking about, but i have a Dodge Durango and it don`t have that set up in it!

But thank you all so much! and i`m just going to be safe and go buy a new one!
I would rather go spend 70/80 bucks on a good car seat then chance on of the loves of my life!

Jamison'smama replied: We're re-using ours--I don't have a problem with it. Do the infant seats have the latch systems on them now? I didn't think they did---just the regular car seats right? I just bought new bases for my carseat and they haven't changed. The carseat Jamison was invloved in a wreck in went into the trash the same day!

Boys r us replied: I don't know what year your durango is, but most vehicles that are around '98 and up have the latch buckles in them. Put your fingers down into the seat and see if you feel little metal loops.

Jamison'smama replied: The Latch systems became standard on all new cars in 2002--my 2001 Pathfinder isn't equipt with it so I'm not sure about your Durango. They are nice-DH has it in his car we use it with Jamison's carseat but won't be able to with the infant carseat.

coasterqueen replied:
We have latch in our van but not in our car. I don't think our infant car seat we had for Kylie has latch capability. We will still be using it though.

Nicole replied: Oh really i didn`t know that i`ll go look and see if just maybe my trucks a 2001! I`ve only had my truck for 4 months so i`ve never had to look and see if it has that or not as my two that are still in boster seats just buckle in!
