Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Sorry guys... I dont wanna be insensitive...

bunnies can be pets here too... but usually only lops or dwarfs.

Bunnies run wild here... they're a bit of a nuisance, really. Much like squirrels. I hear those are pretty tasty too. tongue.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied: never tried it, and like most I think of it as a pet.

Jackie012007 replied: bawling.gif bawling.gif bawling.gif yeah we have a pet bunny too.

A friend of mine's family raised rabbits for meat and sent it to the swanky restaurants in NYC. They kept them in outdoor hutches and fed them and then when they got to a certain weight, would have them butchered.

lisar replied: What would you like to know? We have them running like WILD in our yard. The kids love it. But dh shoots them and skins them and the meat is in the freezer. I dont raise them or anything but there are TONS around. And I just know they are gona get into my garden so he is happy they will come to him.

lisar replied:
DH loves them to but we cant eat them in the summer. Only the winter here.

Crystalina replied: Nope, DH goes out and shoots ours wild. The ones we raise are our pets! emlaugh.gif emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif tongue.gif

My3LilMonkeys replied:
Very tender, kind of gamey - I think it's really good, but I grew up on wild game and I've always liked gamey meats.

Hillbilly Housewife replied:
Yep... really lean chicken. yummy.gif

TANNER'S MOM replied: I love rabbit actually. Fried or in a stew. We usually hunt wild rabbit here. But I do have friends who raise them. They just raise them in a hutch and when they get to about 4lbs eat them. Much bigger and the meat gets tough.

We actually have a company here called PEL FREEZE and they have rabbit farms much like chicken farms. They have growers that sell to them. Come in and do the kill and processing and sell the meat to restruants etc.

Its a very clean meat since they only eat vegatables, grass etc. Lean and tender.

TANNER'S MOM replied: Dh loves squirel. I am not a fan. The reason I am not a fan is gross.. it's b/c they look disgustingly like rats when they are skinned, so I can't go there. The boys go squirel hunting and I make them take it to there Grandma's and she cooks its, since I don't believe in killing something unless you or some one will eat it.

Dh also loves turkey fries.. I should've known all this before I married him!

TANNER'S MOM replied: Oh I have never ate a rabbit I raised. I have ate chickens I have raised, hogs and cattle. But not a rabbit. They are too cute to eat when they are hand raised..lol But I have ate them wild.

Cece00 replied: I'd like to get some every now & then but I could never skin them myself. If I knew where I could get them, all skinned & cut up already so I could stew them or whatever...

No qualms about eating them though. My parents raise cattle that may as well be pets, but we eat those too tongue.gif
