Back from the doctor - some bad news?

amymom wrote: Well, my dd has a sinus infection as I suspected. Her temp was up again in the doctors office. She is taking an antibiotic for the next 10 days. So she will be good as new again soon. She is napping now.

The unsettling thing is the doctor heard a heart murmur(sp?). My dd is 9 years old. This murmur has not ever been heard before. My son has what is called a functional murmur, meaning(as I understand it) it is no big deal. But his was heard when he was just a few days old. His is more likely to be heard when he is ill or growing. But it has really always been there. My DD has been seen by ALOT doctors ALOT of different times, and noone has ever heard this. The doc said it could still be a functional murmur, being more pronounced while she has a fever. But she wants her to see the heart specialist to be certain. There is one about 200 miles from here but he travels to the hospital 20 miles from here once per month. She said we could wait and see him whenever the appt comes up, since there is a waiting list. So that wait and see makes me feel a bit better. Still scary though.

MyBrownEyedBoy replied: Logan's had a heart murmur since he was born. Probably since he developed a heart. Most murmurs are really nothing to worry about. It is a good idea to have it checked out, but try not to worry. Nothing good comes of worry. Take that from me, as the parent of a heart kid, worrying does nothing but cause you to miss the small happy moments.

My3LilMonkeys replied: Hopefully it will be just nothing. Try not to worry yourself too much! hug.gif

luvmykids replied: hug.gif hug.gif I know that is unsettling news but hopefully the fact it hasn't been heard before is a good sign. Hope she feels better soon, KUP.

ashtonsmama replied: hug.gif Wow-that is odd that they never heard it before...I have heart palpitations, mainly from an eating disorder that I dealt with in high school...and I know how scary that is. So good luck-I'm sorry you had to deal with that on top of her being sick today! I know she'll be just fine, but ((((((((HUGS)))))))) anyways!

Kirstenmumof3 replied: hug.gif The same thing happened to us with Spencer. My DH brought him into the ER oneday, can't remember why, but he turned out to be fine. Anyway the ER doctor asked my DH if he knew that Spencer had a heart murmur, DH said "NO" The doctor told us it was no big deal and that he would likely outgrow it. Since being at SickKids, none of the doctors have even mentioned it.

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Oh that is scary...sending you all p&pts!! hug.gif

NEWMOM05 replied: Try not to worry. Hope she feels better. hug.gif hug.gif

redchief replied: I agree with the others... I wouldn't worry too much and you're doing the right thing. Hopefully the specialist will have good news for you!

danahas4monkeys replied: Hi, we were actually just at our cardiologist today Jordan has 2 holes in his heart teeeny weeny ones that dont do anything. But more to the point no other doctor has ever heard jordans he will be 10 this month except the ped who found it when he was 2wks old, even his ped now says it isnt there and the cardiologist said uh yeah it is. Good luck and hope its nothing!

jcc64 replied: I had/have a heart murmur that went undetected until I was about 12. It's caused me no trouble whatsoever.
I know it's hard not to panic when you hear "heart specialist", but I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's pretty common.

Heather77 replied: I hope your dd is feeling better soon.
As for the heart murmur, I hope it turns out to be nothing. hug.gif

amymom replied: Thanks EVERYONE!

Logically I know that seeing the cardiologist is the thing to do. But it seems so strange given its never been heard before but since it happened to you Jeanne I guess it can happen. I just never heard of a functional murmur showing up when they are older. Esp. given how many times my dd's heart has been listened to by tons of different drs. I won't worry about this though. ohmy.gif I'll try anyway

Anyway, she slept some this evening. But woke up at 6pm disoriented and with a very high fever. It was too early for IBprofen so I gave her tylenol. Then Ibprofen at 8pm. A bit early since she had it last at 3pm BUT her temp was at 104 at 6pm and 101 at 7:30. It is now normal but she still can't believe it is Tuesday. Oh well, no school tomorrow either.

Thanks and good night all!
