Anyone seen any good movies? - for renting
Farelle wrote: I have been picking the worst movies through my Netflix....I guess I am so out of the loop I don't even know what to rent anymore Any suggestions?
Crystalina replied: My suggestion would be not to rent 'Norbit' with Eddie Murphy.
Twelve Volt Man replied: Definitely get "The Dukes of Hazard," starring Jessica Simpson. The movie, itself, is terrible, but Jessica pulls off a great performance as the "Daisy Duke." I'd also recommend "Employee of the Month," starring Jessica Simpson. While I haven't seen it yet, I can imagine her acting prowess shines. She is such a skilled actress. And she's rather hot. These are just my suggestions.
PrairieMom replied: NOT Marie Antoinette with kirsten dunst, what ever you do, it is by far one of the worst movies i have seen in a long time, and i LOVE period pieces, and kirsten. I could barely get through it.
also. NOT the prestige with Christian Bale. the whole thing was a little and I LOVE to look at Christian.
luvmykids replied: I've heard The Lakehouse is good, rented it tonight but haven't watched it yet. Alpha Dog was good, and there was one with Leonardo DiCaprio that we just watched that was good but I can't think of the name. I'll have to come back.
eta: The Pursuit of Happyness with Will Smith was really great.
~Roo'sMama~ replied: We just got Stranger than Fiction from redbox a week ago. I liked it a lot.
luvmykids replied: I forgot that one, I liked it too!
punkeemunkee'smom replied:
You are joking right? She is FROM Texas and her southern accent in both those movies was AWFUL!!!!!
If you haven't seen it, TROY is an excellent movie. You,Me and Dupree had it's funny moments but wasn't stellar entertainment-it was good for a friday night with DH tho
luvmykids replied: If you like "fluffy" comedy types you might like "The Devil Wears Prada", I loved the book and the movie was cute. I think Ocean's 13 is out, I haven't seen it yet but heard it's alright. And I just saw a preview for "We are Marshall", it's older (like 2006) but looked really good.
Jackie012007 replied: we just watched Bridge to Terabithia, it was really good. Ghost Rider was okay, Alpha Dog was okay but kind of disturbing, and Pan's Labyrinth was really good but its in Spanish and has subtitles.
stella6979 replied: I heard Alpha Dog was really good, but I agree about the Pursuit of Happyness. It's a great movie, but after reading about the guy's real life story, it wasn't as much of a struggle as they make it out to be. The movie is still really good though. If you like tearjerkers.
coasterqueen replied: This was one movie I found very strange! I don't know why, but I didn't like it.
Whoever suggested Employee of the Month - it was actually a cute little movie. Makes me think a lot differently when I go into a Sams or Costco now.
DansMom replied: Well, one woman's trash is another woman's treasure. Not knowing what kind of movies you like, I'll just throw out what has pleased me recently:
Shattered Glass (fictional version of a true story about a guy who wrote fake articles for a prestigious publication);
The Station Agent (the main character is a dwarf, in a serious role---makes you think about your own stereotypes of people);
Bend it like Beckham (came out a few years ago---great story about cultural adaptation and realizing your dreams).
grapfruit replied: I agree. I saw the Lakehouse and cried. (no surprise ) Also cried at P. of Happiness. I've been told Deja Vu w/Denzel Washington is great. I like Ghostrider w/Nic Cage, but I don't know if that's out yet.
Here's the first few movies on my Netflix list:
Deja Vu Bones Season 1: disc 5 Bones Season 1: disc 6 Without a Paddle (been told this is really funny) Bones Season 1: disc 7
Do you get tv shows at all? That's my favorite way to watch them!
my2girls replied: Teeny booper movies ( I like those):
Just my Luck (lindsay lohan): Cute , I liked it. Accepted: Laughed my butt off! John Tucker Must Die: I really liked it
Just plain funny:
School for Scoundrels : LOVED IT!! Beerfest: Sleazy, nasty but the funniest movie I have EVER seen!! Men will love this!!
Feel good movies:
The greatest game ever played: about golf (1930's I believe) and it was great! Catch and Release; was good made me cry a few times.
A little weird :
The Convenant: (about male witches), very teen movie but I loved it. Guys are cute. The Prestige: I really loved it , but I like magic and plot twists. The Illusionist: again about magic , very good ( I thought). A Scanner Darkly: all I can say is it is a acid trip. But very thought provoking! Children of Men : my dh couldn't follow it but I could and I hope the future doesn't turn out this way.
Action:
Casino Royale: I'm a big James Bond fan and I was not disappointed by this one at all!! A History of Violence: My dh loved it and I thought it was pretty good.
