BC advice - q about depo

anyhoo so right now there are two options.

1. the ring ( used it before and i LOVE it!) however he doesn't have full faith it works it's 98% or whatever..I love that it doesnt make me yarf like the pills and other methods do.
2. depo- he swears it will never fail and yada yada..however i have heard some nasty things about it's repercussions on the female organ. I also hate shots. ( although he did promise to buy me a treat every time i go get a shot..lol!)

so the big thing for him is effective and for me...I just dont want to be puking because my tolerance of hormones is low..to zip..lol.

so can i get some info here..especially on the depo?

PrairieMom replied: Sorry, I'm no help. I have heard really bad things about the depo, and I am against taking any kind of hormone into my body if it can be avoided. So, I am a condom girl until DH gets the big V

Dh and I have always used condoms unless we are trying to get pg, and while they're not exactly fun, they do work - and without any side effects.

This is me too, although for me I went off BC to have my kids and tried for a few years to stay off of it and then my ovarian cysts came back and well, I can't find anything else that works. My doc advised me to try depo but I just heard too many bad things about it, so I went with something else.

Swood75 replied: I didn't like the depo at all..I did it for a little bit after Kameron and Kyleigh and it made me gain weight and DH siad it made me a total grouch..I am using Mirena now and haven't had any bad side effects..On a side not,I HATE condoms too..LOL

I'm on a low dose pill, which is the same hormone throughout the month. I have issues with harmones and really prefer NOT to take any kind of bc but after having Autumn I had LOTS of issues and needed something it helped LOTS.

Cherie replied: I used to always be on bcp... but in the last 6 months or so I decided to stop (not ttc just didn't like the hormones). Dh & I have been doing either withdrawl or condoms.

I just don't like the way they feel..And to me it also ruins the mood when DH says hold on a sec while he puts it on.. I can live with the mess because it isn't me that has to clean it up..

But i dont like how they feel. I also hate having to get them on ..although to toot my own horn i found some creative ways to do it.. it's just takes up time and you gotta do it all smexy (smexy = smart and sexy) to ensure they don't rip and so you don't kill the mood.

pills are a No go for me..lol I'd forget to take them. i do it every time! lol!

You might want to look into the mirena then..Just google it..It is nice because it lasts for 5 years..It is an IUD..

I've taken it and HATED it. I had HORRIBLE side effects. I would bleed for LOOOONNNNGG stretches of time. Like a month straight? And then not at all and then a month again. I was anemic from it. Slept ALL the time. And had SEVERE depression. I stopped the shot and it ALL stopped (makes me think it was the shot).

How about something like that Minera (sp?) IUD?

I did use the shot, and I gained 35 pounds in a couple months. Also, it made me bleed for 8-9 months straight. And that's with only one shot. I never did go back for another. I also heard that it causes infertility in otherwise fertile people. For me, it could have helped my infertility problems, but it wasn't the main cause.

Tom and I did the pull and pray method in between kids....and no whe had the V over a year ago, so I am not help

For a while I did. It was great for me to have her so young. I just think I'm not ready anytime soon or ever even to do it again. I don't really need more then her. Maybe I'll change my mind in 5 years but for now..in my mind..im done.

Sarah&Mackenzie replied: I am on a low dose pill and have no side effects. As far as forgetting to take the pill, just keep them by something you do everyday, like your toothbrush or purse. Just a suggestion, hope you find something that works for you.
