Am I doing this to her???

MyLuvBugs wrote: Probably, but I don't know what exactly I'm doing wrong.... huh.gif

So, last Friday Lex had this MONSTEROUS poop in the morning when we woke up. It was like a body cleanse kinda thing and was all over the place. rolleyes.gif well, then she started getting really really fussy and gassy. Well, the rest of the day and on through Saturday no poops just horrible gas and really fussy. She didn't want to feed for very long, but yet wanted to feed. KWIM? She'd pull at my nipples and route around and you could really tell her tummy wasn't feeling good. So, I kept giving her Mylacon and FINALLY on Saturday night (38 hours later) she poops again. unsure.gif Usually, this kid isn't fussy and poops 4 times a day (at least rolleyes.gif ).

Well, it seemed to make her feel better, but then all day Sunday it was the same thing (fussy, gassy) and she didn't poop again until late Sunday night?? huh.gif NOW(yesterday and today) she poops in the mornings twice (fills the diaper) but it smells HORRIBLE and looks like butterscotch pudding?? unsure.gif Her nursing is getting a lot better over the last 24 hours, and she doesn't really have anymore gas....but it just seems like her system has changed drastically. KWIM?

So, do you think it was just a bug or did I eat something bad maybe? I wasn't feeling very good Saturday thru Monday either now that I think about it.....but mine might be gallbladder issues rolleyes.gif (ugh...don't get me started rolleyes.gif ) Can me catching a bug or having digestive problems affect her like that through the BM? What other things would make her poops change color, texture, smell, and amount as well? unsure.gif

Sorry to be babbling. sleep.gif I'm trying to wrap my brain around this. unsure.gif Lorelei wasn't ever like this really. She was always having constipation issues, so this is all new to me. sleep.gif It just seem strange like I've done something wrong to affect here some how. sad.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: was she going regularly before this all happened? when did she go last before the first real blow out? could it be a bowel obstruction?
does she seem to be over it now?

have you eaten anything you can think of that is gassy or something that could have caused this stool?

MyLuvBugs replied: Oh gosh...

Yes. she was so very very very regular before this 4-5 times a day but not HUGE amounts, just enough. KWIM?

Before the first "blow out" (nice way of putting it BTW laugh.gif) she'd gone about 8 hours prior, so the night before around 11pm or so and it was all just her regular poops.

I'm not sure what a bowel obstruction is or would be like....sounds awful though. sad.gif
She does seem better now, but her poop pattern, smell, color, texture have all change drastically. unsure.gif

As far as eating weird stuff....nothing any different than normal. Last Wednesday and Thursday we had Pork Tenderloins with Broccoli or Green Beans for Dinner....Lunches were normal sandwiches or a bowl of Oatmeal. sad.gif And breakfast is always a bowl of cheerios. (I'm a boring eater).....Over the weekend it wasn't really anything different either. sad.gif No fast food was eaten at all and I ate every meal. sad.gif

ediep replied: well, I didn't nurse, so the other experts will be more help...but I remember when my friend was nursing she said that whenever she ate broccoli, it gave her daughter terrible gas

good luck

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I have no idea about most of it but...gassiness we are a little familiar with. I tried adapting my diet a little but his issues seem to I have heard Mylicon can cause constipation. We have been using Gripe Water when he acts like that and immediately he calms down and will just start looking arround.

btw he also has the butterscotch looking poops most of the time

MyLuvBugs replied:
yeah, but I eat broccolli all the time sad.gif and this wasn't like... "Hey mom I have a little gas from the broccolli you ate last night"... it was more of "OMG! My TUMMY HURTS!!!! You horrible woman, what have you done to me!!!" KWIM? sad.gif She was crying her "pain" cry and then would toot up a storm and then scream her "pain" cry some more. bawling.gif

The guilt I'm feeling sucks b/c I know it has to be me. She's not eating anything else but BM, so it has to be something I did right??? bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif

MyLuvBugs replied:
What's gripe water?? I'd never heard that Mylicon caused constipation?? WOW....maybe that's it. unsure.gif

lesliesmom replied: If I recall correctly, Gripe Water is something you can buy from Canada. I used it with my first baby when she was gassy. Worked wonders. Better than anything I've found in the US. If you can find some online I would definitely recommend it.

kimberley replied: could be teething, a virus, something you ate... not sure. i personally wouldn't be giving her too much mylicon. bf babies can go days without a movement and that is normal. if she seems in pain, you should take her to the ped. a hernia maybe?

making a bicycling motion with her legs and warm baths helps with constipation if that is the problem. avoid the usual gaseous foods in your diet... green veggies, millk, spicy foods. hope she is better soon.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
I can send you some if you want... it's good, and cheap. Smells like Aniseed.

CantWait replied: ITA with what everyone else has said. I'll also add that when I drank Orange Juice, especially more then a glass a day Anthony would get horrible gas, and would have the runniest of poops.

MyLuvBugs replied: thanks everyone. I guess I'm just finding it strange that over night (litterally) her bowel movements would change so drastically. unsure.gif She is getting better although I'm not sad.gif Her gassiness is almost gone, but I'll try to find some of that gripe water. hopefully this was just a tummy bug that we both caught..... unsure.gif

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Just got back. Gripe Water is used to relieve pain from Gas, hiccups, stomach cramps, colic etc. It can have a lot of different stuff depending on which one but Camomile, Anise, fennel, different herbs and such that help with tummy issues. We got the Baby Bliss and found it at Wild Oats. I know walmart sells one too. I heard it works a little better than the baby bliss but has to be refridgerated and the one we got doesn't. I am comtemplating making our own so we can customize it a little more for him depending on what is problems are then...i found a list of what all of the different potential ingredients are and what they are good for.
It definately works better than anything else I have tried and I wish I would have known about it when Katy was a baby...she was horribly screamy colicky.

MyLuvBugs replied: Walmart sells it huh?? Is it in the pharmacy section or baby section?? I'll have to look around for it. Do you think it would help with my tummy. LOL smile.gif

holley79 replied: I know when I ate some thing that didn't agree with Annika she would have "tummy" troubles. With Annika she only had one BM a week when she was EBF.
