Asparagus

mckayleesmom wrote: Ok...Im trying to eat healthier these days and make smarter choices...I bought a bunch of asparagus the other day and now I need to know how to cook it biggrin.gif

amymom replied: It's fresh (I am assuming) There are special pots to cook it in. They say if you put about an inch of water in the bottom of the pot and stand the asparagus up it steams really niceley. However I do not have one of those pots. So, I cut off the bottoms, then put it into the steamer (laying down) like any other veggie and steam them. I put butter, salt & pepper on them to eat them. Yum,yum.

My MIL puts them into a microwave dish (with only the water from washing them) and microwaves for 3 to 6 mins. She says they are great that way....but I do not microwave veggies very often tongue.gif

mckayleesmom replied: lol....its frozen...it was all I could find

MyLuvBugs replied: Stem them, boil them...OH...or on the grill. Yummy!!! Now I want asparagus. smile.gif Can I come over? j/k laugh.gif

Aprilnewbee replied: Ya don't!
Ya throw it in the trash because asparagus is GROSS!! puke.gif

Just kiddin', my inlaws always boil till soft, and then sprinkle almond slivers and butter over them, I dunno if that is good, I don't eat asparagus.

Enjoy!

mckayleesmom replied: I think I will just steam them in water and put a little dash of garlic....Im trying to lose wieght and I don[t want to use margarine.

Boys r us replied: My favorite way to cook asparagus is to lay them on aluminum foil and pour some olive oil over them and sprinkle them with some canadian chicken seasoning or montreal chicken seasoning and wrap the foil up and cook them on the grill.

amymom replied: Oh Nichole's way sounds really good! Frozen--I would do and have done in the microwave no water needed, put into a glass container if possible, cooks better IMO. Sprinkle with garlic, if that is what you like. ENJOY! Can I come for some?

Warbride replied: I saw this on 30 minute meals, sounded good to me.

kit_kats_mom replied: lemon juice is better than garlic IMO. Also, prepare for smelly pee. We eat fresh asparagus about once a week since itt's one of K's faves but we all stink afterwards rolling_smile.gif

Why Asparagus = smelly pee
