Anyone eat beets and have weird things happen - Definitely TMI
jcc64 wrote: Hey guys- This is way more info than you probably need at this hour. I ate fresh roasted beets the other night, which were really delicious, but when I just went to the bathroom this morning (#2), the bowl was completely red. I flipped out, and was about to reach for the phone to call the dr, when my friend told me that it happens to her if she eats beets. Man, that freaked me out. Are there any regular beet eaters out there (something tells me they are few and far between), and is this common? How long is this gonna go on for?
Kaitlin'smom replied: nope never eaten beets but I know other things that can change the color, laways weird to see colored poop
booey2 replied: I have eaten them before and this didn't happen but I think you have to eat quite of few of them to have it happen. I believe this is normal.
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: LOL! I'm sorry to laugh Jeanne, but I made a fresh beet salad for Xmas dinner and was going to post about the after effects as well! So yes, I'm very familiar with this. And I must tell you, it lasts for several days...your urinne will be pink as well, or at least mine was. I love fresh beets, but they are highly constipating for me. Eat a lot of fiber and drink water to flush it out...but no need to call the doc! They're very good for you as you probably already know!
mom21kid2dogs replied: Never had that colorectal fecal test done yet, have you Jeanne? Beets are one of the things you can't eat 2 weeks before you test because they will discolor your bowel movements. The color goes away when the beets clear your system.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Absolutely common.

We eat beets all the time...they're cheap, versatile, and yummy.... I pee pink more often than I care to share.
Actually - a funny - I guess our sitter here didn't know about that... cuz she called me in a panic one day to tell me the kids were bleeding when they'd go to the bathroom... it took us a good 10 minutes of "oh my god!" -ing to finally figure out that they weren't peeing blood.... it was pink, not red... turned the water a light purple almost... so I clued in it was because of the beets the night before.
She wants me to tell her when we have beets now.
PrairieMom replied: I don't eat beets, but I have heard about the phenomon on Oprah !
Kaitlin'smom replied: see now with Kaits obsession with pink she would LOVE that
jcc64 replied: Thanks for the input, guys! Live and learn.....
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Oh yeah....beets dye EVERYTHING red!
kimberley replied: i dont eat beets but have heard that happens.
gr33n3y3z replied: been there and done that lol scared the crap out of me too I guess we just ate to many beets lol
