Audiologist App Update...
mummy2girls wrote: First of all i wanted to say jenna did AWESOME! She did everything she was asked to do , i was so proud of her!
So this is the outcome:
~ She has mild hearing loss in the right ear. because she has fluid in there. And the fluid is was is causing the loss. So she is sending the report to her ped and recommends that he reffers her to see a ENT ( ear, nose throat doc). Its a long waiting list so if the pes refers her she may get in faster. but even with that i could be looking at a 2 month wait at least:( And if the ENT sees that the fluid is of concern then she may have to get tubes in her ears. Because of that fluid keep building up and get worse she could get worse of a hearing loss. The lady noticed that she cant pick up the soft whispering sound beeps at all.. Also she will recommend to her ped to refer Jenna to a speech pathologist to see if they think her speech isnt where it should be at... With the fluid in her ear it can interfer with speech. because she is saying the words as she hears it so to her it sounds right but to us it doesnt. So i will know more when i see her ped..
So with kids with tubes what am i looking forward to? is it a day surgery or will she be in the hospitalfor a few days?
C&K*s Mommie replied: No answers for you, my one or two of my nephews had tubes put in. I am not sure of anything to answer your questions.
Just wanted to say WTG to Jenna for hanging in there during the tests, and hope you guys get the answers you need.
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'm glad to hear you got your answers. and to Jenna for dong good with the test taking!
A&A'smommy replied: that is great, I'm SO glad to hear that you got some news. Tubes is one day surgery and its painless so that is good! WTG Jenna!!!
Celestrina replied: Ben is having some speech problems, so if you need anyone to talk to don't hesitate to send me a pm or email.
gr33n3y3z replied: Well when John got the tubes in up teen years ago The after hurt bad but it seems to go away with in the next few days less and less
But its a good move and she will be in and out and home the same day
I'm glad they found out what is wrong
amymom replied: I hope it all goes well. I hope you get an ENT appt soon. And ST too. My DD had speech therapy from 4ys old until 1st grade and the technicues they teach in speech help with reading skills. (for that reason I think all kids would benefit from ST)
Also, recently someone posted about having the tubes put in and the operation took like 5 minutes. I cannot locate the thread (and my memory is so poor I do not remember whose child it was ), I thought it was in Children's Health, but maybe someone else recalls it and can post a link. It would be a good post for someone who is considering tubes to read IMO.
MamaJAM replied: I hope you can get the ENT appointment quickly.
DLR-DKR~ Mommy replied: My son had tubes when he was 2.. from repeat ear infections. And he was in and out in an hour. It was pretty simple. I dont remember him being in any pain. He was pretty normal.. he was probably used to the pain in his ears. he had 7 ear infections in one year. He was immune to antibiotics because he was always on them. The tubes come out by themselves within a certain time period. But Im rambling, it was a long time ago- but from what I remember it was a relatively simple procedure. Good luck with everything.
jcc64 replied: We never got the tubes, but Noah did suffer temporary hearing loss from so many ear infections, which has affected his speech to this day. (he's 10) Early intervention in the form of speech therapy is ALWAYS a good thing. I kept accepting the "he'll grow out of it" excuse from the school, and I regret it. The earlier she gets the help, the better.
coasterqueen replied: I'm glad they found out what is wrong but GEESH, 2 month waiting list. Can't that fluid cause permament hearing loss? I can't believe you have to wait that long, if not longer. I am so glad we don't have to wait that long here, I'd go bonkers.
I don't have any answers for you on the tubes. My nephew had them but I don't recall the procedures with it.
amymom replied: ok found it! Here is the link: thead about tube operation
fashionmumofboys replied: Hoping you get an appointment soon. WTG Jenna for being such a good girl during her testing.
