A sign that the times have changed....
MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley doesn't have a printer hooked up to her computer (for a reason), so she asks to use mine when she wants to print something. So, came up to me and asked me if she could use my computer today. She said, "Can I use your computer to Google coloring pages and print them?" She logged onto my computer, brought up a browser, typed "animal coloring pages" in the google search bar and then proceeded to print out a zoo coloring book.
Then, about an hour later, we were watching a little tv while we ate lunch and they said something about a phone book. And, Ashley asked, "what's a phone book?" (We don't get them as we just look numbers up online).
Thinking back at all that just made me chuckle a little about how much things have changed. I am surprised they still print phone books... does anyone ever use them?
coasterqueen replied:
Yeah, we use them. It just seems faster when you know exactly what you are looking for.
TheOaf66 replied: we have one wrapped in a bag on our front porch that has been there over a month now
lisar replied: I have one only because I didnt have internet at home for such a long time. At work I never use it, I look online.
And I know how it is with the printer, Lexi dont have acess to mine either she will print everything
mom21kid2dogs replied: I rarely look up a number online. I almost only use the phone book~LOL!! It would be inconvienient for me to run to the computer room, wait for the internet to come up, type in something in a search box, wait for it to load, write it down and go back to the phone to call. The phone book is right under the phone.
MommyToAshley replied: I can see how that would be a hassle to you. Our computers are always on and the internet is always "up", never disconnected. I just click on a browser and there ya go -- much easier than picking up a book and flipping through the pages. LOL. (oh, and there is a phone right next to each computer).
Crystalina replied: I know! I never use them and I don't even think i have one.
DVFlyer replied: That's great...
We never use a paper phone book. I'm amazed they still print them. I'd give it another few years at best and they'll be gone. Just like newspapers but they'll be around a bit longer.
MoonMama replied:
That's cute and funny Dee Dee.

moped replied: I do not use one - haven't for ages, but Tom still does and it drives me INSANE so I have to put it away about 6 times a day
jcc64 replied: They just keep showin' up in my mailbox- I must have 6 of them. We have to pay to throw our garbage away, and I hate taking up valuable space in my trashcan. Anyone know if they're recyclable?
My2Beauties replied: I use them at home because our 'puter is in the basement and it's very slow, but at work I always use whitepages.com. I also use 411 a lot on my cell phone when I'm say driving and need a #
luvmykids replied: LOl!!!! I was telling the kids I didn't have a computer or internet when I was their age, and that computers in businesses had to have huge rooms with fans dedicated to keeping them cool, etc...I still remember my boss coming into work one morning and telling us about Prodigy and being so fascinated
I do use a phone book, I keep it with me in the car.
sc_mom2five replied: We use them and also look things up online too.
Our county passed out around 10 different phone books this year and for the life of me I can NOT figure out why. Some of them are for different areas but the most of them are for Spartanburg city. Wouldn't one book just suffice for that??
~Roo'sMama~ replied: My parents use theirs - until 3 months ago they didn't have internet so they needed them. I always look numbers up online - to me it is faster than looking in the phone book, plus where we live (not here with my parents, but at our own house) the local phone book doesn't cover a lot of the places we need to call, since we live an hour and a half south of the Twin Cities and a lot of the time we need to call friends or business in the Metro area.
Cece00 replied: We have them...but we never use them
A&A'smommy replied: its amazingly crazy!!
My3LilMonkeys replied: I use the phone book for menus mostly - most of the small town mom n pop takeout places in our area don't have websites, but almost all of them print their menus in the phone book.
HuskerMom replied: I always use the phone book, I never even thought to look up numbers online. I guess it's just easier for me to flip through the book. They send out new ones about every 4 months.
mom21kid2dogs replied: They are in Ohio.
Calimama replied: We opted to not even have them delivered. That's a lot of wasted paper to just throw away IMO. We use internet as well.
