Brand name vs. generic

lisar replied: There are certain things on food that HAVE to be brand name. They just taste better. Like my Mayo has to be brand name and my peanut butter. Some other stuff doesnt have to be though.
Crystalina replied: I'm a generic type of girl. DH swears there is a difference and will only buy name brand. I can go to any of those grocery stores where things are cheaper because you bag your own groceries and because there aren't too many name brands but I will not buy meat there. I'm not sure if it's the lighting or what but it just doesn't look good. DH will only go to stores with big names (Kroger, Wal-mart...) because he "can tell" the difference.
TheOaf66 replied: going generic doesn't bother me
5littleladies replied: I buy almost everything generic. There are a few things I prefer to be name brand but the taste just doesn't outweigh the savings IMO. We do generic prescriptions too, but our insurance switches them automatically.
My3LilMonkeys replied: We do some generic, some name brand. I bought generic ketchup last time I was at the store and it tasted the same to me but DH swears he could taste the difference. There are certain things I am picky about - toilet paper is a big one - but foodwise I don't usually mind the generics.
Boo&BugsMom replied: Depends on what it is. Meds, generic. The ingredients are the same, just read the label. I am really picky about certain foods...PB, mayo, ketchup, and a few others. I have sampling the Roundy's Organics line lately, which isn't too bad. It's an organic generic line of food.
mammag replied: Depends for me. I'd say about half of what I buy is generic.
Kaitlin'smom replied: like most otheres just depends on what I am getting
My2Beauties replied: For meds, generic if they have them because they are so much cheaper. Otherwise for foods and stuff it depends on what I am buying.
my2monkeyboys replied: Here, too, it depends. We buy brand name mayo, ketchup, and my DH's heartburn meds. He has tried the generic version for a few months, but then he has really bad break-through indigestion/heartburn, so we finally decided to switch back to the name brand and it's working great again. Luckily the 2 aren't very different in price. Most other stuff is what's cheapest at the moment.
Our Lil' Family replied: Some items, mostly ones we eat, I won't buy generic, like Mayo, Ketchup, Milk, Cheese, Soups etc. Some items, especially things like plastic storage bags (although I'm trying not to use those very much) I'll buy the store brand. If I'm at our local grocery store I'm more willing to buy generic, if I'm at WalMart I have a hard time buying generic just because I don't want them to get ALL of the money from me buying the product. Might be crazy but that's just my thoughts on it....oh great, this could spin off on a HUGE WalMart topic!
3xsthefun replied: I buy mostly generic, there are a few things that have to name brand.
luvmykids replied: I don't really care. I notice more on non-essentials, like shampoo. Food I haven't found a ton of difference. There are very few things I splurge on as far as food goes, I have to have REAL mozerella and good bleu cheese. Otherwise I shop on price.
