Any labor, delivery stories that are coincidence

CantWait wrote: My DH is in the military and was gone away on training, he's wasn't suppose to be done till sometime near November, therefore missing our son's birth on Oct 5. However he was allowed to come home for a couple days over the long labor day weekend in September. Wouldn't you know it, Robbie was 5 weeks early and born, during that weekend he was home, he didn't miss a thing. All his friend's in the military made a bet that I would have the baby that weekend. Guess they were right, thankfully....Robbie was a healthy 6 lbs 5oz, and there was no need for him to stay in the hospital, so him being early was actually a good thing. emlaugh.gif

MommyToAshley replied: thumb.gif Neat Story! I don't think it was a coincidence...it was meant to be. smile.gif

momofajcl replied: That is a great story! baby.gif

msjennbug replied: Our most recent birth is similar. smile.gif We hadnt nailed down the child care for our four girls for when baby was born. Depending on the time of day, we may have had a sitter, but other than that there was no one.

Months before my mom found a plane ticket on sale and planned to come down for columbus day weekend. She works at a bank and had a three day weekend.

She came down, we went out to eat to celebrate my bday that'd just gone by. The next day we went to have lunch with my grandmother and I was in labor. Baby wasnt due for almost a week and my baby before this one was late. So we didn't expect it to happen just because my mom was here, but it was God provision for our childcare needs AND my mom got to meet her grandson when he was brand spanking new. smile.gif

We need a similar miracle for this baby due in July. Funny, mom's coming to visit July 5-12 smile.gif Would be a good time for baby to get here, huh?

Hillbilly Housewife replied: those are awesome comparedf to mine....my doctor was leaving on vacation to Italy on Friday afternoon, August 30th...and I wasn't due until Sept 3rd... I had been on bedrest, and got *permission* to leave my bed on the 29th,.... I really didn't want the other doc that would have been on call to deliver, so I went on a shopping marathon with DH and my mom, waling all day. I went in labor that night (3am) and got my doctor out of bed for me befor having to head to thwe airport!! ha!

My mom is coming to visit July 7th, should be here by the 11th. Baby is due on the 15th. She said if I don't have it by then she is taking me jogging so that she can see the little guy before she has to go home. LOL jog.gif

I'm in the the same boat msjennbug, I don't have childcare really either. I got an offer from a friend, but she's less then reliable. My mom is suppose to come for a visit around that time so there might be a chance I don't have to leave my son with my "friend". huh.gif

MomToMany replied: thumb.gif Wow! Those are great stories! I don't have any like that, but would like to share Hannah's, since she will be 1 on Monday!

