Are they just not US citizens??

But a few of the choices were:
Amish F4029 Mennonite
My question is: Are any of these, just not US citizens, or what is a possiblity that they would not have a social security #?? Can you tell I am not a know it all with other cultures.
jcc64 replied: I can't say for sure, except that maybe they don't participate in our federal programs- i.e.- social security, medicare, etc???? Idk, except that the religions mentioned operate as completely separate societies- not sure if they even pay taxes??? Anyone from Ohio or Illinois or Pennsylvania would probably know more.
C&K*s Mommie replied: Thanks jeanne, that may explain it. I doubt that they pay taxes, too. That does make sense though, they are seperate societies on the same continent as us, it is all becoming clearer now. THANKS.
Freckled Momma replied: I had no idea about that either, Nicole..
Jeanne's explanation sounds good to me too
jem0622 replied: Is that a stumper or what?! I never knew that! My aunt has amish friends/neighbors. I can ask her.
luvmykids replied: I don't know, but what you all said sounds good to me!
Edited to add: WTG getting that out of your hair already!
C&K*s Mommie replied: We are not out of the woods, yet. Chris had a income from bonuses, (called a 1099??) we are not sure how that works, in the 1099 section they never asked for the actual figures, so we have to take it to HRBlock or Jackson Hewitt to have them figure it out. We are stumped!
mom21kid2dogs replied: The Amish don't pay taxes so I would guess they have no need for a SS#. I didn't realize the Mennonites also had a religious exemption~we've worked with some Mennonite foster/adopt families in our area and they are quite "modern" in comparison to the Amish (they drive, work outside jobs, etc).
My3LilMonkeys replied: Absolutly right about the Amish. Because of their religion/way of life they are not required to pay taxes and they don't work "outside" jobs so they would have no need for an SSN. I can't help you on the Mennonite though and I don't know what the F4029 is.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Ewwwww! 1099. My favorite part of bonuses or 'gifts'.
punkeemunkee'smom replied: 1099's *YUCK* I do not want to be the bearer of un-glad tidings but those are for income that was NOT taxed when recieved but will be now...depending on your tax bracket it is usually around 15% of what you recieved. So not fun! Go to a good tax prep place they can help you find ALL your possible deductions and hopefully you will have enough paid in on your W2 to make up for it and won't have to pay in!
MommyToAshley replied: Hmmm, interesting. I never really thought about it... I learn something new every day.
kimberley replied: just what i was thinking i love this place!
C&K*s Mommie replied: TY once again for the info ladies. Everyone always come through with answers I never knew.
yay!!! 1099's....this is the first year we are reporting them. What a joke! I thought it was good news to have them as income. Little did I know. Now we know what exactly you mean by that! The fun will begin when we get the bottom line on how much we will be owing this yr.
