Are people really THAT organized?
mammag wrote: I recently joined this Yahoo group that just sends you daily assignments to create a control panel for your home. I've been trying to get organized and get my house in order and such. Well some of the assignments just shock me. Yesterday it was to do an inventory of all your books. You are supposed to make a list of every book you own and organize it into categories. WHY? I can't even imagine how long that would take and I can't figure out the purpose of it. If I go to buy a book I can pretty much read the back and figure out whether I've read it or not. They wanted you to list all the kids books as well....
Now today it said to do an inventory of all your families close..... HUH? Can you imagine? Kristen - pink shirt with ruffled sleaves, pink long sleeve T with K on it....it would take forever! And again, what is the purpose. I know I need to buy something when they are unable to find something to wear.
Is anyone this organized? This just seems over the top to me.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: I am pretty organized....but not THAT organized!
Our Lil' Family replied: Yeah, that is kinda over the top!
C&K*s Mommie replied: not me.... no way would I do take it that extent. But to each his own.
Is it Flylady that you joined? I get daily digest from them, but I delete them before I read it. I do not take the time to read all of the things.
mammag replied: No, though I do get that also. I should be really organized already.
This is just called CreativeControlPanel Daily.
JP&KJMOM replied: Wow that is a little over the top. Sometimes I wish I could be that organized but who has that much time? Not me anyway!
lisar replied: I am an okay organized person. But not like that. List the clothes thats crazy to me. I would need like 500 sheets of paper just for Lexi.
KingMom replied: That's nuts. We are fairly organized but that is just way over the top!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: I like to think I'm organized...
I have about 60 something Disney movies... so I have a list of them. Mostly for insurance purposes, but I still have the dang list. I also have a list for our dvds, since we have about 300 movies. Some burned, some bought - the list separates the two. Again, for insurance purposes. I mean - I'm not going to claim burned movies, right?
I have a list of the food I have in the house. Pantry, stored in the basement, whatever. I hate buying somehting I thought I needed, then finding it in the back of the cupboard. So I have a list of what I have, how many cans of it, etc etc... so I can just check it offf when I'm getting low, so I k now that when I take my list with me grocery shopping, I can just uy what's checked off.
I do have a list of my kids' clothes, too funny that it was mentionned! It's set up like:
Pants Corduroy Black Blue Jeans 2 pairs Dress pants Black Tan Grey Black with stripe
Shirts Dress shirts White for grey suit White for black suit Button shirts Blue
etc etc etc
And I have the sizes on them. It makes things easier, once it doesn't fit, to sdeparate and tag for Ebay. And, I know what I need to replacew when I go clothes shopping.
Nerd, huh?
I even ahve a list of toys. How pathetic is that? The toys that the kids don't play with are categorized in rubbermaid containers, by age appropriateness.
Boy, am I a loser.
Suure makes things easy around here though... and I'd like to be more organized. I don't have much time to look for stuff with the kids..., so having lists makes things easier to find, when you know in which room, which bin etc... now if only my dh would put things away whewre they went, I'd have it made!
kit_kats_mom replied: I think it's in my genes or something. While I don't have that many books anymore, all of the adult ones are organized in a database & all of the kids books are in boxes by season. Currently we have the daddy books, some poetry, outside/naturey stuff & butterfly books. My mom hasan actual library in their hoome and she's done the same thing.
As for the clothes, I have mine listed in a database which I'm working on setting up with a feature that will let me pull up say, a shirt, & it will give me a list of bottoms and accessories that go with it. I set that up mainly because we have tiny closets and my clothes are all over. This way I don't forget about the tan dress pants which are in storage under the bed. I wouldn't bother with the kids stuff (okay, maaaybe the dressier stuff) since it's ruined or outgrown quicker than I could enter them.
Those sound like my kind of people. gotta go check that out!
C&K*s Mommie replied: That makes sense to have a list of where things are at, Rocky.
Our bins have the general name of the items inside (like photos, memories, misc, electronics)
mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: I am organized, but that is over the top IMO! When I store baby clothes, I do label all the bins, but I don't make a list of each item. And books?? Who cares!! I figure if I haven't picked it up in a year or so, it's trash anyway, so why keep a list??
TheOaf66 replied: i agree there is organized and then there is just plain neurotic, if you can do all that stuff than you have way to much time on your hands and need to get a hobby.
luvmykids replied: Around here that would be a comedy sketch! I'm doing great to find the lid to a tupperware container!
ashtonsmama replied: WHOA.
Waaaaaaay overboard, to me. JMO.
Kaitlin'smom replied: sounds great for insurance reasons but a photo or video works just as well. I dont have time for that kind of orginazation. I just need to get rid of some stuff.
holley79 replied: Organized? What is that?? If they are that organized then more power to them. The only type of inventory we do is around hurricane season but that's photos and vid.
luvmykids replied: Try flylady.com..... you still get emailed daily projects but way more manageable for us poor slobs trying to convert to organization!
My3LilMonkeys replied: I was that organized before I had kids - every book I owned (500+ at the time) in alphabetical order by author and a list of what books I still needed by my fav authors.....list of clothes I had by size/season, etc.
DH has a list of every video game/DVD we own (like Rocky, more for insurance purposes than anything).
About the most organized I get now is I have a list by the washer of items that need washed special (gentle cycle or whatever).
A&A'smommy replied: lol that seems like something I would do.. actually I'm planning on doing that with my movies
