Anyone ever had a elevated - Triple Screen Test?
punkeemunkee'smom wrote: I just got off the phone with my doctor and my blood work came back slightly positive in the down syndrome part of the test. I have an appointment on Monday for a level 2 anotomy scan (ultrasound) with a perinatologist. I have read a TON online about how unreliable this test actually is and that if you are just a few days off on dates that the whole result is basically void. Well my dates are off by my LMP and the sono by a week and they are going by my LMP to date everything on these tests....Just want to know if anyone else has had to deal with this. Right now I am betting that it is dates and I am looking at this like WOO HOO an extra sono! Please say a prayer that I keep calm.
mom21kid2dogs replied: I refused all prenatal screenings except routine ultrasounds and GTT. I've never known anyone with a "iffy" AFP screen who delivered a child with problems. Almost everyone I've ever known who has had one done gets an "iffy" result (either high or low markers). Not to worry.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: I declined the test too or so I thought....it seems that you can deny the QUAD screen but the triple screen is one they do by law SO STUPID since the triple is the one with the highest margin of FALSE positive results. Thank you for the boost of confidence
BAC'sMom replied: Me! It happens a lot these days and in every case I've heard there is never a child with down syndrome. If you want to talk you have my number.
luvmykids replied: I didn't have the triple screen, but like Jimmie and Cheryl said, everyone I know who had it done got scary results and had totally healthy babies. I'm glad you get an extra sono for your worry!
mummy2girls replied: Hi Abbie,
Yes I had the AFP with Jordan and Jenna. With Jordan it came back pos for possible spina bifada. i had an ultrasound and everything is fine and he was fine. With Jenna it happened again with a pos for possible risk for spina bifada. I had an ultrasound and amnio with her and it came back fine and she is fine. Its not by law. Youd ont have to take that test. You can decline it with the doctor. I did this time around. i went for my first app and told him that i will not take the test. being no matter what it wont change my descion in keeping it so why go through all that stress. So no worries im sure the baby is fine:)

Maddie&EthansMom replied: No worries, hun. It happens more times than not.
MommyToAshley replied: Abby, , try not to panic. I did a ton of research with our first pregnancy and know more than I care to admit about the pregnancy screenings. First of all, there really isn't a false positive, it's all based on a percentage which takes a ton of factors into account including your age and your lmp date and due date. If your dates are off in the slightest, it can give you an increase in the odds for your age, but that doesn't mean it is a positive that something is wrong. I wish that the labs would quit calling them a positive result because it makes a lot of people worry for no reason. Ashley's triple screen came out with a slight elevated risk and she is fine. If you want to talk, please give me a call or PM me.
I am sure everything is just fine. However, I will keep you in my prayers anyways.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: Thank ya'll! Dee Dee I think it probably is the dates as my sono and my LMP dates are off. They were with Taylor also but I did not do the test. It does irritate me that with SO MANY false positive readings they do it at all. I did decline the quad screen with my doctor...I even signed a paper about it so when he called today I was very confused. He said that this test is a required test and when it comes back like this he has to send you to a Perinatologist. I have been feeling this baby move for weeks and I KNOW that everything is OK. Like I said I am just going to keep saying WOO HOO an extra sono
Shelly~ How did your first appointment go?
gr33n3y3z replied: That was me also if its not 100% then I didnt get the test But I know everything will be fine
austins mom replied: I had it done and mine came back bad also. I went through the ammiocentisis(not sure of spelling). Thank god everything came back fine with that. Now I have a happy pretty much healthy 9 yr old. He just has asthma issues every once in a while. (like now)...
I hope everything is ok. Please let me know if I can answer any questions.
CantWait replied: My doctor cautioned against so I refused it as well. YAY for another untrasound, as I'm sure everything will be just fine.
