Are you using your A/C yet?
luvmykids wrote: We haven't had the slightest need for it until the last few days, between the nice breezes and afternoon showers. But I think we're officially in summer now, not a rain cloud in sight and UGH it's hot. It's only about 90 but upstairs it's so hot I couldn't even finish putting the laundry away.
Ours isn't even hooked up yet, how complicated is it? All I know is you get on the roof and do something with the hose
lovemy2 replied: Oh yeah several times...yours isn't hooked up all year round?
Cece00 replied: Uh, yeah. Since like March.
luvmykids replied: No, is yours? You get pretty cold in the winter, don't you? Do you have refrigerated air or evaporative?
C&K*s Mommie replied: We have central heat and air, and use one or the other most of the year. Ours is a neccessity in this humidity, and even though it is painful to pay the electric company every month, we still have been using our a/c since a month or so ago. It was broken for a week, but it was still nice out at the time.
A&A'smommy replied: wow yours isn't hooked up all year round ?? I have never heard of that...
We have been using ours since uhhhh end of Feb. or beginning of March... Can't really remember though since we never completely stopped using it. We have pretty hot weather during the winter sometimes too. Its 93 degrees right now but it was hotter earlier probably around 95 or 96 and you could kinda tell inside the house.
luvmykids replied: I'm LMBO because I've never heard of having it on year round Of course in some places, but not in general.
It must be another NM ritual....and it is definitely a ritual both in spring to hook it up and fall to winterize it. The guys generally do it Labor Day weekend, it involves beer on the roof while pretending it's an all day chore
But seriously, here we disconnect the water, flush the pump, and cover it, and to start it up again means taking a hose on the roof, priming the pump, etc. Maybe we're one of the few areas that uses that kind of A/C, evaporative cooling? Now I'm so curious
When you turn yours on, do you have a switch for the pump and the fan? I'm wondering if everyone else uses refrigerated air which is a lot different from what I understand.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Am I using my A/C yet? Hmmmmm.....
Are you kidding??
My3LilMonkeys replied: I threatened DH with bodily harm if he didn't put ours in a month ago...I like it cold when I sleep.
lovemy2 replied: Beers and roofs don't sound like a really good pair to me
We do nothing like I said except flip the switch on the thermostat inside the house...............................
Calimama replied: We don't need A/C yet. I thought EVERYONE either turned it on or plugged it in. Shows what I know.
Boo&BugsMom replied: HECK YEAH!!! It has reached 90 degrees with 100% humidity already. I'm a whimp too...not a good combo! We have central air and heat so it's hooked up year round, but they don't get used year round. It gets turned on and off as we need it.
redchief replied: We haven't got ours installed yet... For next summer.
Kentuckychick replied: Definitely! It's been in the mid to upper 90's here for several weeks and in the upper 80's since about mid-may. It's actually been above average temps. and we're in a pretty big drought
Makes me want to go back to the beach even more!!! Of course, we were in NC... south of us and it was only in the upper 60's last week on the beach That was a bit annoying. But still beats the heat and hummidity here.
punkeemunkee'smom replied:
It has been on MOST days since we moved to Texas 20+ years ago!
Brias3 replied: It's been killer here since last week, so we've had the air on that whole time. Before, I was trying to make do with windows open to get a fresh breeze but with still, thick air all weekend, we couldn't suffice.
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Holy cow, Jessy-Ann. Where the heck do you live? Ours first came on in late May. But it got a major break two weeks ago when we had 5 days when the high temperature didn't hit 50.
coasterqueen replied: Dh told me that very few people use evaporative air anymore. I had to have him explain it to me because I had no clue.
We have turned it on, but since our electric rates are astronomical this year we have it set on 80 when we aren't here and 75 to 77 when we are home. The only time we put it lower than that right now is in the morning for a 1/2 hour after I blow dry and flat iron my hair because I'm usually sweating terribly then. As the summer goes on I'm sure we will have to turn it down some, but hopefully we can hold out. We are using the ceiling fans a lot more than we used to, that's for sure. Other times when it's hot in here we go get in the pool.
redplaydoh replied: We don't have A/C... and it's been mid 90's here lately. We open all the windows overnight and let the cooler air come in and around 10am I close all the windows and blinds and it stays tolerable for the most part. We have a little a/c you can set up inside a room with a vent hose that vents through a window. We just haven't bothered with it yet and it isn't powerful enough to cool anything but the room it is in.
boyohboyohboy replied: we have terrible humidity, so i have had mine on for a while now...i might just strap myself to it for the summer..
lisar replied: I'm with you.
gr33n3y3z replied: like Ed said we dont have it yet But we really dont need it as of now bc the beach keeps everything pretty nice
luvbug00 replied: we havn't put it on yet for more then a coupple hours the other day and it's been up to 97 outside. we try to not use it as it is not cheep! and we are! lol!
Kaitlin'smom replied: Yep espically when the humidity is bad. I have it at 74 and I am cold I am thinking of going to 75, last year I loved 74 and DH wanted 73. I keep tring to keep it a bit higher to keep the cost lower.
Mommy2Isabella replied: OH GEEZ ... LOL ours never goes off. we have central heating and air. LOL ... I can't imagine having to do all that work for a nice temperature throughout the house.
However, ours is set at 75 during the summer, and during the winter sometimes we don't really use it ..
moped replied: If I had AC I would have been using it for a loooong time - UGH.
Very few people have it here, there are really only about one month that it was be good, otherwise it is pretty even temps
PrairieMom replied: We have used ours 3 different days. I am trying to conserve, My inner Al Gore is very aware when it is breezy out, and we keep the blinds closed to keep the sun out... Anyway, I have it set to cool to 78 degrees, I haven't been turning it on until it gets about 84 upstairs.
MoonMama replied: We have central air and yes its been on...However DH was beyond hot last night so he froze me out. Glad Braedin was at Nana's.
3xsthefun replied: Yes, we started using ours since last month.
