Anyone familiar with Quick Books?

luvmykids wrote: Our network is down and I'm wanting to know if I continue to use it here, and they continue to use it in our other office, is there a way to merge the files? Or do we have to manually reenter data from one to the other when the network is up again and we're back to one master file? I have sooooo much to do but am putting it off because I don't want to have to re-do it all anyway, of course we can't just maintain two sets of books so I hate the thought of them or me having to basically toss whatever we've done in the last few days.

MommyToAshley replied: I use quickbooks but only have to use it on one computer. However, if you are both saving to the same file then yes you are better to wait until the server is back up. If you are saving to the same file and file name, then you would overwrite one another. I haven't used Quick Books on a server to know if you can merge files or not.... sorry.

amymom replied:
Ditto! Sorry I am not much help either. I have never done it on a server.

My3LilMonkeys replied: We use QB online so I'm not much help either....but I would think from my experiences with other databases that have a single master file that you should wait until the network is back up.

redchief replied: Sorry, I use MYOB. I know that the data can NOT be merged with MYOB, but that's the best I can tell you.

luvmykids replied:
How do you like MYOB? I've thought about switching.

Thanks everyone else, I had a feeling dry.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: Okay if it is on the server.. you both have to update at the same time. I am afraid that what you are saving is going to be lost to them. unless you do a back up and send it to them. I have used Qb on a server and if one side was down it was all down.

Which QB do you have.. if you have Enterprise then you should be up to update to each other.. but you may have to call the help line to do it.

siblingtooolivia replied: You can do a back up and add it to the server but to be honest, the easiest and safest way would be to just wait............

coasterqueen replied: Back up the data on quick books Online back-up service then you can access it from anywhere. Although I think you are going to have the issues mentioned. Say if you back it up at the office, then open it at home you will have to back up what you did at home and update it at the office, kwim? I do this a lot because I do the books sometimes at home, but it's only one person using it at a time.

luvmykids replied:
I thought I could make that work temporarily, I was having the office send me everything so they didn't need to use it but unfortunately that was only a fantasy laugh.gif

I'll just have to let it stack up until the computer guy comes. It will stink trying to catch up but at least I have more free time until then emlaugh.gif

redchief replied:
Sorry, Mon, I missed your question. I've been using MYOB since the early 1990's. I've always found it to be more than adequate. What I like most about it is that the all of the business data resides in a single file. That makes it much easier to archive and move around than others. We're licensed for 3 workstations and networking is seamless. I have our entire plumbing inventory loaded. From what I can see it has nearly all of the features of Quickbooks at less cost. The only thing that concerns me a little, though I haven't had a problem yet, is that the company was purchased by an Australian financial software company three years ago. MYOB also features a Quickbooks conversion tool that will convert your Quickbook data into MYOB data so you don't have to redo everything. If you have any specific questions I'll be more than happy to answer.

luvmykids replied:
I was pretty suprised to find out our accountant actually prefers MYOB too so I ordered a demo. Thanks for the info!
