Are you prepared?

holley79 wrote: Whether it be a natural disaster or a burglary to your residence, are you prepared?

Do you have pictures of your belongings?

Do you have a list of serial numbers for things that have serial numbers?

Do you have their values?

lovemy2 replied: I know my kids serial #s - does that count emlaugh.gif rolling_smile.gif

This is an interesting post though - I will be anxious to see how many do - I have often told my DH we should video the things in our house because invariably you forget what you really have when something like that happens.........

my2monkeyboys replied: We're not at all prepared as far as lists of specific things. I've been thinking a lot about it lately, though. We have homeowners ins, of course, but I couldn't tell them exactly what we have - we have a LOT of stuff, both good and junk!

DVFlyer replied: When the fires were here in San Diego, I went around the house with a video camera and narrated what each thing was.

holley79 replied: BUT if something is stolen from your house, will you be able to give Law Enforcement the information to be able to positively ID your belongings? If you don't have a serial number we can't find your stolen chain saw if it gets pawned, we can't 100% say it's yours unless you have some kind of unusual markings on it.

We have serial numbers of everything in our home, we have pictures and vid of our belongings. The vid, pictures and serial numbers are kept in a safe deposit box, we have copies at my mom's house and copies in a fire box. Does that seem extreme, I use to think so till people started breaking into houses in my neighborhood recently. blush.gif

gr33n3y3z replied: No not ready for that blush.gif I guess I should take pics of things and the Serial number of things

Calimama replied: Honestly.. no.

Crystalina replied: No but if they take it they can have the payments as well. emlaugh.gif

That was what I was thinking by saying I have the serial numbers of my kids - they are about the only thing we own outright anyway laugh.gif

HuskerMom replied: No we're not really unfortunately.

holley79 replied:
No this is why we have insurance. emlaugh.gif Because we know a crook is a crook and you will still be stuck paying for it. rolling_smile.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: No not at all. We are renting and really only have a handful of our belongings in the rental, so if something happened here, we wouldn't lose much. We have home owners insurance on our house in CO, and all of our belongings are there, photos included. So that would hurt to see those things perish, but again, it's mostly material items that can be replaced. My only real concern is that my family is safe.

Boys r us replied: No, we're not prepared! I mean we have files on about everything we've bought with a receipt and so forth. So I guess in a way we are, we are both really anal about keeping records. But we don't have pictures or serial numbers if they aren't already on the paper work in our files.

holley79 replied:
Most paperwork that comes with tools, electronics and stuff like that doesn't have the actual serial number on it just the model number. We took an entire weekend after we started having a rash of burglaries in the area and wrote down serial numbers and pictured everything. DH wasn't very happy with me at the time. rolleyes.gif rolling_smile.gif
