Anyone?

Mommy2BAK wrote: my friend (who has no children, but thinks she knows everything) said that you can find out the sex of the baby at 10 weeks now. She said it has to do with heart rate etc, but soes anyone know about this? Whats the earliest to find out?

Bamamom replied: So far they are telling me 20ish weeks. But I'm having an ultrasound Wednesday and am hoping its a boy with a really big...thing...so we can know the sex then!!!!!

Mommy2BAK replied: haha! 20 is all i've ever heard too

Boo&BugsMom replied:
That is an old wives tale, about the heartrate. biggrin.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: I'm not sure the earliest time, but I am sure it would be when the gender organs start to grow. I'll Google it and see what happens.

~Roo'sMama~ replied: I have heard that a higher heart rate means it's a girl and a lower one means it's a boy (I forget what the specific heart rates are) but it's not a sure way of knowing, just a guess. wink.gif As far as I know the only way to find out for sure is an ultrasound. unsure.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: according to a tech I know, she said the earilest time is about 15-16 weeks. but the best is between 18-20 weeks. We counted down the last time my sister was PG cause it was not planed and she wanted to know ASAP

Mommy2BAK replied: I'm familiar with the olds wives tale but she was trying to tell me that this is something new.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I could ask Lee (she is the tech here at the Womens Support Center) if this is something new or if your friend is just crazy laugh.gif

Boo&BugsMom replied: Here ya go...

Whether you believe it or not, every woman will hear some magical way to determine the sex of her child. Scientifically, the only ways to find out whether your baby will be a girl or a boy is to have an ultrasound performed sometime after the 20th week of pregnancy or, if you're having an amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling done, you can ask about your baby's sex.

grandma replied:
I love it when 'know it alls' say really dumb things!

Boo&BugsMom replied:
No it's not new, it's a pretty old method. wink.gif

Cece00 replied: You cant find out before about 14 weeks. Before that, both male and female sex organs look the SAME....literally, they are identical before 12-13 weeks.

And heartrate can NOT predict the gender.

A&A'smommy replied: well technically the sex parts aren't even developed yet... and the heartrate thingy is a old wives tale rolleyes.gif

about 14 weeks is the earliest I have ever heard of anyone finding out, and I found out at 16weeks with alyssa and 17 with this one

Danalana replied: I have heard of some finding out at 15 weeks...especially with boys...but that's usually a little too early. I found out at 16 weeks, and the tech told me it's more reliable the closer you are to 18 weeks.
