Amynicole21 . . . or anyone else - with girls with newly pierced ears

mom21kid2dogs wrote: I have question about the first time you removed the earrings to change them. They told us she could do it after 8 weeks. They certainly seems to be doing fine~less sore and all but she is still pretty protective of them~especially when changing clothes, washing hair, etc. How can you tell if they are really completely healed? Would you wait a little longer than 8 weeks to change them just to be sure? Any tips or advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

I remember when I changed mine for the first time they apparently weren't completely healed. I had one heck of a time getting earrings back in them because I couldn't find the back of the hole. As a result, I remember forcing the post through myself and that ear is now slightly "off" in back. I was hoping her first changing experience would be a little better, especially since I ws 13 and she is 7. ohmy.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: TBH Kaitlin's are still not fully healed and we just had a small infection cause I was not careful in rising her ears fully after a shower. She does have different earrings in now but they are 14k gold and doing well. She has tried a few pairs and right now her ears are still to sensitive for anythign but pure gold or pure silver.

she had them piercedearly september.

coasterqueen replied: Megan's was completely healed, but she still seemed a bit scared and said they hurt (they didn't look red or infected at all) so what I did was put neosporin pain relief gel on her ear lobe before putting the new earrings in and she said it didn't hurt at all.

katiesmom2002 replied: My daughter is 5 and just got her ears pierced the week before christmas, her ears are doing good and no it isnt time for her to change them out yet but i just thought i would write in this post lol she was excited for the earrings.

MommyToAshley replied: I don't have any advice, but wanted to request a pic please. wub.gif

amynicole21 replied: I still had to force the earrings in even a few months after she had them pierced. If you CAN wait, I probably would. It's been 4 months now and we're just getting into changing them regularly.

5littleladies replied: I would definitely wait a little longer at least. Megan had her ears pierced last year and we waited the prescribed amount of time before taking them out and then I took one out, just to see how it was looking and I had a terrible time getting it back in-It hurt Meg pretty bad. Then I waited a few more weeks and again when I took them out I couldn't get them back in. As a result, Meg didn't want them back in at all because it was hurting too much and we have let them heal shut. So wait until you are absolutely positive that they are healed!

BAC'sMom replied: Ansley’s ears have been pierced since she was 6 months old, she will be 8 next month. sad.gif I would keep them in longer if I were you. Continue to turn them occasionally so that they don’t get “stuck”. Also when you replace them be careful what you use I suggest Gold or Nickel–Free earrings. We have tried on occasion to use Silver earrings with Ansley and within days they will get a little red. Also make sure they are not too tight because that will cause redness too.

Edited to add...

If she is in any sports make sure to either take the earrings out or cover with something like tape to protect from being pulled out.

mom21kid2dogs replied: Thanks for all the advice. thumb.gif I think I'll hold her off for a few more weeks if I can. LOVED the suggestion about the pain relief gel. I know Olivia would be like Megan~if it hurts alot, she'll be done with it and we'd have to let them grow shut~UGH!

Dee Dee~do you believe I have yet to take a picture of her new ear do! I'm a pathetic excuse for a scrapbooking mom!!! cool.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
Ashley would be like that too, that's why we are waiting. Actually, she saw a girl crying while getting her ears pierced when we were at Sweet & Sassy, and Ashley said NO WAY is she getting that done. LOL.

As for the pic, you'll have to post one when you take it. I was just looking for an excuse for you to post another pic -- I love pictures of O, they just seem to brighten my day.

MomToJade&Jordan replied: I would wait. Jade got hers done in Nov and got some new earings for Christmas from my Mom. Well we waited the alloted time and we had a little trouble which freaked her out. I haven't messed with the ones she has in now. probably won't for a bit.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Katy had one of hers come out about 2 weeks after she got them pierced. I think I know when it happened and I noticed about 45 minutes later. We were at the mall so went and bought new ear rings and changed them to that right then. I was scared it would hurt her but she had no problem what so ever with putting new earings in. Now she will occasionally have crusties but can go weeks w/o wearing earings with no issue.

they were done about 8 months ago now.

mom21kid2dogs replied: OMGosh Lisa! I SO need to know where you got that "I still live my parents" shirt your son has on in that siggy pic!! I HAVE to get it for one of my nephews. It's too funny!!!! rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

PrairieMom replied:
Target. I almost got one for Ben. laugh.gif I grabbed it, and put it back. Then grabbed it again, and put it back. Darn financial freedom classes. mad.gif rolling_smile.gif

aspenblue1 replied: I waited several months before I removed their earings.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Maddie wants no part of getting her ears pierced. laugh.gif Poor thing is so afraid of pain.

I would prefer she wait anyway. I was 7 when I got mine pierced and had an awful time. They got infected and my earring grew into my ear...my dad had to pull it out the back of my earlobe. bawling.gif It was awful!!!!! I grew them up and waited 2 years before piercing them again. I can't believe I pierced them a second time. tongue.gif

mom21kid2dogs replied:
Actually, Olivia was just like that. I'd been asking her if she wanted them pierced since she was about 4 and she always said "No way". All of a sudden, in November, she just turned around and was on a mission to get it done. My niece gave us a great suggestion, though. She said to get them to pierce both ears at once. Worked great. She has been suprisingly dilligent about the whole thing so far. She remembers to clean and turn them and she's never had a hint of problems. we were told to only purchase hypoallergenic 14K gold earrings for the first year to prevent infection. Hopefully, we'll avoid it !

Tara~thanks about the info on the shirt! I'm going to Target this weekend to see if I can track one down!!
