Aubrey's Birth Story
My2Beauties wrote: OK so I went in to work Monday morning the 30th of April and I was having contractions. They weren't really strong and of course I'd been having them off and on, hence the reason I'd already been to the hospital 3 other times. I was monitoring them but thought it was like any other day. I only had to work from 10-2 so I kept having them through the day. I decided around 1:00 that when I left work I was going to go to the hospital because I was also feeling sort of dizzy and nauseated at this point and the contractions were coming with some pain and cramping. So after I left work I checked myself into the hospital. DH was in Cincinatti working, so I thought boy oh boy if this is the day I hope to God he can get back here to me. So they checked me in and had me on the monitors by about 2:30-2:45. I was having contractions every 2-3 minutes and some of them were pretty bad. When they first checked me she said I was still only 2-3 cm and 70% effaced But they knew I was 38 weeks and they were seeing how bad my contractions were and how often they were coming. So after an hour they checked me again and nothing. They asked me what I wanted to do, I said preferably I'd love to have this baby but it's up to you guys and my doc ultimately. They told me to go grab something light to eat and take a long walk and come back in 2 hours. So I had my mom come pick me up and take me to get a salad and some water and take me to the park by the hospital to walk. So she did and while I was walking I got to a point to where it hurt so bad that I couldn't hardly walk anymore. We drove back up to the hospital, they checked me and I had dilated to 4 cm. So they went ahead and kept me, administered my IV at this point. I called DH and he called the crew caller at work and asked them to send a cab. It was going to be another hour or so before the cab would get there. I called my dad in Alabama and he said he was on his way. They took me back to L&D. They watched me for 45 minutes to an hour and still said I wasn't dilated anymore, the nurse in L&D said they were being generous about 4 cm, she said she thought it was more like 3 1/2 or so. She said my doc was talking about breaking my water to see if I would progress since it was taking me so long, I had only dilated 1 1/2 cm in 3 hours. So I consented to that, about 30 minutes later the doc came in, broke my water, that was uncomfortable but didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would. She told me to sit tight, see how I do with just my water being broken. She told me my contractions would start to get stronger so whenever I wanted my epi to let her know. After about 20 minutes, I couldn't take it anymore , I asked for the epi. They came in, put me on my right side, gave me the epi. At that point I still hadn't dilated anymore. This had been a whole 'nother 1 - 1 1/2 hours later, so she talked to my doc again. They asked me if I would like to try a small dosage of pitocin to get things rolling. I called DH to see where he was because I wanted him to be close, by this time he was in town and on his way up to the hospital. I asked them if they thought I would go on my own without it and they said that I would but it would probably take a really long time and since they broke my water they didn't want to risk a dry birth. So they administered the pitocin at this point, the smallest dosage possible. After about an hour, DH had gotten there and I noticed my epi had started to wear off. OMG that stuff is the worst stuff in the world ever when you don't have an epi. I was bawling crying, I called the nurses station 3 times to come back in there and give me some more, DH was being wonderful, he was stroking my hair and kissing me, I was in so much pain, I was absolutely bawling. They finally got there and gave me some more.....ahhhh relief! They said they'd be back in 1 hour to roll me over on my left side. I was 6 cm at this point. About an hour and a half later, dad got there, they hadn't rolled me over yet neither. I was sort of starting to feel some hard pressure. So I called the nurse she said let's roll you over so the epi hits the other side of your body more. So they did and within minutes I was in pain again...I needed to push! I called the nurse again and had her check me. She goes well you were just 6 cm an hour and a half ago, but we'll see....my dad had literally just walked through the door at this point. She checked me and said oh there's a head, you're complete, we're ready to go. So they set everything up...called the doc who was stitching someone up, the nurses told me I could go ahead and start pushing b/c the doc would be there soon. It took me 30 minutes to push (only took 4 pushes, maybe 5 minutes with Hanna ), it was killing me. I felt like the epi was wearing off again at this point. Finally after pushing for 30 minutes at 1:25 am on May 1, 2007 Aubrey Lynn entered the world. She was screaming crying She definitely had good lungs. She looked just like her sister I tore in 2 spots and needed a couple of stitches, nothing major. I was able to get up and walk around within 20 minutes of giving birth.n My epi was definitely wearing off, I felt the stiches a little bit and felt them pulling the catheter out...ouch ! Everything is going well, I feel a lot better, my tummy has went down considerably, I have a tiny little pooch right now, but that ugly brown line is there So it was funny, DH got there hours before, Dad got there minutes before....everyone was there and it was perfect! I was in labor for about 5-5 1/2 hours after being admitted but was there from 2:30 that day until 1:25 am I haven't slept since
