ACCCKKK! Freaking out here!
MommyToAshley wrote: I got Ashley's dance costume for her recital today. We should have gotten it last Thursday, but we missed that class. Anyways, when I recieved the costume today, the secretary was explaining what had to be done: 1. The belt has to be sewn on (which won't be easy because it has a fluffy tu-tu skirt. 2. The straps (which are a clear plastic) need to be cut, re-threaded and then sewn into the costume. 3. And, to top that off, they recommended hot glueing something inside the top of the costume because it is itchy.
I made the statement that I don't sew and asked if they had anyone there that I could pay to do this. And, she said, "oh no, we don't do that" So, I said that when I paid $40 for a costume, I didn't expect to have to assemble it. The other Moms made me feel even worse ... they all said, "oh it's no big deal" Well, it is to me. I don't want to ruin Ashley's costume! Her pictures are on Sunday, there is no way I will have her costume ready by then. One Mom said it took her almost two hours to press all the layers.
When I got home and tried the costume on Ashley, she didn't want it on for even a few seconds... she was complaining about how bad it itched.
I feel like the crappiest Mom for not knowing how to sew, and I don't know anyone to ask. I am in a panic here!
luvbug00 replied: Yeah I remember that. My mom sewed and crafted so many constumes it's sad.
gr33n3y3z replied: Oh my I always hated that thats one reason Erin got out of dance we always had to have SOMEONE hem the bottoms to the right legth and tuck it in here and there I had to pay someone to do that stuff bc I couldnt sew to save my butt plus the costumes were any where from 90.00 and up!!!
just take your time you will do fine and for the itches I cant beleave they would order something like that
As for the mothers comments thats a true Dance Mom out of control so look out and run lol
My3LilMonkeys replied: If I were closer I'd help you out in a heartbeat!!
kimberley replied: do you have a local dry cleaner with a tailor? i am sure they could do it in a jiffy and have it pressed as well. i am in the same boat.. no clue how to sew and no one to help so i use tailors or seamstresses.
luvmykids replied: I can't sew either, ITA with Kimberley, just find a tailor or seamstress in the phone book.
CantWait replied: I'm so sorry. I don't sew or iron. I dreaded cadets every week because Robbie's uniform had to be ironed, and the badges needed to be sewed on twice a year.
A&A'smommy replied: OKAY don't panic it really isn't that bad and you will get it done just try not to panic i'm sure you wont ruin it!!! I hope you find someone so you don't have to do it!! OH and 40 dollars isn't too bad we have paid LOTS more for past costumes!!
redchief replied: I'm sure I don't have anything in my truck that will help with that. Sorry, Dee Dee. I feel your pain.
ashtonsmama replied: No clue--sorry. GOOD LUCK Dee Dee!
I suck at sewing!
Kaitlin'smom replied: Want me to come over Saturday and help you?
mom21kid2dogs replied: You have my complete sympathy! When I went O's dress rehersal the whinning was at a maximum about the itchiness of the coustumes. Luckily, O is in acrobatics so the fu fu is at a bare minimum. Hers was fine. I had the same reaction you did, though, about the "alterations" on costumes. Heck, I don't pay $40 for her winter coat let alone a garmet she wears once and it ends up in the dress up box.
Keeping my fingers crossed that it all works out and Ashley has a great recital.
Ashlynn's Mommy replied: I feel for you. There is nothing more that I hate in this world than SEWING. I absolutely dread it.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I am sorry! I was a little peeved when we were told that we could pay for tailoring to the costumes too! I would have been upset if they had come unassembled. This may sound crazy but can you hot glue the sash in place? I have made Tay costumes (lastyears dance class at Christmas and I hotglued almost an entire skirt together ) You couldn't tell and it was the hit of the show Also hand sewing is not as hard as you would think and if you just tack it in place first it will be fine(Remember it is only on ofr 2 minutes tops and on stage. Noboby will see it upclose! As for the itchey part -find some of the shaved chenele at Walmart and just glue a panel in the front and sides-you can even spray glue it in,and the ruffles of the tutu will lay down if you hang it in a steamy bathroom and then fluff it with your hands(if that is the ironing she was referring to) Wish I was there to help! It will be fine! The ithcing would concern me more than anything so I would fix that first...oh and make sure if you do call a seamtress out of the phonebook you ask about cost-they will raise the price on something like this especially if you have never been there before!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I'm sorry Dee Dee, that really stinks! I would be upset if I had to put together something I already paid $40 for too. I'm so clueless about sewing too - you're not a bad mom! I hope you are able to get it all figured out by tomorrow.
MommyToAshley replied: OMG.... do you know how to sew? I would love some help. I am so afraid that I am going to ruin it. I would be forever in debt to you.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Not the best at it but yes I took some classes in HS. I also do wardrobe for the theatre so some alteration is a must. Not a problme, do you have a hot glue gun? or any sewing things?
MommyToAshley replied: That's the ironing she was referring to. I will try that first, sounds easier. Thanks for all your advice.
MommyToAshley replied: I bought some needles and red thread (her costume is red) at the store last night. I also bought a hot glue gun. I have never used either one before.
Thanks everyone... I am starting to calm down a little now. I couldn't sleep last night trying to figure something out.
Kaitlin'smom replied: okay I will come and help you tomorrow, since the guys are going out of town it works out.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Hope all goes well with the costume! You can do it! YOUR A MOM!
I don't sew either...better learn before I have a daughter someday!!
MyLuvBugs replied: Oh Dee Dee! I wish I lived closer to you, and I'd help you out.
holley79 replied: I would be in a bad position also if it were me. I can sew straight lines but that's about it. If I paid 40 for something I would expect it to be wearable. I hope you find someone.
TheOaf66 replied: hey not every mom knows how to sew, my mom never did so don't beat yourself up over it, just try to find a friend or family who does.
