Are you spendy or thrifty?
mckayleesmom wrote: I admit that when I was younger I was really spendy and would buy lots of crap I didn't need. I also had a huge underwear fetish and bought tons of pretty underwear...I couldn't stop. Then I married dh and realized he was really spendy too and the stupid stuff he bought...I changed pretty quickly. I am soooo cheap now. Whenever I see something I like...I rate it in a way. If I can make it myself...I don't buy it...And if its expensive I think....NOW HOW MANY PAIRS OF PRETTY UNDERWEAR COULD YOU GET IF YOU DIDN"T BUY THAT?
mckayleesmom replied: by the way...I went from a girl that would hide stuff she bought in her trunk of her car so nobody would make comments about it....to the girl that is lucky if she has enough clothes to last a week....not because I can't have them...but because Im soooo cheap now. Everytime I go to the mall or store to buy something for myself...I end up in that dang baby department and buy everything for the kids...
gr33n3y3z replied: I'm 50/50
kimberley replied: i am definitely cheap! DH makes up for that tho
TANNER'S MOM replied: I am what my friends and family call a "thrift store diva"! I am serious about it! I don't play! I can't dress my kids in the latest fashions unless someone else has tried them on first!! lol
ammommy replied: I'm both, and I admit that my logic is just wrong. If something is at a discount store, say Target, I have a hard time paying full price. So that shirt for 24.99...I'll wait until it's on sale. However, and this is what's just messed up, if I see a shirt by a designer that I know is good quality, I have no problem paying $98 for it. Wacko, I know, but I'm warped from many years in retail
mammag replied: Well, I like to shop the clearance aisles and won't over pay for things....the problem is I do it a lot so I spend a lot on thrifty items!
mckayleesmom replied: I always go into Peir One Imports and I have never bought anything. I just look around and look at prices because alot of the stuff in there I could make......like tablecloth and placemat wise.
JessC replied: I use to be spendy, like 2 years ago and changed my plan of shopping. Now I get everything for really cheap. I am a major bargin shopper.
I will not buy it unless A. I need it. B. I have somewhere to store it!
Love pier one too! The only thing I bought there was 4 wine glasses but they were like $2 each cause it was on clearance. But other than that, I just look too!
~Roo'sMama~ replied: I tend to spend too much, when we have the money. But I always feel too guilty about buying myself clothes or *fun stuff* so I don't ever go shopping and I never have enough to wear. I always seem to be spending more than I should at target... on stuff like toilet paper and ziplock bags and shampoo. I guess maybe I'm not overspending really it just seems like it cuz everything is so dang expensive!
Bottom line: if we had no money issues, I would be at the mall all day every day shopping to my hearts content! But we do so I pacify myself with spending money on necessities.
MyBlueEyedBabies replied: I am like Sara, I LOVE to shop but end up buying a lot of the necessities (or what I can pretend are necessities) to give me that fix...
mom21kid2dogs replied: LOL!!! I used to be famous for buying things, hiding them for a couple of weeks then, when my husband would ask if it was new I could say (honestly, in my mind) "No, honey. I've had it for a while!!" He once told my friends at a party that he knew I did this and that if I was looking for a perfect hinding place I should use our stove since it was never used for anything else!!
I used to have more clothes than I could wear in a year but I've always been very thrifty in terms of what I pay. Nothing makes me happier than getting a $100 Jones New York outfit with tags at the Volunteers of America for $3.98!! I've shifted my obsessions to clothing Olivia! It's like having a cute little doll to dress every day.
iluvmysweetiepies replied: 50/50 here too I also have shifted my spending to dressing my FIVE girls LOL.
loveydad replied: well I can be both. I don't buy any baby clothes new,too pricy for me. In fact I usually won't spend more than 3 bucks for a sleeper and 4 bucks for an outfit. Then I always realzie "it's 3 bucks for an outfit. Come on!" LOL
chloe&tysmommy replied: I'm always shopping for a good bargain and they seem to always find me so that's usually where my money goes the fastest I do find that I buy the kids stuff ALL the time and rarely buy for myself....if I do need new clothes though I tend to buy what I like (within price range) b/c I'm rather picky when it comes to that so if I see something I like and it looks good on me then I just get it
Boys r us replied: You know, I just realized that we don't have a smilie with a paper bag over it's head hiding in shame!
I plead the fifth! But I will say I have a REALLY hard time spending money on myself. I can set out to go buy me a new outfit and decide I would rather buy a new outfit for the kids!
atlantamomof2 replied: I am very thrifty. The only exception is for the things that need to be good quality; such as furniture, shoes, electronics, etc. For example, I bought a pair of shoes for my 14 month old son today that were "on sale" for $24.99! But they are sooo much better quality than the ones you can get for $12.99 or so at Wal-mart or Target. I'll buy myself the cheaper shoes, but I think Maggie and Joshua need better shoes that fit exactly right, give (in the soles area) when you go up on tiptoes, etc. Joshua has been falling quite a bit recently and I'm wondering if it was *partly* that his shoes weren't fitting right.
I LOVE going to thrift stores too!! That's my main place of interest on Saturdays if I don't have the kids with me. You can find so much for sooooo little. I love finding name brand clothes for $3! (And then you get up to the register to find out it's half-price day!) Whoo-hoo!
Dh doesn't have to worry about money being safe with me....except for the thrift store thing, then he would be wise to set a limit before I go!
