Are there any moms using rubber pants with cloth d - a question?
JenSmith wrote: Are there any moms using rubber pants with cloth diapers anymore? We used them growing up they worked great What are your views on the subject , curious Jen
Tamatha replied: I'm considering using some cloth diapers called FuzziBunz, but we haven't switched to them yet due to the expense. I'm trying to convince hubby that they will be better for Trey and less expensive in the long run, but he's just not buying it yet... literally and figuratively!
Here's a link with more info on them... FuzziBunz
Seems there is a whole new generation of cloth diapers, and the rubber pants just aren't necessary anymore!
MomToMany replied: Nope, don't use rubber pants anymore. I have all kinds of cloth diapers, including the Fuzzi Bunz, which I use at night. My favorites are my unbleached Indian prefolds. They are SOOOO soft & fluffy!
Cloth is so much better for babies & the environment. If people realized just how easy it is to do, then more would (hopefully) make the switch!
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Mollie;
thought you`d be pleased to know that I bought some cloth diapers... I`ll be using them at home only though.... too inconvenient for going out!
MomToMany replied: That is awesome Rocky !
mom2tripp replied: Not to start a debate at all but what are the benefits to the child?
MomToMany replied: There are so many chemicals in a disposable diaper. I wouldn't want my child's most sensitive parts covered in them for about 3 years. They can cause cancer, reproductive problems later in life, asthma-like symptoms, and skin reactions.

Cloth (especially unbleached or organic cotton diapers) don't have those chemicals in them. Plus, cotton is softer next to baby's skin. Would you wear paper underwear?
Hillbilly Housewife replied: ROFL!!!!!!!
I`ve been trying to find the site you told me about ages ago with 4$/diapers if you buy 20 diapers....
I haven`t found anything I`d like to get - Right now I have about 6 fitted diapers, size small, and I have about 5 or 6 prefolds.
I`d like to get all in ones - but I don`t want to get too many at once, in case I don`t like them, and I don`t want to pay tons for shipping for a few diapers, know what I mean?
What`s a good website to buy them from?
mom2tripp replied: I wonder why you never really hear of disposable diapers linked to any of that in the news or anywhere????? Makes you wonder how true that stuff really is!
MomToMany replied: OK, I think these were the ones?? They are even in Canada for you! Shipping will be a lot less then. There's tons of stuff there! If you need help with anything, let me know!
MomToMany replied: Well, that would cut into all of their profits! Nothing worse than getting bad publicity! The disposable diaper companies have tons of money to keep things hush-hush while children suffer.
mom2tripp replied: I don't doubt the benefits of cloth diapers BUT doesn't it take up an extremely consuming amount of time and effort AND how many of us wore disposable diapers and have never ever had any effects like you have mentioned??
mckayleesmom replied: Ok.....do you not use chemicals to wash the diapers in? Those have probably been linked to causing just as much problems. Doesn't everything cause things these days? I think that the media would have picked up on it by now if its so harmful. I don't know about anyone else, but the diapers I buy are cloth like anyways. They aren't so paper like anymore.
mom2tripp replied: mine too
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Thanks Mollie!
I`m still debating whether I`m going to buy some more, or if I`m going to try to make some....
I read that I can use things like old t-shirts and receiving blankets to make the diapers.
I could go to the dollar store and buy packs of 3 receiving blankets for 2$.... and I could use them as flat diapers, and fold them, right? Would that work?
mckayleesmom replied: You can guy big bags of cloth diapers from walmart for cheap too.....I bought them to use as burp cloths
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Really?
That would be great.... I`ve bnever seen them though - where would I find them in Walmart? In the baby section I assume?
MomToMany replied: Yep, receiving blankets make wonderful diapers. They are easy to wash and dry super fast!
And, NO, I don't use chemicals when I wash my diapers. I'm assuming you are talking about bleach?? I use Tea Tree oil and baking soda, and vinegar in the rinse. NO bleach or detergent.
And even if your disposables are "cloth-like" ( , LOVE that term ), the chemicals that make them super-absorbant are still there. Ever wonder what those litle gel beads are??
MomToMany replied: NO, DON'T buy the GERBERS!! They aren't absorbant enough! They have polyester batting in the middle that won't absorb anything! They are fine for burp cloths though .
mckayleesmom replied: Well...Im sure if they were dangerous they would have pulled them off the market by now. Saying that the diaper companies have money and that is why they haven't been pulled doesn't justify it for me. Do they not pull dangerous baby stuff off the market everyday? Why would diapers be different? You might not use chemicals to wash your babies diapers...but how do you know that tea tree oil and vinigar in ten years won't be the leading cause of cancer? You don't. You mentioned before that you dye your babies diapers...thats awsome....but how do you know the dye you are using isn't harmful. I see nothing wrong with cloth diapering if you have the time and patience to do it...thats not my argument here, but saying that the disposable diapers are dangerous for our babies with nothing proven to back it up is insulting to me. My babies are in disposable diapers and I love them. Its all a matter of personal choice. As for the beads...they are covered by cloth....if those beads are on your childs bottoms when you change them....then you should change them more often.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: This really isnt`the point of the post, there is no need to be insulted, nor to insult.
It`s like the smoking debate or the abortion debate - you either do it, or you don`t.... whether it`s harmful or not, it`s a CHOICE.
Let`s all stay civil.
MomToMany replied: OK, there is PLENTY of proof out there saying how bad disposables are! I've listed 2 sites already. Here's MORE:

Most people haven't even TRIED cloth diapers, which I find very sad.
My2Beauties replied: Most of these sites are cloth diapering sites - of course they are going to say how wonderful they are! Mollie I haven't tried cloth diapers but I am a darn good mommy and to say that it's sad that I haven't offends me too. I was going to keep my mouth shut and bite my lip because I am a mod and this is a soresubject for me, but I have to agree with Bri on this one, just because we don't use them doesn't make us awful people, I was always in disposable diapers and I've never had any problems. Where is the scientific proof that disposable diapers cause these problems! I think it's wonderful what you do, but you have the time to do it, I don't! So please please don't call me "sad!" I find that a very harsh comment!
mckayleesmom replied: Ok...all those sites you put up are cloth diapering type sites.....that isn't fact to me. That is them saying that the fda and health department are ignoring the facts. I just find that hard to believe. When I see something from the fda or health department...then I will cloth diaper. Again....I think its great that people cloth diaper, but I don't think its right to say how bad disposables are on a forum where the majority use disposable diapers. I think there are probably alot of negatives to cloth and disposable and probably hidden dangers to both, but again, its a personal choice.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Same goes, ok?
Proof is what you make of it - again, same as smoking - lots of 'proof' that it`s bad for you....yet people still continue to do it.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: This is getting out of hand.
There really is no need to come and jump down others`throats.
Everyone has an opinion - we`re all adults, we should be able to respect each other`s opinions without trying to pick at every negative (to oneself) aspect.
I'm closing this topic, because it`s a sore spot to a lot of people, and it seems that emotions are running a little high today.
