Anyone here know anything about - Factor V Leiden?

Hillbilly Housewife wrote: I have it. I've always had it. It's not *that* big a deal.

Apparently, the fact that I need to move around every now and then to prevent blood pooling in my limbs is something that made my boyfriend think i was so uninterested in watching tv or movies with him that he stopped asking me to watch it with him, it annoys him that i have to get up and walk aronud every half hour or so...he really thought I was bored to tears!

i finally told him today that there was a medical reason why i needed to do that, and he feels SOOO bad now he's sucking up to me big time.

I think it's kind of hilarious.

moped replied: I have never heard of this.....but hey he is now sucking up.....

bluebear replied: I've never heard of this! What do you do when you're sleeping?

coasterqueen replied: Never heard of it? Do your joints ache because of it? Is that why you have to move around a lot? I have that problem in my arms and my tailbone.

MyBlueEyedBabies replied: Dh has it as does both of his parents and his grandfather.

Grandfather has had a lot of problems with strokes because of it and it caused MIL about a dozen miscarriages but no problems at all for DH or FIL.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Not unless I hit them. rolling_smile.gif

I had more problems in the past - mainly due to birth control and smoking.. i had a couple transient ischemic attacks, and I had problems in one of my legs "paresthetica meralgia", which is mainly due to compression of a nerve in the groin area.. which was worse for me because of the thrombosis possibilities..

I don't really have any problems now, but my limbs get cold and i have that loss of feeling fairly quickly, so I move around a lot to avoid that... I didn't have any problems with pregnancy. I was taking aspirin to thin out my blood a little, and there was possibility of having to take heparin while I was pregnant, but everything turned out ok, i was just carefully watched for clots.

MommyToAshley replied: I've never heard of it, sounds scary but glad you are able to manage it. It's kind of funny that your boyfriend thought you were bored and is now making it up to you... let him continue to suck up to you as you would want to make sure he is able to alleviate all of his guilt. laugh.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Oh indeed, I totally am.

I even threw in a "it helps when my limbs are rubbed" (it truly does.. circulation thing.. lol) so he's all over that, telling me he'll rub my feet and legs even more when we watch tv.

Whhhheeeeee! heh heh

coasterqueen replied:
laugh.gif Take it as long as you can, girl thumb.gif

redchief replied: Thank heavens you didn't need to take heparin - that stuff can be nasty. I never heard of your condition. Something else for me to research I suppose. wink.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
It's more of a genetic mutation than a disorder... yeah, that's right, I said it.

I'm a Mutant.

redchief replied:
Well we already KNEW that! laugh.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
That hurt my heart. A little. sad.gif

Calimama replied:
Do you get that tingly feeling? Like when your arm falls asleep? I couldn't handle that!! That sounds really uncomfortable. You have a good attitude about it! thumb.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Yeah, tingly. That's what I meant when i said that loss of feeling.. i just didn't remember the word tingly. blush.gif

Calimama replied:
Oh man that would be the worst part for me!! I'm such a baby when that happens to me. tongue.gif
