AGHHHHH - I am so mad about this
lisar wrote: They decided to change the school boundaries here. And well of course because we live so far out Lexi has been assigned to a diffrent school than the one she is in. The school they want her to go is "NOT A GOOD ONE". All of our schools are given a grade and she is in an A school now. And the one they want her to go to next school year is a D school. I have applied for a program to where she will go to an accademicly advanced school but they only have 7 openings for her grade. So the chances of me getting her in there are slim. However, I cant go on the fact that she will get in, I am soooooo changing me address to my grandmothers house to keep her where she is in case she dont make it to advanced school.
lisar replied: Can you tell I am upset about it, I cant even spell right in the post.
LOL
TheOaf66 replied: isn't there like a transfer form you can fill out...that is what we had to do with Tanner because his school is outside our district
lisar replied: No they dont allow those here. There has to be a REAL good reason for that and I dont have one.
coasterqueen replied: The real good reason should be going from an A school to a D school. At least that's what I'd say to them.
I fear school boundaries where we are. I know one day it's going to happen and my girls will be stuck going to the city schools, which will NOT happen in my life time. I'll pay the price of private or out of boundary prices before I let my girls go to the city schools.
lisar replied: But thats not considered a good reason here. Our school system is one of the worst in the country. And the school she is in now and a GREAT school. I love it. I think I am just gona change my address to a diffrent one and keep her where she is, unless she makes it to the advanced school.
Mommy2Isabella replied: That can be frustrating. When I was in HS, the kid two doors down when to a diff. school than me. It was silly they way the do it in my opinion ...
Hopefully she can go to the advanced school or you can get your address changed.
DVFlyer replied: If changing the address fixes this... easy enough to do.
The closest school to us is a "3" on a 1-10 scale. Chloe started Kindergarten last year. We tried to get a transfer to a better school but couldn't.
I don't know how they grade the schools, but fwiw, I think Chloe's teachers are great. Maybe a better teacher > than a bad school? i.e. a good school could have bad teachers negating the "good" part of the school?
coasterqueen replied: I'd change the address too, then. Just be careful with that. My parents did that when I was 12. My grandfather had died and we moved out to his house in a different district. We kept our in town address so I could finish out 6th grade at my other school. Someone found out and told the school and I had to be transferred to the new school immediately. It sucked!
GL!
Boo&BugsMom replied: That is a good point. Tanner's school is really good, has a great reputation and all, but there are a few teachers I wouldn't want my child having. I'd almost rather my child go to a mediocre school and have a great teacher, then go to a very reputable school with a horrible teacher. The teacher him/herself will make or break the child's school experience.
Lisa, I hope you can figure it all out. I don't know what I'd do without our school choice option in our district. Probably homeschool.
MommyToAshley replied: What about private school? Are there any good ones in your area? I am not against public school at all, but I wouldn't want Ashley going to the schools in our public school district. We had to make some sacrifices but in the end, it is well-worth it. I am sure they would be willing to work with you on tuition if that is an issue.
lisar replied: That is an issue. I sent Lexi to private school for Pre-K. It cost me $400.00 a month. Not bad right. But for the price of actual Kindergarden was almost a thousand dollars a month. I cant afford it. And now that she is in a higher grade the price goes up. I cant get a scholorship for private school, all the kids with adhd get them here. Seriously. Kids with any kind of learning disability get the private school scholorships before anyone else. I can see why, some do need more one on one attention and all. My best friends kid got one 2 months ago and is now in private school. And it is working out great for her.
I have contacted the Principal at the new school and he is willing to meet with me and talk about my concerns and let me take a tour of the school and all. He told me to bring Lexi with me so that she can see also.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: They are re-drawing lines around here lately too. I hope she gets in to the school you like or that you can keep her in the one she is in!
Cece00 replied: I know its not "right", but if that happened to me, I'd lie about my address too.