Docucomedy:
Thank You for Smoking: I loved it ,so did dh.
moped replied: I rented Dreamgirls and Beacause I said so on the weekend - they were good!

Also Premonition will be out July 17th that is a movie that will make you cry
luvbug00 replied:

I LOVED the The Prestige
children of men (and we are definitely doomed if that one comes true)
lord of war (grafic violance)
HATED BORAT! couldn't sit threw the whole thing
I cant wait for 300 to come out I am soooo buying that one!
A&A'smommy replied: I actually like Marie Antoinette
PrairieMom replied: the MOVIE?! with Kristen Dunst?! ugh. And I was really looking forward to it too. I am famous for liking bad movies, and even I couldn't stand this one. I don't think there are words to describe who bad it was.
I guess to each his own right?
Also the Prestige left me going I think the problem was that it wasn't what I was expecting, and that kind of movie really isn't my thing. I LOVE LOVE Christian Bale tho. did I mention I love him?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Mmm, Christian Bale. DH STILL doesn't believe me that it's him in Little Women, even though I proved it to him. Yum a num num.
I liked the Illusionist too. And I'm not a big fan of E. Norton...
Last night I watched you me and Dupree again, on tv, and the first 30 minutes of Brokeback Mountain. It was bittersweet... made me teary eyed, in the first 30 minutes. Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhal...well they kissed... and more...and it was kinda hot. Ok TMI.
PrairieMom replied: Kirsten Dunst is in there too. Thats one of the reasons why that is one of my #1 favorite movies of all time. And don't forget Newsies. Thats when I first fell in love!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Actually I can't stand miss Dunst. I actually call her Kirsten the C*** (rhymes with Dunst.)
moped replied: You dirty girl Rocky
A&A'smommy replied: ROFL
I love Kirsten Dunst but omg thats awful....
LOL Tara I like weird movies...although I was in a really bad mood the day I watched that movie and that may have been why it worked out for me (that and I watched part of it and then two hours later I watched the rest of it )
Crystalina replied: I think Marie Antoinette would have been a good period peice had they not tried adding a rock-n-roll vibe to it. Yes, she was not typical for the part she had to do but at the same time watching a story about her and hearing more modern music throughout the film ruined it for me.
And a definate YES to The Lakehouse!
A&A'smommy replied: hehe thats very true... but like I said for some odd reason I liked
BTW I love your new siggy
luvmykids replied: OMG Rocky, what did she do to you?!
Kentuckychick replied: Well, the only movie I've seen in months was last night and it was "Rear Window" the old Alfred Hitchcock movie at our old downtown theatre's summer classics. It was wonderful though
Other than that I want to see "Mr. Brooks" with Dane Cook and Kevin Costner and I've been watching Season 1 & 2 of "The Office"
Farelle replied: Holy cow!! Thanks for all the sugeestions! I'll have to write them all down. The last movie we saw was Babel and I HATED it, it was so boring!! A friend told me that she loved it though....I have been meaning to ask her WHY? I always forget about the TV series too....Bones would be good, or 24, since I always have to watch them twice to figure out what is going on. Someone mentioned School of Scoundrels?? I thought it looked hilarious but my DH said it looked dumb....I'm going to get it, what does he know!!
My3LilMonkeys replied: I didn't care for Brokeback Mountain....when they were actually *on* the mountain it wasn't bad, but the other 2/3 of the movie were pretty boring in my opinion.
I also don't recommend Lords of War....I LOVE Nicholas Cage, but didn't care for it at all.
The only good movies I've seen lately are favorites that I rewatched, so I'll recommend Monster in Law, Blues Brothers 2000 and Boat Trip as somewhat older movies that are incredibly funny! (though Blues Brothers 2000 is not funny to everyone apparently....my DH doesn't get the humor in it at all)
Brias3 replied: Lately, I've liked:
The Queen Charlotte's Web- very cute for the kids Casino Royale- one of the best Bonds yet, I think! The Holiday
There's also a ton of good ones in theaters right now, so I'm excited for them to hit the stands! We never make it to everything we want to see.
HuskerMom replied: I liked Brokeback Mountain. It was so sad but a good story. I tried to get Dh to watch it with me but he refused. Which is fine with me, I'd be kinda worried if he actually wanted to see it!
I loved Borat! I thought it was hilarious.
Madagascar was kinda cute. I loved the penguins.
Flags of our Fathers was pretty good.
Sin City was good too, but I kinda have an old man crush on Bruce Willis.
If you're in a weird horror movie mood watch House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects. I like them cuz they're not scary but weird.
And you can't go wrong with a classic like The Shining. (my favorite movie of all time.)
