hopefulmomtobe replied: I have blue eyes, DH has brown....says our baby will have brown eyes. Dang it!
PrairieMom replied: We did this before Ben was born. we have a 100% chance of having blue eyed babies. It has held true.
Brias3 replied: This is cool. I've tried it before. However, it was only partially correct for me. My husband has blue eyes and I have brown- we have three blue-eyed children. What's more is that my parents both have brown eyes but my youngest brother's are blue. I think it was once explained that the two recessives on each of THEIR parents sides overruled the brown trait in a rare occurence...or something like that
lesliesmom replied: That is neat... and pretty accurate. I have brown eyes, DH has blue-green eyes. We have a brown-eyed girl; a blue-eyed boy and I think the baby is going to be blue-green like her daddy... you kow the kind of eyes I mean, they change from blue to green depending on the color they wear. I love that!
My3LilMonkeys replied: I'm not at all surprised by our results.....My mom, dad, both sisters, myself, MIL, DH's Dad and DH all have blue eyes (his sisters don't but I don't count them because they have a different father than DH)....therefore I'd say we pretty much have 100% blue eye genes.
redchief replied: It hit us dead on. One pair of blue, the rest green eyes here.
MyBabeMaddie replied: Its like a Punnett Square!!! I loved those things from Bio!
ediep replied: love it!! especially since I was (am) a science teacher!
I sent a link to my teacher friend, I'll bet she'll use it for a lesson in her class
kimberley replied: it was wrong for me. both the girls have blue eyes and it said 50% brown, 31% blue... more like 100% blue
so Amy, what's with all the baby prediction sites?? something we should know??
amynicole21 replied: Oh HECK no!! My pregnant sister sent it to me
MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Worked for my brown eyed boy. We apparently have a 75% chance of having brown eyed babies. 25% chance of green.
Cece00 replied: We have like 37% of having blues, 13% of greens and 50% of browns...amazingly, we have 2 blue eyed children.
My2Beauties replied: OK for mine it was hard, DH has hazel eyes so sometimes they look really green and other times they look light brown, Hanna has the exact same color eyes as Brian. I have blue eyes, we have a 50% change of this baby having blue eyes and 50% of them having green eyes
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Oooh oooh oooh I have TONS to say on this subject... I loved loved loved my biotech classes... we made mutant flies... lol we cross bread them with different genetic traits... and I can explain the whole recessive gene thing... but it's long winded so only if asked!
McKenna replied: It's not long winded at all lol, I'm a geneticist by the way lol. Say everyone has two copies of the gene for eye colour, call them blue and brown.
Simple Way
If you parents both had brown eyes and you have blue, each parent must have one of each colour gene, blue and brown, their eyes are brown as brown is dominant, and blue is recessive.
If you have blue eyes you got the blue colour of both of them so you have blue eyes.
Simple way of putting it, but it is of course more complex and this doesnt account for green eyes and the many other colours, mainly as I think there are 4 alleles for eye colour and at least 3 colour variants each being dominant or recissive to one another. Not sure on the numbers as my area is eye colour lol.
Hillbilly Housewife replied: Ah boo on you for spoiling my fun!
JamieR replied: This is a good one, no harm in trying ... its fun too
kit_kats_mom replied: Dead on with Lauren...Brown....but only a 7.8% chance of K's eye color which I call blue but they are really grey blue. I knew it. She's a mutant.
