9 minutes in the car.... - a little story

moped wrote: So I go to the store today and pulled into the parking lot, this is a box mall type area, fairly big and busy. I get a parking spot and go to get out of the car and notice there is a girl alone in the car beside me about 2ish........so I said to Jack, wait for a minute, so we wait and I keep an eye on the clock, 9 MINUTES pass and finally the mother casually strolls out. So I open my door and said "WOW that was 9 minutes that I know of that she was alone 9 MINUTES...................she looked at me like I was a loon and sped away. I was sick about it, couldn't believe it. I wonder how long she was gone before I even pulled up? UGH!!!!!!!!

BTW I live in a city of over 1 million and this was a fairly busy shopping area!

AlexsPajamaMama replied: How sad that people really still leave their kids in the car, this world isnt safe at all and it only takes a split second for something terrible to happen! Id be worried the whole time I was in the store if I left my kid alone. Id rather deal with a bratty kid in the store than have to deal with some one kidnapping them

MommytoKKC replied: There have been two recent cases here in Ohio where a parent "forgot" about their child in the car while they went into work and in both cases the child died. Both parents also never had any charges against them because it was an accident. I personally do not understand how you can forget about your child in the car, especially for eight hours while working. And, in both of these cases, they worked in schools! One was an assistant principal! If I ever spot a child in a car alone, I will always call the police. The risk is too great not to do something.
