Are germs good for children's health?

BAC'sMom wrote: Here is an article I read today…. thought I would share. So what do you think?

luvmykids replied: I happen to agree. I don't let them eat food off the floor and I do (most of the time) wipe down the shopping cart handle but other than that .... in our experience at least, they haven't been any sicker than any other kids we know. After Colt ate 3 kinds of poop in one day :puke:and survived I figured raw meat and eggs were about all I had to really worry about!

Why is it that you always make me choke on whatever I am drinking. POOP!

I just wanted to shake things up, it was too quiet in here and I thought you all needed a good read.

ashtonsmama replied: Hmmmm...I don't really know what to think! I'm not a very uptight person, I don't know if I'll use the shopping cart cover dealy with Ashton...haven't so far because he's still in his carseat, but who knows? It's definitely something to think about!
Thanks for sharing!

Yup, cat, horse, dog. It's our version of Goldilocks, one was too small, one was too big, the other was juuuuust right. emlaugh.gif

I was "off duty" when that happened, btw. cool.gif

Got cha! That sounds like a NEW post to me.....What is the worst thing your child has ever ate? YUMMY.

I needed that laugh today....I still have to go to baseball practice! Thanks girl!

kimberley replied: i have always said this! we sterilize their environments then wonder why they are allergic to everything growing up rolleyes.gif sorry, jmo

EvesMom replied: I also agree with this. Kids that play around in the dirt tend to be healthier than ones that play in the house.
Monica, thanks for posting the poop thing! emlaugh.gif I'm so stressed, and that definately brightened my day! biggrin.gif

coasterqueen replied:
ITA! This is one area I'm not a nut about. happy.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: I always said Kids have to eat a little dirt before they get married wink.gif

ilovemybaby replied: I think germs are good. Not all (I wouldn't let Abby play with a child with Bronchitis). But that's the only way they are going to build their immune system. I have not once wiped down any of Abbys toys with disinfectant or wiped the shopping cart handle or used a cover on it.
And Abby has never been sick. And she is 22 months old. She has had a tiny cold that only lasted two or three days where she had no fever nothing. Just a bit of a runny nose. And that is the extent of it.

redchief replied: You mean there's actually dirt out there? In the real world? Good LORD put me in a bubble!!!

Heheh... What Lisa said was something my mother always used to say... "Dirt? Oh heck, they'll eat a peck of dirt before they're married!" She said her mom used to say that too and her mom was an Irish immigrant, so she knew and respected good old fashioned dirt. It's about time science discovered what our moms knew all along! smile.gif
