Another Thrush question

PrairieMom wrote: Calling all experts...

What does a Baby yeast infection, (diaper area) look like vs. regular diaper rash?

Bet-cha can't guess why I'm askin... dry.gif growl.gif

coasterqueen replied: There are pics somewhere online, maybe Kellymom has some. Would have to look. But you'd know. If you are asking, she probably has one. sad.gif With my girls the area just looked a LOT more red and little bumps, just didn't look like a normal diaper rash. I used OTC clotrimizole (sp?) and it would clear up in a couple of days.

holley79 replied: Annika's was red with itty bitty little white bumps. The Dr gave me a combo cream.

coasterqueen replied: Ok, this pic is really gross so WARNING!!!!

I don't think my girls rashes looked that bad, but then again this pic is VERY close up. ICK!

Yeast Diaper Rash Picture

PrairieMom replied: huh. i don't know if tyhats what we are dealing with. dry.gif maybe its just not that bad yet?
we just switched brands of diapers too, so who knows. I'll use desi and if that doesn't work I guess I will have my answer. wacko.gif

coasterqueen replied:
IF you can get an OTC yeast cream I'd suggest using it. If it goes away very quickly you know it's a yeast rash.

It very well could be the diapers. When Pampers changed their diapers Megan started breaking out really bad and I thought it was thrush, but it turned out that it was just the diapers. So we switched.

BTW, if you haven't tried them, I highly recommend the Target brand diapers. THey are a lot like Pampers and I used to be a huge Pamper fan. They are also SUPER CHEAP.

PrairieMom replied:
If things don't look better by this evening I will see about some yeast cream. I hate to use it if that isn't what we have going on. dry.gif ugh. if it isn't one thing its another. rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the diaper suggestion. I am sort of a diaper snob, and I love pampers. Target brand has to be cheaper. thumb.gif We just switched from pampers to huggies because I thought the pampers were making her diaper area look a little red. Thats why I'm not sure if she is reacting to diapers, has a diaper rash or what.

coasterqueen replied: Tara -

Believe me I was a diaper snob too. happy.gif I never would use anything other than Pampers. I tried Huggies and Luvs once and never again. I was truly a Pampers girl. Then when they changed their product and Megan kept breaking out someone here mentioned the Target brand being comparable so I decided to try it. I think for a package of 40 diapers it's about $6 so I figured, well if they don't work out it's just $6 lost. I fell in love with them. They aren't as stretchy on the tab area, but I got over that pretty quickly. I absolutely love them and even better I get 2x as many diapers for the same price as I paid for one package of pampers!

holley79 replied:
sad.gif I'm glad Annika's never got that bad.

PrairieMom replied:
ooohhhh, the streatchy tabs are what got me too. unsure.gif I'll still try the Target one next time. This debt diet thing really has me inspired. laugh.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
Lol I think they're like more like Huggies, which is what I use. I used Target brand for awhile and liked them a lot but Andrew started leaking out of them a lot so I went back to Huggies. I'll probably try them again though when he goes up a size because they're so cheap! I can't stand Pampers or Luvs. blush.gif They're too purfumy and give Andrew a rash, and they don't have the elastic band at the top that keeps all the poop in! tongue.gif

coasterqueen replied:
See that's weird because I thought they were a lot like Pampers. laugh.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied:
I guess they kind of are, minus the weird yellow-ish mesh Pampers has in theirs now. tongue.gif They seem like Huggies to me because they don't have a lot of purfume, and because of the texture. But they don't have the giggleastic waistband like Huggies, which is a big bummer.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I know with any that I have seen, putting Desitin or regular diaper rash cream makes it spread more and doesn't heal it.

If it is yeast, all you have to do is buy some woman's yeast infection cream (like Gynolotramin) and apply it on the area until it clears. You can also use Triple Paste if it's not yeast, but wont go away...that stuff is miracle cream!

PrairieMom replied: So far today it is looking about the same> it deffinately hasn't spread. its just all red, not bumpy or rashy looking.

Boo&BugsMom replied:
I would go get some Gynolotrimin (sp?)or something similar just to be safe. Just over the counter stuff. Desitin will make it spread more, and quickly too so just be cautious. Does she cry when she wets her diaper? Sometimes that's a sign because it will sting. If you don't think it's yeast, I would recommend Triple Paste. Tanner had a horrible rash that I thought was yeast once. It wasn't but it wouldn't go away and it was horrible, but I used Triple Paste and it was gone within a couple days!

PrairieMom replied: no. It doesn't seem to be bothering her.

Boo&BugsMom replied: Do they have Triple Paste in other areas around the country? Go buy that stuff! I find it at Walgreen's a lot and local pharmacy's. Way better than Desitin, but a little more pricy.

PrairieMom replied:
They have some stuff called dyprotex that you can only get at walgreens is that the same stuff? its Awesome for diaper rash, I asked DH to pick some up on his way home. He's supposed to ask the pharmasist to point us to some baby yeasty butt cream too. (he is NOT thrilled) laugh.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied:
LOL! I love sending hubby out to get stuff like that. Well, not really, but it's funny to see his face! blink.gif

That may be the same stuff, maybe just a different name in different areas?

Love the new avatar by the way!!! emlaugh.gif

PrairieMom replied:
I don't know. It comes in a square compact type thing with a pink lid and you apply it with a sponge applicator.

I had to laugh at DH too. He got all quiet on the phone and I said "whats wrong" he asks, "can you think of anything MORE embarrising for me to have to ask them about? "
"Yeah, I could have you ask them what to do for huge oozing herpees"

rolling_smile.gif

Then I reminded him its 100 degrees out and the lawn needs mowed tonight.

I wonder if he will come home... rolling_smile.gif

AlexsPajamaMama replied: my son got a yeast infection from having bubble baths...I thought it was a bad diaper rash, and took him to the Dr cuz it wasnt going away no matter what and it hurt him real bad when I cleaned his diaper area...his Dr prescribed an anti-fngal cream....like jock itch cream
