A comment today....
MyLuvBugs wrote: I swear people have a disconnection between their brains and mouths somedays. We went to the Triple A office to get something noterized today, and the lady there asked when baby #2 is due. So I said September 5th and smiled. She then says "Oh wow! I don't think you'll make it. You look like you're about ready to pop."
Now, honestly.....what on earth made her think that that would be a nice thing to say to a pregnant hormonal woman in her third trimester? Seriously! There was a major disconnection of brain and mouth in this case.
At least it'snot like a co-worker I had with my last pregnancy that said I looked like I was going to have twins at anymoment when I was only 6 months along.
PrairieMom replied: I used to get that all the time! Now I just pray I loose my baby weight before I go back to work so I don't have people asking me when my baby is due!
AlexsPajamaMama replied: How ignorant!
I got that alot too when I was pregnant....I hated it when it came from some one who had no clue about pregnancy.
TheOaf66 replied: touchy subject I never say anything unless I know the person very well and know they can take it.
ediep replied: thats rude!!!!
when My friend who is almost 6 feet tall, was pregnant with her first, was asked by someone "are you sure there isn't something wrong with your baby, your belly looks small"
well, she was almost in tears and she just said..."nope, I am just tall so thats the way I carry"
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Yeah, I wish people could simply say "Congrats, when are you due?" and that's it!! Especially if they're a stranger! I get the opposite which isn't always a pleasent comment either..."you're so small, you MUST have small babies." Kindof like what Edie said...as if I'm not feeding my baby and he/she will "obviously" come out small. I always spit out "Wil was over 8 lbs, so NOOOOOOO, I do not have small babies!"
Don't let it bother you sweetie...
kimberley replied: people should require permits to speak. sorry that happened to you but its better than the beep beep beep (truck backing up) noises i got in my first 2 pgs morons.
Cece00 replied: My mom & my hubby keep telling me that...I dont find it rude, though, we ARE expecting him to be a pretty decent sized baby, possibly on the rather large side.
MyLuvBugs replied: Oh I'm not. I just find it dumb that someone I've never met before would find that an appropriate comment to make. KWIM?
jaytrevjax replied: Some people have the OMIF syndrome! (Open Mouth Insert Foot)
Boo&BugsMom replied: I got that a lot too with my son who was over 9 pounds when born. It didn't bother me though because it was the truth. I did look like I was having twins and I totally looked like I was ready to pop at 6 months. I think people sometimes just don't know what to say, and it's such a common comment. I just shrug it off. They could be saying much worse things, or saying something like that when someone is not pregnant. That would be a lot more insensitive. I guess it wouldn't bother me, but that's just me. Everyone is sensitive in their own way, especially pregnant hormonal women:).
CantWait replied: Very rude indeed. I guess I'm lucky, I never really had to worry much about stuff like that when I was pregnant
ashtonsmama replied: BAD IDEA TO SAY THAT TO A PREGNANT WOMAN.
Hoo boy. I would've socked her.
Trust me, I already look like I'm about 6-7 months pregnant (according to some dopes), so I'm with ya. I'm sure you're gorgeous.
ProudMother4857 replied: Just try to ignore it. Don't forget that your the one with a beautiful baby on the way!!!!!
ZandersMama replied: I had a wonderful in law mention lately that I must be due inthe end of august stupid people make me angry. When I corrected her she told me I was really packing it on this time............umm, I weigh 124lbs!
joshsophia replied: I completely understand. I work in a nursing home and geriatric patients don't seem to have any filters. When I was pregnant one of my patients said "I can tell you are pregnant because you are carrying all of your weight in your bottom". I just responded with "gee thanks for letting know my rear was noticably bigger". I think if you respond with a witty/funny comment that still lets the other person know that maybe his/her wording wasn't chosen well then you won't spend the entire day wondering if all people on earth are rude......Dont stress about it though.
Jackie012007 replied: ugh yeah people say/do the rudest things... I'm heavy to begin with, so now that I am 17 weeks gosh I look like 7 months pregnant and when people ask me when I'm due and I tell them January, their eye's bug out of their heads I hate that!
joshsophia I am with you on the elderly! I used to work in teh Extended Care Facility in my hospital, and MANNNN they will tell you EXACTLY what they think of you! I have had very large breasts since I was like 10, and when I was 16 I worked there and one of the men told me "we all knew what the women who looked like you did back in my day"... uhhh yep, you got me, I'm a 16 year old prostitute
