Anyone own a GPS?
kidsarecrazy wrote: Hey, I am going to Nashville tonight and have been playing with my friend's GPS system that she's letting me borrow...really cool! I can see why these things are so useful...
Does anyone else have one? Do you use it a lot?
MM'sMama replied: We do but I let DH use it I am very technology stupid lol . But all of our cars have the navigation things and I can use those (well sorta I know how to press the HOME button that will tell me how to get home from where ever)
kidsarecrazy replied: Yeah, the home button is such a nice feature...I never thought about getting a GPS in the dash like a lot of people do because of the expense, but these in car navigation systems aren't too bad, like $300-500. And if you travel a lot, you probably make the money back very quickly by not being lost...The thing I love about my friend's that I am borrowing is that the directions are given by YODA! He says things like "Turn Right you Must!" It's hysterical! Can't wait to try it out this weekend
MM'sMama replied: LMBO That is way too funn but that is so cool I hope Dh doesn't run into one or we'll have one too .
mckayleesmom replied: dh has one.....There is a game you can play with them too...You join certain websites and they give you a bunch of directions to follow and then you report back what you find...kind of like scavenger hunts....My husband is a dork...he has never went on one yet, but he plans to.
kit_kats_mom replied: my DH has GPS on his blackberry. We've named her "Debbie" and she gives us directions all over the place. K loves Debbie and always repeats what she says.
GPS aka Debbie "Prepare to turn right to exit 36" Katherine: "Mom! Dad! Debbie said Prepare to turn right to exit 36!"
My favorite is when we take a turn other than what she was expecting. She gets all exasperated and dings then says "preparing new route". With the attitude in that voice she may as well add "you jerk".
mckayleesmom replied: thats hillarious when your gps gets snippy with you.
A&A'smommy replied: we have to one you hook up to your computer and another one that dh gave to his father. We use the for the computer whenever we go on trips
A&A'smommy replied: LOLOL that is halarious!!!
mammag replied: Chris was telling me about this. We are thinking of getting one just for that reason. I think the kids would really get a kick out of that!
Boys r us replied: We have a built in one in the Tahoe. It's very handy, but sometimes it gets annoying souting out of the directions. "pleas slow acceleration, your exit is approaching"
kidsarecrazy replied: Back from my trip to Country Music Land... I am amazed that so many of you have GPS systems, I really feel behind the times!! Especially when you talk about GeoCatching and those games that you can play, it is fun to figure out where in the world you are.
We drove all over Nashville with our TomTom 300, voiced by Yoda and he was really helpful! We kept trying to figure out where Vanderbilt was and it was so easy to turn on the machine and find a point of interest and have it directed us from that very place...turns out we were way off using our own instincts! Another thing I really liked was when we were turning in the rental car and had to fill up the tank again, the TomTom pointed out where the nearest gas station was so we could have the arrow on F as soon as we pulled into the Hertz rental place.
Definitely very cool and useful...I'm glad I decided to bring it along!
