Biting and injuries
kit_kats_mom wrote: Well Katherine and I went to see her first movie today, Finding Nemo, and it was great! However, during the movie I was nursing her and that one little tooth got me good. She broke the skin and it hurts like the dickins! Is there anything in particular I should do to speed healing? I can feed from that side but I think I will probably favor the other side for a day or two. Any input?
BTW, everytime she has nipped me in the past, I just pull her off and set her down while I say "no bite!" pretty loudly. She thinks that this is the funniest thing in the world. I don't let her nurse for a few minutes after but it doesn't seem to be working. She tends to bite either right before she latches on or when she is done.
Kaitlin'smom replied: ouch! I have the lanolin I dont know if that will help or not. I do know that polysporin works better and faster than neosporin. IMO
Kirstenmumof3 replied: OUCH! When my DS was about 13 mths he did this to me once and once only! He bit, me I screamed and he cried! He drew blood he bit me so hard! I had little teeth marks in my breast for quite some time! I put him down on the floor and didn't nurse him for a few minutes! Claudia likes to do a little nipple right at the begining of the feeding, but has never actually bit me! I can't remember if I used anything, but I know warm teabags help when you have cracked nipples, or you could try putting a hot compress on for a while. But I think what you have suggested makes sense, just to favour the other side for a while! Hope it feels better soon!
supermom replied: I will swear by what my ped told me with my first one, and it's worked on every one of them ever since....
When they start to bite, pull them into you so they have to let go to catch their breath - it's hard to do at first, but very very effective.....only took about 3-4 times and we broke the biting habit.....
catou_98 replied: Just wanted to say that I've heard of it before too, supposed to work like a charm, wouldn't hurt to give it a try, good luck!
MommyToAshley replied: I can't add anything else than what has already been said, but I just wanted to offer hugs!
mckayleesmom replied: I read supermoms suggestion in an article too.
MomofTay&Sam replied: Ok first I want to say sorry for the boobie, but next I want to say did she like the movie?? I want to take Sam and his brother!
amynicole21 replied: I bet you that lansinoh would help soothe the bites - it worked wonders for me in the beginning with blisters and such!! Sophia's nipped me a few times, and each time I got a really mean face and shouted "no" and she cried I think next time I'll try doing what supermom suggested - I've heard that before from other moms.
PS - I went to see Finding Nemo by myself and LOVED it!! It is really a great movie (especially for Daddies and babies to watch together).
Julie (jem0622) replied: Affirmative on SuperMom's advice. I've always been given this process to follow and it works.
Laninsoh will help...but...let some air get to it too. You could put a wet tea bag on it.
HUGS Julie
jdkjd replied: Poor boobie!! I think Supermom's suggestion is a great one...maybe she'll respond to that.
And I'm jealous about you seeing Finding Nemo. Ryan refuses to see cartoons (except South Park) or musicals. Oh well.
Thank god for DVDs!
victoire2002 replied: Hope you feel better. I used the "pull him closer" method when Aidan bit me. He hasn't done it in about 4 wks or so, but I imagine that was pretty painful-- I can't imagine a bite breaking the skin there! OUCH!
BTW, DH really wants to take him to see Nemo..... how did he do in the theatre? Did you take him at a certain time of day? Perhaps it is an option, after all. I just assumed he was too young.
kit_kats_mom replied: Thanks for the tips! I'll try reeling her in the next time she does it. I used some neosporin and it feels a little bit better today.
The movie was great and the animation was awesome! katherine got a little cranky during the previews so I nursed her and she fell asleep. She woke up for the last 5 minutes or so, pointed to the screen and said "duche" which is her word for fish. LOL
