5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

luvmykids wrote: 5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well.
Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook
for 3 minutes at 1000 watts. The cake will rise over the top of the
mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a
plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to
feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most dangerous cake
recipe in the world?
Because now we are all only 5 minutes
away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!

My3LilMonkeys replied: So is it good?

luvmykids replied: I haven't tried it yet, the kids are still awake rolling_smile.gif

LovelyBear18 replied: MMmmm I love chocolate.. I might made this tonight for my lover smile.gif

thanks luvmykids... laugh.gif

cameragirl21 replied: Does this taste like chocolate cake or like a brownie? I am not big on chocolate cake but love brownies. tongue.gif

PrairieMom replied: someone try this, so I don't dirty my own dishes for skunky cake. laugh.gif

luvmykids replied: I will try it tonight after the kids go to bed, I'm stingy when I'm testing recipes rolling_smile.gif

luvmykids replied: Ok, it's in the oven, er, microwave as we speak. I'll come tell you guys how it is.

moped replied: I emailed this along and a freind emailed and said that if you add 1/4 tsp baking soda it will make all the difference

So how is it?

luvmykids replied: I think it needed the baking soda, it wasn't bad at all though tongue.gif It just didn't get super cakey. Don't get me wrong, it was yummy, it reminded me of one of those Betty Crocker microwave cake things. I don't think I could have dumped it out on a plate like the picture showed, but my microwave is old too so I may have needed to cook it a little longer.

MoonMama replied:
Ok Monica I have to ask a few questions now. rolling_smile.gif

What kind of mug should I use for this? Just like a regular mug?
How the heck do I know if my microwave is 1000 watts? blink.gif

Reason I ask is I was thinking this might be a cute gift to give to those 4 million people/neighbors you always have to give gifts too for Christmas, but can never think of anything. All the dry ingredients in a mug (food saver packed) with an instruction card. thumb.gif
I'll have to do some trial and error with it first though. wink.gif rolling_smile.gif

Hmmm I wonder if it did need baking soda and how much one would add. huh.gif
ETD: Never mind that one I just read Jen's post on it. rolleyes.gif

luvmykids replied: I used the biggest mug I have, which is a little bigger than an average mug, it probably holds one and a half of my regular mugs. The inside of my microwave door has the specs on it, mine is 1200 watts (I think) but older so it seems like cooking times have slowed down a little.

It was good enough for me to try it again laugh.gif and I think that sounds like a really cute gift idea!

MoonMama replied:
Ok got it, thumb.gif I'm going to try this tomorrow. Awesome, thanks Monica. thumb.gif hug.gif

MoonMama replied: Ok I couldn't help it, I just gave it a try. rolling_smile.gif

I don't have any large mugs so....

I mixed everything in another container, I DID add the baking soda, and made it in 2 mugs (since DH is still awake and had to have some too laugh.gif). So I put half in each mug. My darn microwave did give me any specs. dry.gif So I put each in for 3 minutes and watched them. They turned out so yummy and very cake like. thumb.gif I put a plate under each mug and I am thankful I did, DH's spilled over although mine didn't. huh.gif

Thanks so much for posting this Monica. thumb.gif thumb.gif
