Ashley's homework.... - fun project

MommyToAshley wrote: Ashley has homework every week... they send it home on Monday and it is due on Friday. They want the parent involved in the homework so it takes a little time. This week's homework was about the letter "B"... so they could, make a bracelet with blue, brown and black beads, or make a blue banner with "b" items, or make a book of "b" items.

Ashley chose to make the book. We went through our photographs and printed pictures of her wiht "B" items.... Like Belle, Ballerina, bread crumbs (feeding the ducks), bumper cars, baby, barbie, etc. Then she took some of her scrapbooking paper, glued the pictures down and wrote a description for each picture. The final book is SOOOO cute! She did it all herself... she picked the papers, wrote the words, glued it down.... I did punch the holes and do the ribbon though. I was quite impressed... she scraps better than me. laugh.gif I hope they give it back, I want to keep it.

I took some pictures of it just in case they don't give it back. There were twelve pages total, but here is a few sample pics (Hope you don't mind if I share)...

The cover.

MommyToAshley replied: An inside page

luvmykids replied: Aw, that is SO cute! wub.gif What a smart girl! Hope you get it back happy.gif

I may have to steal that idea, Macie and I are always looking for stuff to do while the twins are in school thumb.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
I have seen where they do scrapbooks and find a picture for every letter of the alphabet....just another idea that might be neat for you to do together.

gr33n3y3z replied: very nice I like that
When our kids had home work like that they didnt get a choice on how to do it

redchief replied: Great project, Dee Dee!

What are you going to do for "C"?

MommyToAshley replied:
???

They send home a list to choose from. For M, Ashley made a couple of masks.

ediep replied: thats awesome!! great work and a wonderful keepsake!!

Kaitlin'smom replied: how cute....hummm I now have a great idea as a spin off for Kait and I to do.......

DansMom replied: That's fabulous, Dee Dee! She has great penmanship for her age smile.gif

redchief replied:
Oops... That's what I get for assuming you were running right through the alphabet. emlaugh.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
Awee, thanks. I think so too... but the school is always correcting her penmanship, especially the lower case letters. But, I think her preschool never really focused on writing lower case letters so Ashley was used to writing in all caps. I never really gave it much thought until now.

I was surprised that they are going through the alphabet, since the kids are supposed to be reading by Christmas. They must really move fast, otherwise I don't know how they would be reading by Christmas... that's only a few months away. I was getting worried that Ashley might be getting bored since she has been reading for some time, but they do a lot of fun stuff with each unit so she really likes it.

mom21kid2dogs replied: thumb.gif She did a great job! Her handwriting is great!!! thumb.gif (Way better than my poor lefty's rolleyes.gif )

MommyToAshley replied:
Ashley is a lefty too! thumb.gif Well, she can write with both hands, but she writes with her left hand almost 100% of the time now.

Kirstenmumof3 replied: wub.gif Those are so cute and what a great idea!

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
SO CUTE!!!! thumb.gif

Maddie's school is very strict on penmanship! wacko.gif I didn't know, either since her preschool didn't focus on that. I think w/Ethan I'll know better and work with him early (since he is a boy and all. emlaugh.gif ) I may even inform the preschool that they need to work on this as well. Couldn't hurt. tongue.gif

MommyToAshley replied:
That is probably a good idea. I think the requirements for kindergarten have changed but the preschools haven't quite caught up yet. I loved Ashley's preschool, it was excellent, and she did excellent on her entrance test for kindergarten. But, they just didn't focus on writing lower case letters. Things sure have changed. I remember when I went to kindergarten that there were a lot of kids that didn't even go to preschool -- I don't see how kids could skip preschool these days. Preschool is like the old kindergarten.

Kaitlin'smom replied: I never gave it much thought either but Kaitlin's school is working on both upper and lower case letters, so hopefully she wont have any problems
