Another Child Dies Needlessly - in a pool

redchief wrote: Another tragic and needless death occured to a child in Southern NJ Saturday evening.

WILDWOOD — A 4-year-old Philadelphia boy drowned in a pool at a condominium complex Saturday night, even though his family was present at the scene, police said.

This story is repeated all over the country every summer. Note that the child was NOT alone in the pool. Apparently he was simply unobserved. How sad.

If you have or use a pool, go here:

Get with the program! I'm sorry about being preachy, these deaths just make me so mad because they're entirely preventable! growl.gif

C&K*s Mommie replied: how incredibly sad. sad.gif

Thanks Ed for the link. Good reminders that deaths by drowning are preventable with proper measures taken. I have heeded to those reminders since I saw the link a few weeks back, thanks again.

CantWait replied: sad.gif It really is sad, and angering how preventable these tragedy's are.

BAC'sMom replied: So very sad! sad.gif Thanks Ed.

redplaydoh replied: I have such a fear of my kids drowning... I know how easily it is to get distracted watching both a 2 and 3 year old and they never stay together... one runs this way and the other runs the opposite direction.

Do you think it's too early to put them in swim lessons??

These stories are so tragic and I bet the parents did feel like they were observing the kids but it can happen so fast...

redchief replied:
Check with your local Red Cross or local recreation department. Many run programs for toddlers that include parents in teaching the little ones to swim. It's never too early to start teaching your kids how to swim, especially if you have a pool or live very near the water.

moped replied: Very sad...........I couldn't live with myself

ITA Ed.
Ashley and Tyler knew how to swim before they knew how to do math/read/write!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: sad.gif That's so sad! My heart goes out to that family! Poor little boy!

Bee_Kay replied: I also wanted to add something else....

Tylers best friend, Craig (who is also 13), never learned how to swim growing up.
Well, last summer Craig and Tyler spent alot of time out at the beach, hanging out in the shallow waters.......

So, Tyler took the time and taught Craig how to swim last summer wub.gif

redchief replied:
Tyler, your teenager, taught a friend to swim? That is one special young man you have there, Barb.

Bee_Kay replied:

Thank you Ed.
The way Tyler explained it to me.... He (Tyler) felt bad that Craig was left out when all their friends would head out into the deeper water to play.... So, Tyler stayed in the shallows with Craig.
So, Tyler figured he'd try and show him basic swimming (staying afloat) and one thing lead to another and he was able to teach Craig to swim. thumb.gif
