Another decorating question
coasterqueen wrote: Ryan and I saw these really nice black bookcases to go on each side of the tv. He liked that idea better as he despises putting holes in the walls. I will have to say that I think they look really well. He did a good job picking them out. My question would be what color frames would you use to put pictures on the shelves? I have some light oat colored, a few silver, and a bunch of black frames. I tried all of them and set them on the shelves and the light oak didn't look good, obviously. It's a toss between the black and the silver. The silver kind of really stand out, though, maybe too much for me. I dunno. But the black blends in. In a way I like that and in another I'm not sure. What would you do? I can take pics if needed. I just haven't yet, as we haven't gotten positioning down yet on how close to the tv center we want it, and we bought a clock to go above tv, but haven't had time to put it up, and I need to get some other decor to put on the shelves besides the pictures I'm going to put up there.
Any ideas are appreciated as always
bluebear replied: Gold, mahogany, burgundy, a honey color light brown. I'd stay away from silver, fingerprints and dust show up on silver frames.
mom21kid2dogs replied: Stephen is the same way about holes in the wall! I have to hang stuff up when he's not around 'cause I hate all the wailing and cringing! Voting for silver. Love the look of silver on black.
CantWait replied: Pewter, Silver, Black, Cherry.
Our Lil' Family replied: Definitely silver, black would be ok if you want some to blend in.
MommyToAshley replied: I vote silver. If you think the contrast is too stark, you could always use a silver frame and use a dark or black matte to tie it all in.
coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone for your wonderful tips! I will start buying frames this weekend I'm only going to buy a few at a time since I have like 25 to buy. I also want to buy some other things to decorate the shelves with so it will be a slow process, but we definitely love the shelves. Not sure if they go well with the room and decor, but to us they do. Kinda excited about it because it's the first time in a long time I actually like my great room. It did help that I moved the computer desk to the other side of the room across from the piano so now I'm not focused on the computer screen when I'm actually trying to watch a show.
coasterqueen replied: I got a few silver frames last night when I went grocery shopping and they definitely look great on the shelves. I mixed in a few black frames I already had and it's perfect! I'll post pics when I get the whole thing done.
mom21kid2dogs replied: If you have wooden frames you like you can always spray paint them. Spray paint was definitely my friend when I was redoing my scrap room!!!
coasterqueen replied: I do have wooden frames. Can you spray paint them silver and they would look ok?
mom21kid2dogs replied: Oh yeah, they'll look great! It's mind boggling how many finishes now come in a spray can.
I spray painted a couple of wicker shelves a bronze color for my scrap room and they look custom.
Our Lil' Family replied: Yay, can't wait to see!! Now you have me thinking of what I'm going to do about a new entertainment/media system....it's beyond time for upgrading! The one part of my house that isn't done and I hate it!
coasterqueen replied: Well, knowing your decorating sense, it will look great when you figure out what you want.
coasterqueen replied: There is no harm in trying for sure. So I will have to do that I have some sconces that are in gold that I want to redo and I have the spray paint, just too scared to do it. This will give me the push I need. Thanks!
Our Lil' Family replied: Awww, thanks Karen!
