Any way to "coax" this little one out? :)

KatieLeigh79 wrote: Went in yesterday am 37 weeks, measuring 37 weeks gained 2 lbs - and the heart rate is around 150, the Dr. did a little poking and prodding (im beginning to feel like a cow!) And she said the head is down and the baby is really low already so if we wanted to see if we can "coax" them out it would be fine to (she said she has one other woman at 39 weeks who is already a mother of 3 and is normally 3 weeks late, she figures i may even go before her but i dont want to get my hopes up!) - DH refuses to do anything intimate with me (pretty much since the line turned pink!) and the spicy food thing isnt working, i heard walking may do it but boy when the Dr. tells you she thinks its all set its driving me insane - i know i should just let he/she stay where they want as long as possible but we are guessing its already over 8lbs (im not sure why i haven't gained THAT much weight!) and im still paranoid over a 12lb baby - any ideas on how i can see if they are willing to make an apperance soon? smile.gif

MommyToAshley replied: I had to be induced, so not sure I am much help. But, I heard walking helps too!

Mommieto2Girls replied: I was also induced (at 38wks) . But I think hubby is no good unless you start dialating.I've heard alot of people drink castrol oil. But not sure of the effects.Probley best bet is walk, walk, walk. biggrin.gif Good Luck.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Walk walk walk. Eat fresh pineapple. Go get yourself a toy. (lol) The "contractions" from the "actions" can get your real contractions going...

Toys are specially made for when the DH's don't want to touch the pg ladies.... wink.gif thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oh..and castol oil can be bad. It can go to the baby as well, causing the baby to have a bowel movement too, making meconium in the womb... not a good thing. Try to stay away from the castor oil.

supermom replied:
ROFLMAO PIMP!!

You, Zach's Mom - are a HOOT!!!

And I have another ? - what about pineapple - I assume there is something (naturally occuring) that makes contractions come on? I have never heard that one before this board......

And Katie - good luck to you, it won't be long now - walk, walk, walk - stairs (no, don't bounce down them - hehehehe), roads, etc, etc. I always threatened to try a bumpy car or motorcycle ride but my bladder wouldn't take it - giggle

Other than that, all I can offer is hugs, and tell you that your new little one will get here when they dern well want to!! Sending you some very easy, short labor vibes......and lots of well wishes and hugs! Be sure to let us know as soon as you can what is happening and how things are going....

supermom replied:
Maybe if we hug REALLY hard!! roflmao

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
It has something to do with bromelain, which is found in fresh pineapple as opposed to canned pineapple. You can buy the tablets, but they are mucho moolah compared to the price of the fruit....

"Eat unripened papaya (including a few of the seeds), fresh pineapple, and Aspergillus oryzae (a type of fungus) frequently. These foods are good sources of proteolytic enzymes, which are crucial for proper digestion of foods and assimulation of nutrients. Without enzymes, the body cannot be supplied with the energy it needs for its activities. Enzymes can also be taken in supplement form. These help in digestion in the lower stomach and intestinal tract. "

In other words, fresh pineapple acts the same way as castor oil - just not dangerous for meconium.

"It also contains a chemical similar to that in prostaglandin" taken from the site below, which also containe tons of other ways of natural induction

+Zemirah+ replied: DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT

REPEAT

DO NOT do castor oil.

This is just my opinion, and it IS based upon experience. DO NOT DO IT. With my last baby, I was 43 weeks pregnant. About 5-6 days before he was born, I tried the induce using the CO. I took VERY VERY little, perhaps 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. -- much less than the "dosage" most people say to use to induce. It gave me terrible diarrhea, and cleaned me out, for sure, and certainly did cause me plenty of uterine cramps, but it didn't jump start me into labor. I did start contracting more about two days after that, and when my son was born after a beautiful 4 hour or so labor, the doctor noticed a few things: old meconium staining of the placenta (baby was fine) and a couple of other "older" signs I can't recall now that caused him to muse aloud, wondering what on earth would have caused baby so much stress nearly a week ago, but not enough to cause earlier labor, etc. NO WAY was I about to tell himn about the CO! I was just praising the Lord ofr my safe and healthy baby boy. If anyone wants links on CO, I'll be hppy to round some up. JMO but no way will I EVER go that route again. Now you certainly CAN get a labor prep or 5Week formula for the last number of weeks of pregnancy to prepare your body for labor and encourage labor to begin when you are truly ready, (and I used TriLight herbs' Labor Prep formula with that baby and had an AWESOME birth -- very little pain because my uterus was so well-nourished and the herbs did make the contractions highly effective). If you need links or info on the Labor Prep, or 5week types of formulae, lmk smile.gif

Blue and Black Cohosh tinctures can be taken at your point in pregnancy and they will help to more-gently induce. If you are interested, I will round up some links for you on how and what doses and when to take them -- this is often recommended by midwives, and successful over time, without being so drastic like the CO, I understand.

biggrin.gif good thing I'm not opinionated er nuthin, eh?

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Just my honest opinion, but jsut so you know.... blue and black cohosh are also taken early in pregnany to cause a natural miscarriage, used as a means of abortion... so I wouldn't risk it as a means of labor. If it is used to cause miscarriages for an unwanted pregnancy... you never know.

Just looking out for ya!

KatieLeigh79 replied: Hmm.. still racking my brain, ive now downed a large amount of pineapple, about 60 oz's of water, tried the eliptical machine and am about ready to go mall walk *laugh* the more i try to make this happen you watch i will be the one to go to like June 15th or something silly like that! I was looking at the stair case trying to debate what i could do with that to but boy - i may look rather odd if he comes home and im bouncing myself up and down the stairs.. rolling_smile.gif

supermom replied: IMHO - and after 4 full-term pg, they will come when THEY are darn good and ready - lol - so relax (I know, hard to do when you are so uncomfortable), enjoy just relaxing and be patient.......

