Boy in the balloon a hoax?

MommyToAshley wrote: I heard about this on the news this morning, that the whole incident may have been a hoax. OMG, there were so many people so scared for that little boy. If this turns out to be a hoax, then they should call Children Services or something. Here's the story: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/16/colorado.....boy/index.html

It's hard to get past this part, because as we all know, kids are so honest:

cameragirl21 replied: OMG, this family was on wife swap...I just saw the re-run of it earlier this week! They were totally nuts, seriously, all they did was look for storms and chase them and they were so not into the kids' safety, they purposely took their kids right into storms! They'd also all go to sleep with their clothes on so that if there was a storm in the middle of the night, they'd not have to spend time getting dressed to go after it!
There were three boys and they were totally unruly and the dad was even worse and their mother, OMG, I felt sorry for the other family who had her for 2 weeks.
I don't doubt for one second this was a hoax, sounds like the type of thing this family would do. dry.gif

PrairieMom replied: yeah, the whole thing seems off to me. Even if the balloon thing wasn't a hoax, I would definitely question their parenting.
Have you guys seen this? Don't watch it with your kids.

I'm sorry, this is not anything I would want my Children doing.

MommyToAshley replied:
OMG... how sad.

kimberley replied: as soon as i saw the boy wasn't in the balloon, i was sure it was a hoax. these people should be charged and kids placed with a real family. growl.gif

PrairieMom replied:
what? you mean you don't dress Ashley up like My Hankey the Christmas Poo and film it to put on your tube? I thought everyone did that. rolleyes.gif

So, no matter what "bad Mommy" thing I do today, I am giving myself extra points for at least not doing that to them. sad.gif

BAC'sMom replied:
Not THAT is some darn good parenting there!

Good Lord what is this world coming to? mad.gif

MommytoKKC replied: this saddens me. I watches this yesterday and was worried for the boy and felt so sorry for the family. Then i was so happy that is turned out well. It seemed like one of those miracle stories. Now if it's a hoax that just makes me so mad. They wasted a lot of people's time and worried a lot of people. And if it is a hoax, what are they teaching those kids?

Celestrina replied: I couldn't watch that entire video! I'm not sure I want to know what they had smeared all over that kid to make him look like Mr. Hankey. puke.gif

bluebear replied: "you said we did it for the show"
it has to be fake. the father probably lost the balloon and just wanted the military to get it back for him.

PrairieMom replied:
yeah, hope he liked how the rescue team attacked it with that pick ax thing, tearing holes all over it. rolling_smile.gif
IF rolleyes.gif it was a hoax, I hope they have to pay a HUGE fine for the waste of all the time and resources.

Crystalina replied:
If I'm not mistaken ( I watched the interview with LK this morning) , when the parent's ask why he didn't come when called he FIRST said, "You guys told me not to." and then the next quote about a t.v. show. So THAT kind of seals the deal for me.

...and did you see them on the Today show this morning. Falcon was the ONLY boy very sleepy. Even laying his head on his dads shoulder with mouth gapped open and eyes shut. Then the boy got sick, vomited everywhere. Dad look very very disgusted. I would bet $$ that that boy was medicated this morning to keep his mouth quiet. He was fine yesterday. Even last night. Now today this.... Those parents are HORRIBLE. growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif growl.gif
Falcon was vommiting everywhere on Live t.v. and mom only held the bowl and wiped his mouth, never once getting up! I would have, live t.v. or not, excused myself and my sick son. And before the cameras were all the way off of Dad (before they went to a break) he says, "Can someone come get him?". HELLO! Maybe you should!

PrairieMom replied:
I was kind of wondering the same thing. That kid was acting so strangely.

Kentuckychick replied:
Wait a minute! You're telling me that the Today show actually stuck around and videotaped a segment of their show while that poor child was sitting there, on national tv, VOMITING!?!?

Number one, ew. Number two... have we totally lost all sense of human respect and decency? (not us as in us here... just as in a general society) So yeah, this was probably a hoax, but it's certainly on the part of a SIX year old who couldn't possibly know any better.

The Today should have turned off their cameras, turned around and left that house. Forget doing a daggoned interview!

My3LilMonkeys replied:
Yes, they did. I had to turn it off at that point because I can't stand to watch people vomit.

Kentuckychick replied: Did anyone just see the absolutely RIDICULOUS news conference HE CALLED... with the MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT. Where he wanted the news reporters to put their questions in a box. Seriously.

You know, at first (as in, right after it happened) I was just so relieved that he was okay... not that I'm not still relieved, but come on... the video of the father unteathering and letting the balloon go HIMSELF. And then clearly being very angry because obviously the balloon wasn't supposed to be completely untethered (fly away). They knew that child wasn't in that balloon and my best guess is that they also knew he was in the attic the entire time.

He called the media before he called 911.

And he wonders why people think this is a hoax!

I hope the next big announcement we hear is "Balloon Boy dad taken to court... sued for the resources he wasted."

