Anyone been to Curves (gym)?

MommyToAshley wrote: My sister called and wanted me to join Curves with her. I would never join a gym or fitness center on my own because I would probably never go... I'd find a million other things that had higher priority. But, if I had someone that depended on me to go as well, then I'd probably go.

So, does anyone belong to Curves or have you in the past? What do you think of it and was it beneficial?

ediep replied: my mom goes to curves. She likes it. Its definately better than no exercise, so I'd say its beneficial, but your fitness level is probabaly too high for curves. My mom sometimes does the 30 minute routine 2 or 3 times if she has the time because its too easy for her. I have never been there, but if your sister goes, it would be a fun thing to do together.

mom2tripp replied: It's a pretty cool place I went with my mom and aunt once, BUT if you are looking for cardio and a good sweat forget about it!! It's kind of arranged in a circle and it's just resistance machines so....I would say if you are just looking to get out and have a little fun go for it, otherwise it's not for everyone biggrin.gif

mommy_loves_chase replied: i have never been there i have a membership to fitness Usa but i heard it is nice

3_call_me_mama replied: I used ot go. I had a year membership that my mom got me as a gift for my birthday. I was pregnant with Kathleen at the time so it was limitied as to what I could do. I went back after she was born and found it really hard to find time to go. They were closed durnig lunch (from 11-3 on mwf and 1-3 t&th) so I had to either go form 6-7 at night or 6-7 in the am. (whichdidn't work casue DH couldn't get them ready in the am and Kat wanted to nurse when she got up and i was gone. And at night I would always get out of work after 6 so i didn't have time before they closed. It is fun and does work if you keep at it. You really need to allot an hour (depsite they say 30 minutes) cause it's 30 minute workout, and 15 minute cooldown/stretch plus weighin and such. so it really needs an hour. plus travle. But if it's close and you have the time I'd say go for it:)

coasterqueen replied: Can someone give me a bit more info on this? I was thinking about joining since it's right down the way from my job and with the girls I only have time on my lunch hour. I'm only thinking about doing it for their 2 month trial, though.

So are there treadmills? Or what is the workout exactly? What are the resistance machines? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I just need something to jump start my weight loss. Once I start losing some weight I won't be in such depressed mode and can do what I need to do from there on w/o going to a gym.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I have not been but it seems kinda limited, and for me it did not have the added benifits the gym I joined did but look at there web site it should give you more info

Curves

I am also going on my lunch hour so I not only have one close to home but work as well, good luck

coasterqueen replied: Thanks Di. That doesn't look like what I want. sad.gif We have a YMCA right near our office too but the problem is my boss and all his "buddies" work out there, especially at lunch time and I really don't want to work out around him or them. Too embarassing and not sure my boss would appreciate it either. sad.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
that makes it tough, it was not what I wanted either thankfully I had other choises, do you have any others around even some that have free childcare, like mind, while I have only used it once its nice to know its there. I am just happy I have started going back, I so love it and need it

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Mine has free childcare, too. It is called Lady of America. I really like it. I understand you aren't wanting to join though. That makes it hard to find a place. You are really in a bad position. If I worked all day the last thing I would want to do is go to a gym when I get off work. tongue.gif And the morning would be unquestionable. There is no way you could make that.

I hope you find something that works for you, Karen. I want to see you feeling good about yourself again. hug.gif

luvbug00 replied: Lady of America is good I used to work at one. They had tredmills and stuff. Free sitting and Best of all woman only!! Whoo hoo thumb.gif

A&A'smommy replied: I haven't been yet but I do plan on going at least I hope so not sure when though!

coasterqueen replied: Thanks everyone. I don't want to put my kids in childcare while I'm there, it's just not an option for me. I'm away from them all day and they come before I do so I just need to find something else. I want a treadmill again really bad but can't find a good cheap one. The one I had before was cheap and crappy. tongue.gif I guess I just need to get the taebo tapes out again and bear through it. Also I need to start WW again, but I just can't seem to get into that. It was so much easier to do when Kylie was a baby and not eating too many solids. rolleyes.gif I can't just eat WW dinners anymore or else she'll wonder why. tongue.gif

Aprilnewbee replied: Ok, ladies, I realize this may be a few days late for some of you, but I thought I would try to clear things up for you. I happen to work at Curves, and I think it is a wonderful place. The resistance machines are based on hydrolics. Basically you push them as hard and fast as you feel like working out that day. If you want a light workout then only push them lightly. Same goes for a heavy workout. It has been equated to water aerobics.
And it really does take most women 30 minutes from walking in the door, to walking out, including streaching.
You only weigh and measure once a month and it is totally optional for you.
We recommend 3 times a week to see results that you might be looking for.
You can call any Curves in your area and ask for a free tour, we all do this, they'll explain the program furthur, answer any questions you may have, and explain the pricing. Most members pay 29 plus tax (check your tax rate).
I understand some Curves are closed during lunch and that is a bummer, we are open and have quite a few women come during lunch.
It defantly works, and it works better with a friend.
Hope this helps you, thumb.gif
if you have any more questions you can find me here, or call your local Curves.

Beth
