Attempted abduction in my neighborhood!

5littleladies wrote: My dad called me and told me that some guy tried to abduct a 7 and 8 year old on Monday 2 blocks from my house! He offered to drive them home and buy them ice cream, and they refused and ran away. Now I'm a pretty laid back person, and I understand that stranger abduction is very rare, but this is a little too close to home. ohmy.gif I don't think I'll be letting the girls play alone in the front yard for awhile. unsure.gif

1lilpeanut2love replied: OMG! That is crazy. ohmy.gif I wouldn't let them out by themselves. I would be so scared. blink.gif Glad all is okay with your children. hug.gif Scarey stuff!! wacko.gif

~Roo'sMama~ replied: ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif That's WAY to close to home! So scary. Like I've tried to tell Scott so many times, the odds may be next to nothing that it could happen to you, but the fact is that it still can happen. sad.gif I'm so glad that they knew what to do and didn't go with the guy - and that it wasn't your girls!! hug.gif hug.gif

Crystalina replied: ohmy.gif I don't trust anyone anywhere! We live on 20 acres, on a dirt road and I still will not even leave them outside by themselves. DH thinks I'm overly paranoid but right now we have an escaped convict (been on America's Most Wanted) and how do I know he isn't living in the wood? Not only that there are animals..bears, coyotes. You never know but I'm glad these kids were quick thinkers. I say kudos to their parents for going over this with them.

coasterqueen replied: hug.gif Very scary!

This happened to me when I was in grade school, walking home from school with a friend (we lived in town at that time). Thankfully we were smart to not go with him and we ran as fast as we could to our dcp's house so he didn't pursue us. My dad was so freaked out that for a solid month, he'd let us walk home, but he'd follow us behind in his car to make sure we were safe but to also see if he could catch the perv who had done it. He was never caught.

CantWait replied: Very scary indeed. We had this happen a few months back a couple months before the end of school, needless to say our kids were walking with someone or being drove for at least a couple weeks. It's pretty sad when we have to worry about the safetly of our children by complete strangers.

My2Beauties replied: OMG that is so scary ohmy.gif That definitely is a little too close for comfort. I had this happen to me when I was around 8 years old. My mother had let me walk around the corner to the little gas station store that was there, she told me if I wasn't back in 5 minutes she was walking over there to get me. She was waiting outside ont he front porch for me and I had just rounded the corner going back to my house and this guy stopped and asked me to get into the car with him and show him where a street was because he was unfamiliar with the area (I'm 8 you idiot do you think I know where anything is around here). My mom saw him and started screaming at him and running towards his car saying some not so nice things about what she would do to him when she got over there and he sped off! I was so shocked that I just stood there scared half to death. Everyone needs to always remember that it can always happen to anyone and we need to be really careful about letting our kids (especially young ones) out of our sight. I'm so glad it wasn't your girls. I hope that scumbag is out of that area now.

luvmykids replied: ohmy.gif How scary! I'm so glad those girls got away from him. I'd probably put us on lockdown.

TheOaf66 replied: sorry to hear that, I would have that talk about strangers again with them to drive it home

A&A'smommy replied: OMG I would have FREAKED out.. I'm glad it wasn't your girls though and that the other children are okay, poor things!!! hug.gif hug.gif

5littleladies replied:
Yep-we did that right away. I know my 8 year old would have the presence of mind to do the right thing, but my 6 year old is a bit flighty at times so we really need to get it into her head!

Boo&BugsMom replied: This is why I don't even let Tanner play by himself outside, not even in the back yard. These things are too scary and there are too many nutcases out there.
