Anyone hear about no gas on the 19th?
alice&arik wrote: It has been going around that if nobody buys gas on the 19th, that the gas companies will be forced to lower the price. I don't want to go into detail, but I didn't know if anyone else heard that. I know it is impossible for no one to buy gas, but a major cut would help. I hardly ever fill up so it won't bother me.
paradisemommy replied: wow..i didn't hear that but i'm gonna go look it up on the web now to see if i can find anything that talks about it!!
paradisemommy replied: found it...

coasterqueen replied: well I guess I'll be sure to buy gas on the 18th so I don't have to on the 19th. LOL. Wouldn't it be nice to see prices down. It won't happen though.
Kirstenmumof3 replied: Here's something that was proposed in Canada, sorry it's a bit long. I got this letter by email.
I hear we are going to hit close to a $1.42 a Litre by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth, offered this good idea:
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the don't buy gas on a certain day campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join with us!
By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $.80 a litre is super cheap. Me too! It is currently .78 to .89 depending on what day it is, for regular unleaded gas in Montreal, Qc. We all know that we're being screwed by the oil companies.
Does everyone remember how they drove up the prices way past a dollar and got the gas prices to where they wanted them, claiming there was a shortage of oil. Well, there isn't any shortage now, and the oil is more abundant than it was 35 years ago when the price of a litre of gas was 29 cents!!! Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre of gas is CHEAP at $0.78-$0.85, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves.
How? Since we all rely on our cars, we cant just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Heres the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), PETRO CANADA, SHELL. If they are not sellingany gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of PETRO CANADA and SHELL buyers. Its really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to at least thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) ... and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people... Well, lets face it, you just aren't a Mathematician. But I am. so trust me on this one.) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $0.64 OR LESS RANGE
AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK!!!!!!!
PLEASE take a few minutes and pass this on to everyone you know!! If you can't e-mail it to at least ten people, please print out a bunch of copies and hand it out to your family and friends!!

maestra replied: Our local news did a story on this kind of thing once before and they said that one day boycotts don't help, since people stock up the day before or buy they day after, so they still get the same amount of money.

MomToMany replied: I haven't heard about that. I have to buy gas today anyway.
jem0622 replied: It's a load of bunk. Because you'll buy today or on the 20th and they'll still be in business. We'd have to boycott for a good week or more for it to have an impact. It makes no sense and makes innocent people spam their friends and family.
I hate the prices as much as the next guy. But this latest thing (and it has come around many times) is not logical.
JMHO.
Boys r us replied: The thing Kirsten posted makes sense! if enough people boycott the big companies, then they will be forced to lower their prices and the rest will follow in their footsteps..however...it's just something that won't ever happen b/c there aren't enough people in this world who are willing to "put themselves out" by having to cross the street to get gas at all or long enough to help!
alice&arik replied: I never realized that everyone would just buy gas on the day before or the day after. But I hardly buy gas anyway, once a week lately, sometimes a week and a half. But I guess most people buy gas a couple times a week. I just brought up the topic to hear opinions, I never thought it would work.
TLCDad replied: The answer is for our goverments to stop kissing up to Big Oil and give more tax breaks and other inncentives to the development and production of low gas or gasless cars.
A&A'smommy replied: i heard about that! I heard the reason (I can't remember who told me this) for the prices going up is because of not having enough security over seas I don't know if that is true or not though.
CantWait replied: We already get our gas from the smaller companies. We never use Shell or Petro Canada because they're always so expensive.
Boys r us replied: The thing that irritates me is THIS..we are not an oil deficient country! We have oil in Alaska, we have oil off the gulf Coast..but we have too many enviromentalists crying foul when the topic of refining that oil comes up..I mean..Hey..I want to save the "spotted Owl" as much as the next guy, but to be real honest..not if it means I have to pay twice as much for my gas!
Kaitlin'smom replied: well I guess we could all take ques from Daryl Hannah and get desal engine cars and them run the on old lard....yep this is what she told Ryan on air that any deal engine car can be run this way, hay is cleaner and free! just have to go to a local fast food joint and get there old used oil...........hummm kinda interesting huh? guess the draw back it then craving the fatty greesy foods since your car will then smell like it....