PrairieMom replied: I didn't see the puking part, but the part I did see the kid couldn't sit up straight, he was all leaning on his dad and could barely hold his head up. sad.gif

I saw where he wanted to call the press conference, but Had a real life to lead, so i missed the actual conference. rolleyes.gif tongue.gif I am sure I will see more of it than I care to in the near future here. rolleyes.gif They need to stop giving this family air time, and start prosecuting them. mad.gif

Crystalina replied: ...and now they've released video tape of Falcon getting real close to the camera and saying, "I'm going to get in it!" rolleyes.gif So fake.

Not only that, how many of YOU have a 6 yr old that will do something and hide in the freakin rafters of your attack? I mean seriously. A kid will hide in a closet or under a bed, they would not go to the extreme of hiding in the ceiling. (now parents trying to hide thier son would dry.gif )

Kentuckychick replied: Looks like criminal charges are on their way for Richard Keene... so clearly during the investigation and interview today something they said was incriminating to themselves.

I agree... I don't know too many children who would climb up into an attic and hide in a box... unless they have a really good reason to hide. Even if this wasn't a hoax I would think CPS would step in to try and figure out why a child would be THAT afraid of his father that he would go to those lengths to hide. unsure.gif

Nina J replied: The kids were in on it, too.

They're both idiots. I feel a bit sorry for them, I guess they wanted attention, but I don't think they wanted everyone in the world to think they were so dumb. I live halfway across the world and these parents are a laughing stock.

Those poor kids though. It is sad, parents are supposed to teach their kids to be honest. I don't know how a parent could try and get their child to be so decietful in such a way. It must've been hard for them.

But honestly. Doesn't Richard Henne know a 6 year old says what a 6 year old thinks? rolling_smile.gif It's kind of funny to think someone could be such a douche.

Kentuckychick replied:
Lol -- I love how the news keeps saying "The kids were also in on the hoax"... I'm like, well no crap! But honestly, just because the kids were "in on it" doesn't make them guilty (I know you weren't saying that Nina). The police were saying they didn't think the kids woud be charged. SERIOUSLY!? Why WOULD the kids be charged. Any adult influential enough in a child's life can get them to do pretty much anything. Children do have minds of their own (hence little Falcon letting the cat out of the bag) but that doesn't mean a six year old (or a ten and eight year old for that matter) won't just do exactly what they're told to do, even if they know it's wrong.

But Mr. Heene forgot one very important thing and that is that a six-year-old is not the best liar in the world. You could tell immediately by the family's reaction on LKL to Falcon's statement that he'd blown their cover.

I'm glad CPS is getting involved, and honestly, if nothing else, I hope these parents learn an almighty lesson from all of this. Those poor children, especially little Falcon will forever be known as the Heene children. The children whose parents pulled the giant Hoax. Little Falcon will always be known as "Balloon Boy"... and no, unlike what the newscasters said, it will not be a "funny story he can tell in highschool." It will be an embarrassment that he will likely never forget. Especially the part where they forced him to go on tv vomiting and then he was the one who gave the whole hoax away. He'll likely always feel shame because of it.

How pathetically sad that any parent could put their children through something like that.

grapfruit replied: And how many 6 yr olds COULD hide for 6 hours ANYWHERE. How many could keep quiet for that long??? I've played hide and seek. Not happening....I always have to go pee once I get into a really good spot. emlaugh.gif

DVFlyer replied: The dad reminds me of my old neighbor, Graham.... something is not right with him.

PrairieMom replied:
now you are just jumping to conclusions. Just because a father exploits his family by putting them on national TV, video tapes them singing bad rap music with questionable lyrics, while sitting in a toilet dressed as Mr. Hankey the Christmas Poo, intentionally puts them in harms way by taking them "storm Chasing" All before involving them in a Hoax for more national TV coverage, probably drugging his kid for TV appearances, and why weren't they in school again? Anyway, Do these things REALLY make him a bad father? huh.gif

rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

I really hope that these kids get some help out of the deal. sad.gif

PrairieMom replied:
Ben could. Well, maybe not for hours, but he dissapeared for a good 40 minutes on us one day. It started out as a fun "game" that he let go a little to far, and the more scared we got, the scareder he got to come out. sad.gif He made my mom cry. Stinker.

MommyToAshley replied: I am thinking that they either medicated him to keep him in the attic or that he wasn't there the entire time and someone else is involved. I can't imagine any kid being able to stay up there quietly for 6 hours. Ashley wouldn't last longer than 15 minutes... actually I don't think she'd even go up there in the first place.

DVFlyer replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

Ya, I'm probably just jumping to conclusions. smile.gif

DVFlyer replied:
"Falcon" has issues. He's either autistic, developmentally disabled... something.

BAC'sMom replied:
That boy could not even stay still on the Larry King interview, so I can’t see him sitting still in an attic for 6 hours.

I think the whole darn family has "issues".
