Angel Food Ministries

lovemy2 wrote: All these posts about the high price of food, etc. prompted me to post about this program our church has called Angel Food Ministries - it is world wide - MANY churches across the US offer the program - and I encourage everyone that is struggling to look into it in their area -

The program offers for $30 a "unit" of food - each month - I am attaching a link to this months menu - the website for some reason is down but if you google Angel Food Ministries and your city and state it may point you in the direction of a church in your area that offers it - it is an amazing program - Olivia and I volunteer for it at times at church and we also use it -

Again - I am a retard when it comes to links so copy and paste - you will be amazed at the food you can get for $30 and there are also other "units" you can purchase as long as you purchase the basic unit....

Check it out....

Edited to add - I guess I am not really retarded - the link does work!!!

Boo&BugsMom replied: This ministry is AWESOME! Sadly, none of our local churches have it, but I am hoping to bring it up to someone so perhaps we can start it. thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied: we have a church around here that does it I'm REALLY considering doing that!!!

redchief replied: Our local food banks have been seeing a whole lot more traffic in the past year. Our church's assessment for upkeep has gone up 200%.

luvmykids replied: We have something very similar, I haven't used it yet but I'm considering it. They have amazing deals.

Crystalina replied: My MIL swears by this. She's been buying their food for a few years now. She talked me into it two months ago and I can't believe the amount of food she brought over for only $30! ohmy.gif So much meat. I didn't really need it when I bought it but she kept harping about it and how you don't have to be "poor" to buy the food so I did it. I would suggest anyone wanting to make $30 be stretched to the max on food to try this. My SIL buys a lot of the extra packages they sell for parties and Bar-B-Q's. smile.gif

luvmykids replied:
I was going to add that....some people think it's not much or not quality, but the share program here has name brands a lot of times, and the meats are great from what I've heard. And they get specials that you can order a la carte, like ground beef at $1.00 a pound ohmy.gif

The only thing is you never know what will be in next months, so if there is something you use a lot of buy extra!

Crystalina replied:
The meat they gave us was really good. The one I got had 3 packages of boneless pork sirloin fillets. I freaked because at first I thought they were cow tongues. rolling_smile.gif

My MIL is always chasing me around with their next menu. happy.gif

lovemy2 replied: Awesome - glad others use it and if you haven't TRY IT - you would be surprised who you see there - they are not all those who are truly poor - and yes the quality is good - there are some things we don't use - like the shelf stable milk puke.gif so I tell them to give it to the next person who can use it or donate it - if someone pays for it then doesn't come and get it they donate it - once in awhile when I can afford it I buy an extra one and just donate it thumb.gif

boyohboyohboy replied: christine what a neat thing! i never heard of this and there are two in our area..i am showing this to my dh tonight
thank you for sharing!

luvmykids replied: Just wanted to add too, if there isn't an Angel site in your area, try this one
Share Food Network, it has NM, CO, TX, OK, SD, WY, KS, MI, AZ, and I think a few others.

lesliesmom replied: I just started doing this in the last few months. I am very impressed with the quality and quantity of food. Although I may have to increase to 2 units just because feeding a family of 5 is a little scant for this. But, even getting 2 units is still a great deal. I picked ours up just this last Saturday. Steaks, pork, stouffers pizza, pie, eggs, milk, cereal, onions, on and on... it is a great ministry and one DH and I are trying to get in our city. The one I went to, although close, was still about 20 minutes away and that's the closest.. There was an older lady in front of me who I guess has been using this for quite some time and drives 45-60 minutes to get hers. I strongly, STRONGLY, recommend this for any family trying to stretch the grocery budget.

ZandersMama replied: i wish there was something like this in my area sad.gif it sounds great. all we have here is the local food bank, and the times I have went there the people working it seemed to go out of their way to make me feel crappy for being there. it really bothers me, the situation i am in I am trying my best to get out of, and these people roll their eyes and talk to you like dirt when you come in. oh well, it keeps my kids fed when necessary but i only go there when absolutely necessary because i dont want my kids seeing their mom being treated like that.
