Battery powered cars, what's your thoughts?
MommyToAshley wrote: What do you think about the battery powered cars/rv's for kids? We actually bought one for Ashley last year and took it back. We took it back because it was defective, but we decided not to get her one because we'd rather her spend the time riding her bike or scooter or somethig that she would get excercise doing. (She's gotten really good on her bicycle.) I know a lot of kids that have them and they look fun. So, I go back and forth on my decision whether to get her another one or not.
mckayleesmom replied: Mckaylee and Russell have never had one. Mckaylee's little friend Emily had one and Mckaylee was afraid to ride in....One time she was actually driving and she jumped out... . We decided not to buy one for her also...They do have these 3 wheeler ones with Dora on them and Mckaylee rode a friends and loved it, but she loves her princess bike and tricycle just as much.
gr33n3y3z replied: when rick and john were small they both had one they rode them for a short time and that was it So to me it was a waste of money But its up to you and what Ashley wants
C&K*s Mommie replied: We love them. We are still wanting to get both of the girls one together. Kellie has one, but she does not ride it terribly often. It is slow, and only goes in forward. She prefers to either ride C's bike or her tricycle, or they ride the tricycle together.
I like them because like a bicycle/tricycle, it takes thought processes to know that you are coming to close to something and you have to dodge it, or when you are out of room you will need to back up.
Maddie&EthansMom replied: Maddie never wanted one...she was also afraid of them. But, Ethan would love to have one. They have the smaller ones at Wal Mart and they are pretty inexpensive. I thought about getting Ethan one of those, but I'm afraid he won't ride it very long.
As you can tell, I go back and forth on this one, too.
Kaitlin'smom replied: Kaitlin has the Dora Jeep, she is not so great steering it yet she did try and drive up our tree she got it for christmas from gramy and grampy. I think they are fun but I do keep a close eye on her. Oh and she insists on wearing her helmit
coasterqueen replied: Kylie got a hand-me-down one from her uncle last year. She has barely touched it. Now she'll get on our friends little boys one and drive it everywhere with him, but she won't touch the one we have. We've thought about buying her one, but aren't going to do it unless she starts showing interest in the other one. She wants a Disney Princess one.
Course Kylie doesn't like to ride her bike much either. She's weird. She LOVES to play outside, but not with bikes or scooters or such...just her imagination.
IF you think she'll use it I'd go for it. I think it just depends entirely on the kid. FWIW those things are way too expensive for me to take the plunge without hard evidence it's going to get LOTS of use.
TheOaf66 replied: they are too expensive and I never thought about the exercise thing with the bike but that is a good point, that gives a better justification than just price as to why Tanner did not get one.
luvmykids replied: The kids have one of the jeeps at their grandparents house, and they LOVE it, but I'm think it's because it's something they only get to play with sometimes.
booey2 replied: Mathew got a Ninja ATV one when I was pg with Thomas, for his 3rd birthday, DH's dad bought it for him. Anyway, they love to ride it especially when we remember to charge the battery. They never really over did it, they like to run around and us thier boards, bikes and other physical toys just as much as the ATV. Thomas now claims it as his own, and they do where their helmets when riding it.

jcc64 replied: Not a big fan of those cars. I would prefer the kids to do something that requires some energy from them- like a scooter or a bike. But the main reason- when they outgrow them, it's such a big thing to get rid of. We're not the types to organize a yard sale, we don't have a garage or a basement, and I know I'd be tripping over it in the yard for years to come.
ions_momma replied: Ion has one here at home and also one at the IL's house. He used to ride in them all the time, but as he gets older he rides his bike or scooter more.
AlexsPajamaMama replied: Alex has a Jeep at my Dads house and a 4wheeler at MILs He enjoys driving them while he is at their houses visiting But I agree with you Dee Dee, wanting them to ride a bicycle or something to get the exercise
Boo&BugsMom replied: I love the thought of them, and think they are cool and I think Tanner would love one, but like Troy stated...too expensive for our taste. We live paycheck to paycheck so it's not something we can go and splurge on, or should.
Brias3 replied: We have a Jeep type one that all the kids have used at one point or another but honestly, its not their favorite toy. They ride their bikes and scooters MUCH more. Quite honestly, I don't even know why we have it!
If Ashley would go for a camo-colored Jeep one, I'd gladly give it to you!
Nina J replied: We don't have one, but Emily likes to ride one that a friend of ours has. I might buy her one in a year or so, I think she's a bit to young yet. Plus, she's just getting into her bike and I want her to do more physical things, rather than buy her something that doesn't require much exercise.
