A Picture of the wall I painted

I started with a barely yellow and a light pink clay color and rolled it with a special roller to do sponge type painting. The two colors on their own went well with the decor in the room, but when they mixed, they created a coraly orange color that doesn't match. I would love to have this wall somewhere else in the house though. So, I'm going to Lowes today and I'm going to buy a creme color and paint that as the base and let it dry then sponge some blush color on it and then do a taupe glaze over it.
mammag replied: It is pretty! Post an after picture when you're done.
Josie83 replied: Hey, I REALLY like it! Very artistic! and what a beautiful way btw. Why have you decided to paint over it? xx
Kaitlin'smom replied: it is pretty
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Sponge painting is SO hard!! You did a wonderful job. I'm sorry it wasn't the color you wanted.
Boys r us replied: Golly Jee Jeepers Josie...I thought I explained that it didn't match the stuff in the room It doesn't match the area rug I have in there and there is NOOOOO WAY Rick is going to let me buy a new rug when the paint is only like $40 bucks!
Josie83 replied: O sorry. I'm colour blind and thought it went fine . . . oh and I was KIDDING!! I was kidding you because I thought it was funny you had spent so long doing it only to THEN realise it didn't go . . . . and your explanation made me laugh . . . sorry, misunderstanding xx
Kaitlin'smom replied: ya from the picture it looks fine but we cant see what else is in there for ti not to go, darn it looks so nice to bad he wont let you just re-decorate to go with it
DVFlyer replied: I was going to say you should paint the whole wall like that. But if it doesn't match, it doesn't match.
Good job on it.
jcc64 replied: I think it's nice, Nichole. I guess it's hard to tell from the pic what doesn't go with what- to me it looks fine. I've done quite a bit of sponge painting/color washing, mural painting, etc. If I ever lose my job, I've had offers to paint for other people. What I've found works best is to choose colors that are close in either weight or hue. That is, use either 2 different yellows ( a light creamy butter with a darker mustard, for ex) , or if you want to use 2 different colors, try to make sure they're a similiar weight- when the chips are side by side, neither color looks vastly darker or lighter than the other. In my experience, the more the contrast, the jumpier, more "active" the result. I prefer a more subtle look- that's just my taste. I often start with an off white or beige, and choose a light shade of whatever color I want to end up with.
Boys r us replied: Here are a couple of things that it doesn't match that are in the room..the rug, which I just moved from the kitchen and bought a new one for the kitchen..so there is NOOOO way that I can buy a new rug to match the wall and then these little decorative boxes, which just kind of give you a feel for the general color scheme in the room. See the yellowish/creme color in the rug and then the clay pink..those are the colors I was trying for, just a subtle blend..didn't work..lol! Try try again!

Boys r us replied: Thanks Jeanne for the tips, I think I was going too far apart as far as the hues of the colors.
DVFlyer replied: Costco recliner?
jcc64 replied: Nichole, what about if you tried the same yellow, and then used the camel/caramel color (or so it looks on my monitor) to the bottom right of the yellow in the rug? That's what I was talking about- colors that are in the same general family. Also, if you are sponging, and find the second color too intense/contrasty- you can always either sponge it off while it's still wet (with a damp clean sponge or rag) , or go back over it after it's dry with the first color in a hit or miss fashion to tone it down. There's no wrong way to do it, really. Good luck.
Boys r us replied: ??? confused on your question, LOL are you asking me if we got it at Costco?LOL No we don't have one of those here, we got it at a furniture store here!
Jeanne! Good Idea! Thanks!!
Kaitlin'smom replied: ya I see what you mean does not match....to bad its nice
DVFlyer replied: Yup, I was guessing it was the recliner Costco was selling. It looks very similar to yours. We have one and two of my co-workers have one. It's a Lane recliner and very nice. I was just trying to be a know-it-all.
CCTandME replied: If you go to Home Depot, they have brochures for the different techniques. They also have samples of different color combos. BTW, I really like what you did. Good job!!