I know, I know, easier to say than do..........I am sure i'll be in about the same shape in about 12 more weeks - sheesh, that seems like a long time, but I know it'll go fast!

+Zemirah+ replied: BTW -- just for the record, I am with the Superest Mom smile.gif -- my babies come when they are darned well good and ready to, and I won't be hurrying them along anymore after that CO thing (*shudder*).

The cohoshes stimulate uterine contractions which can indeed cause abortion in the earliest stages of pregnancy, though they do not kill the baby (OMgosh... good grief -- I can't believe I am addressing this... and I sound so callous -- please DON'T take any of this the wrong way -- I am just wanting to provide info here unsure.gif )... at any rate, my point is, Blue and Black cohosh are well-known to relatively safely jump-start labor when you use them in tandem AND when you are READY for labor -- and if not ready, they are not terribly likely to do much.

But, personally I am hoping you can just relax and embrace and enjoy the next 3-5 weeks ahead... I know it's hard to wait but -- intervention of any kind always increases the likelihood that you'll end up with more interventions, and then more interventions... KWIM?

+Zemirah+ replied: OH -- PS! This might sound nuts, but I know loads of moms who have had many babes and often heard them say that some of their easiest births were the larger babies, compared with their smaller babes -- so as long as your OB thinks baby is of a size you can handle, you might be pleasantly surprised smile.gif

(just trying to offer some encouragement yk?) wink.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
That's fine!!! I'm not offended!! I was just typing what MY OB told me... I didn't bother looking it up!! blush.gif

It seems like you have a more educated understanding of the way those herbs work... I'm actually glad you cleared up my post, because it made me think that maybe my OB DIDN"T know everything... so I'll take your word for it, and maybe look something up on the 'net before I stick my foot in it again!! lol!!! emlaugh.gif

Thanks for the info!!! thumb.gif

CantWait replied: All I can say is Good Luck!!!!!!!!! thumb.gif

When my labor started finally the thing that sped it up was nothing other then SEX, and boy did it speed it up. I know what you mean by your DH not touching you since you found out you were pregnant, I can count on 1 hand how many times DH and I have fooled around in the last 30 weeks sad.gif .
He usually can't keep his hands off me. wub.gif You can see how we're in this situation rolling_smile.gif

Let us know when it finally happens.

hmmmmm I wonder which one of us will be first to pop supermom, I've only got another 9 and a half weeks left LOL. This might be a good little poll laugh.gif

grouphug.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Good idea for new poll..hehe.

MommyToAshley replied: KatieLeigh79.... how are you doing? Any more contractions yet? Did you go walking?

Hmmm, wouldn't it be neat if you had your baby on Mother's Day!!! smile.gif

KatieLeigh79 replied: *sigh* nope tried walking, even forced poor DH to try the evil "S" word - talk about a deer in headlights look when someone rather swollen and puffy gets into bed in nothing and tries to be "interesting" *rofl* had the spicy food, raspberry tea, walked the block for 2 hours this weekend - helped MIL with her garage sale and moved things, trimmed the yard.. i think this baby is comming on its own terms sad.gif .. *laugh* its okay though that means its probably not ready to make an apperance yet - just goes to show how stubborn this child really already is smile.gif - i was thinking mothers day would be a cool day to deliver to, but it would have to make a rather fast surprise apperance seeing ive heard the first child can take 12+ hours easy.. back to the drawing board!! But Happy Mothers Day to everyone here! biggrin.gif

+Zemirah+ replied:
ROFLOL!!!

Happy Mothers Day KatieLeigh!! Hang in there Sweetie!

supermom replied: OMG, I am EVER glad my DH doesn't have that problem - roflmao!!! But it still didn't help with the last one - so, yep, just hang in there, it'll happen when it happens.........and I am sure that you are thinking that'll be none-too-soon!!

Love ya!! Take care - and just keep your fingers crossed....

MommyToAshley replied: ROFLMBO... you crack me up! hehe Too bad humor doesn't help "coax" the little one out!

jcc64 replied: I have 3 kids, and sex worked for us, 3 for 3. Apparently, there is a substance in the ejaculate that mimics pitocin. I know it's the last thing you want to think about, but trust me, it works. Tell your honey he "owes" you one.
Good luck and best wishes for a fast and easy labor,
Jeanne

+Zemirah+ replied: Actually -- this is so interesting, but you guys might be wanting to smack me after I write this post LOL -- there is prostaglandin in the semen. Prostaglandin is the substance responsible for the softening of your muscles and ligaments during pregnancy, ykwim? Anyway -- the prostaglandin gel OB's often apply to "ripen" a woman's cervix before labor, and hope that it will get things going... same basic concept so ya might as well let your hubby do it for a fraction of the "cost" ( tongue.gif ) and enjoy it while yer at it LOL! blush.gif Besides, prostaglandin gel USED to be (and I don't know if perhaps there has been a change in the formula, but this was the case a few years ago and before...) derived from... PIG semen EW! huh.gif

Um, just some tidbits of info to make y'all cringe this morning, I guess. LOL tongue.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oh GROSS!!!!! rofl! rolling_smile.gif

MommyToAshley replied: Gross! I agree, even 9 months PG, sex sounds like a better option. LOL

KatieLeigh79 replied: *shiver* pigs.. though if your hubby can't look at you without laughing when your naked im pretty sure its going to do its own thing and come when it feels good and ready. sad.gif