It was a Sunday morning. I was 9 days past my due date. It was just DH & I, since the boys were at their dad's for the weekend. We went & had breakfast at the cafe in town, which MIL owns & cooks for. I had a huge plate of biscuits and sausage gravy;:yum: I was SO hungry! After that, we went & visited some friends for most of the day; DH is a big hunter/fisherman, and he went with his friend to go check beaver traps. I stayed with his friend's mom, and just sat talking about when I was going to have this baby! I thought I felt some contractions, but didn't think much of them since I had to be induced with all my boys. We went for a drive to see DH's friend's sister, who lives about 10 miles away. Then we came back to her house and waited for the guys to get back. Then I thought I felt a gush, but wasn't sure. I didn't say anything because she would've TOTALLY flipped out. So the guys came back, and we went home. I headed straight to the bathroom, DH was going to go set more traps. I told him he might want to wait. "Wait for what?", he said. I told him I think my water broke because I was pretty soaked down there. "Oh, boy! This is it!", he said. So I called the hospital to see what I should do, because I wasn't having any more contractions (and to see which DR. was on call. You don't get to choose which DR. delivers you, you get whose on call). It was one of the OK DR.'s, luckily! The nurse said to come in & they could check to see if my water broke. I had my bag all packed & ready, so we got in DH's truck. Not easy to do since it's a pretty high step to get up in there. He asks me, "So does this mean I get to drive really fast?" I said NO, I don't want an accident! We got there at about 2:00 p.m. and they got me hooked up to the monitor & they did their little test. My water did break, but wasn't having any contractions. I was already dilated to 3 before this started. Then the contractions started! DR. said I could either go home or stay here. I wasn't going to go home! We had to get the boys that night, so my sister went & picked them up. Then everybody showed up at the hospital, which was nice, since no one came when I had the boys. It was going to be a surprise, whether it was a boy or girl, we had no idea! I was having good, strong contractions all on my own. DH was smart & never said a word to me; if he did, I would've ripped his head off! I asked for drugs when I was about 6 cm dilaed, but the stupid nurse couldn't get the IV ready. The DR. checked me about 10 minutes later. I was at 10 cm. I started pushing at 8:20 p.m., and Hannah Rose was born at 8:24 p.m.! The DR. said, "It's a girl!" I kept saying over & over, "What?? A GIRL!!!" I couldn't believe it! I thought I was having another boy for sure! DH was so happy, he was crying! I started bleeding really bad; the DR. was really worried about it. It hurt more than the contractions! They finally gave me some morphine, which I was very grateful for! Dr. got the bleeding under control, and then everything was OK. There was a big party in the hallway, I guess, from the sound of it! Hannah started breastfeeding like a little champ, and is still going strong. She weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz., was 19 1/2 in. long. The boys had wanted another brother, but we told them that we couldn't pick what it was. They were a little disappointed at first, but they're so happy they got a sister!

Just thought I would share Hannah's birth story!

MommyToAshley replied: Thanks Mollie for sharing Hannah's birth story. wub.gif How special! baby.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: what a nice story, but I am a little confused. They were actually going to let you go home after your water broke? I was told thats a no no. My water broke at home and they told me to come in right away, they said the reason is the possiblity of infection to the baby after the water breaks so they want you there. But I guess not every doc and hospital are the same.

MomToMany replied: wavey.gif They told me I could go home until the contractions started..I know, I thought that was kinda strange, too, but that wasn't my usual doctor, either. He's on the weird side, and a general practioner, not an OB. I wasn't going to argue at the time, so I just told him that I'd rather stay at the hospital (I didn't want to risk having a home birth, either, although I have nothing against it, just in case something went wrong, like the heavy bleeding that I had).

I was always told that after 24 hours of rupture, the risk of infection goes up, so that's why I stayed. I started having contractions within an hour of getting to the hospital, anyway. I guess every doctor & hospital are different dunno.gif !

Kaitlin'smom replied: wow that doc sounds a little nuts wacko.gif I am glad you stayed! thumb.gif smart mommy!

msjennbug replied: On the topic of PROM (premature ruputure of membranes, as in before you're in active labor, after 37wks) - no, you dont have to go immediately to the hospital, nor do you have to be induced. Times to be concerned are when it happens prior to 37wks, your GBS+, or have another infection that may have caused the rupture. So, you probably want to be checked out BUT, limiting the internal exams given to you will decrease the risk of infection and allow you to continue the labor process naturally.

90% of moms who have PROM will be in labor without interventions within 24 hours. Only 2-5% will still not have gone into labor after 72hrs. You do need to take extra precautions if you decide to wait it out. Like no sex, some say no tub baths (some studies show no increased risk of infection), monitor your temperature, and some others.

But it's entirely possible to have your bag of waters break and not need to be at the hospital right away, nor induced, nor any of all that.smile.gif

you can learn a TON about this through: http://www.gentlebirth.org/Midwife/prom.html

Insanemomof3 replied: My daughter (7 years old now) was due September 17th. My mom said my due date would be September 16th. My doc was supposed to go on vacation the week of the 18-25, so she told me to go into labor on my due date since that was when she was on call. LOL

My mom called me the morning of the 16th to see how I was. Every 2 minutes I would say OW! and she told me to call the hospital. Sure enough I was in labor! I went in, and Kayla was born at 9:35 am on the 17th!

Not real interesting, but kind of funny. biggrin.gif
