A question about sweet tea - Canadians please read
moped wrote: So Leanne mentioned McDonalds sweet tea. I know that in the past when i have been to the states I should NEVER order iced tea, because it is just cold tea (bitter), here we have always had iced tea sweet......sweet tea i guess. So any canadians know if we are talking about the same thing?
I grew on on yummy iced tea!
PrairieMom replied: they have sweet tea in the south, but Here in the Midwest no one knows what it is. I think it depends on what region you are in.
mckayleesmom replied: I grew up in Cali and tea was always served plain and you added sweetener. I had never heard of sweet tea being served until I moved to the South.
CantWait replied: Iced tea and Sweet tea are definetly two different things, but I like em both
Our Lil' Family replied: Sweet Tea is just iced tea that has been sweetened for you, usually with loads of sugar! Here most places serve it both ways.
Boo&BugsMom replied: There are a lot of people I know around here who love sweet tea. However, there are an equal amount who like it the plain bitter way (like me )!. I can't stand the sweet tea. Too sugary for me. I like it plain and cold, nothing added.
Danalana replied: I'm pretty sure nobody makes sweet tea like they do down here If you could just try it, it would change your very lives!! Our Mexican restaurant makes it the best around here...I usually drink so much that I can't eat very much Come on down, and I'll show you a good time!
DillsMommy replied: Oh sweet tea makes me happy. I have to agree with Leanne, McDonalds tea is amazing. The sweeter the better, IMO.
Cece00 replied: You can have it sweetened or unsweetened...generally when you go somewhere they ask how you prefer it.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Dana, I've had southern sweet tea...and...blahhhhhhhhhh! *puke*
No offense.
I just don't like anything remotely sweet in my iced tea. Now, hot tea I like with honey and lemon. But iced tea I can not have anything sweet in it or I wont drink it. It needs to be bitter for me. That's the way my whole family drinks it.
Danalana replied: That's just sad, Jennie...
Boo&BugsMom replied: No way man...I think your sweet tea is just gross. You're the one that needs help, you southern folk. Adding anything to it simply ruins it!
Celestrina replied: Boo&BugsMom, I couldn't agree with you more. The only tea I like sweetened is green tea, which tastes quite different from regular tea. Most sweet tea is so sweet that it will upset my stomach, and considering how I am addicted to sugar that is saying something.
My2Beauties replied: This is my face after Jennie's post
Who doesn't like sweet tea!
Ok Jen...the thing is if it's brewed with sugar then the taste is much much sweeter and you don't get the gritty taste you get if you use sugar once it's already been brewed and you don't get the aftertaste if you sweeten it with anything with aspartame. Sweet tea is delicious and the further south you go the sweeter it is and I love it.
Danalana replied: See, LeaAnn knows the truth! What I don't understand is people ordering it UNsweet and then sweetening it when they get it I have tried that and it is NOTHING like the way it's supposed to be
jcc64 replied: SWEET TEA ROCKS! I'm so happy McDonald's carries one, b/c ever since I lost my job and stopped traveling regularly to North Carolina, I missed it soooooo much. It's one of my very favorite things about the South, along with how friendly and polite everyone is in comparison to us surly, rude New Yorkers. Unsweetened ice tea??
Boo&BugsMom replied: I've tried it in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and North Carolina...it was ALL GROSS!!!
Excuse me while I find a trash can to hurl in.
Boo&BugsMom replied: I don't...........
TheOaf66 replied: Yes Jennie likes her cold dirt water
Danalana replied: That's what I was gonna say....I have tried it unsweet, and it tastes like nothing more than colored water.
luvmykids replied: If I'm going to drink it because it's hot and I'm thirsty, I like it unsweet. If I'm doing it for the sheer pleasure, I like sweet tea (and I mean Southern sweet tea).
My fall iced tea is cinammon tea. Delish!
Celestrina replied: No, some of us like to actually taste the tea, and not just sugarwater.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Thank you!
If you make it with enough tea leaves, it has a wonderfully strong tea taste to it. You have to make it dark though, not light.
Calimama replied: Growing up we drank iced tea without sugar. I prefer it that way. I have to really be in the mood for that much sugar. It's way, way, way, way too sweet for me most days.
TheOaf66 replied: I like mine with lemon but that is just me
coasterqueen replied: Hey, I'm a mid westerner and I know what it is. I grew up on sweetened tea. It makes me throw up to even try it now. Thank goodness Ryan doesn't like his sweetened too.
A&A'smommy replied: I agree nothing better in the world than sweet southern tea our local "italian" resturaunt makes the best sweet tea around here... my husband is from missouri so he likes an inbetween mixture of tea not bitter but not real sweet I grew up putting 3-4 cups of sugar in tea
Danalana replied: Not sure how much we used to use...I don't drink it quite as sweet as my grandmother used to make it, but still pretty darned sweet
Swood75 replied: Sweet tea is the BEST!!! If you come down here (South Carolina) you better ask for unsweet if you want it b/c if you don't you will most likely get sweet tea.. I don't know how anyone can drink unsweet tea..It is and when I make mine I use 4 tea bags and 2 cups of sugar for 1 gallon..
