Brazilian Wax - anyone done it???

tammyhopkins wrote: A girl i work with just went last night for a brazilian wax for the first time and said it never hurt. But for me it isn't hte pain it is someone other than my husband or doctor seeing me down there LOL tongue.gif

Anyway just wondered if anyone here had done it and how long did it last?

sparkys2boys replied: Nope never had it done and I would be like you..lol.. its bad enough to have to have a doc go there. And for some reason I would think it has to hurt some what.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: My friend gets it done and she's trying to get me to do it before we go on vacation, but I don't want that to be my first time to have it done in case I get all red or have a bad reaction, ya know? It's too late to do it now b/c I just shaved (sorry, TMI) and you have to let it grow out.....

She says it does hurt, but the lady she goes to is very good and she says it's pretty discreet and not uncomfortable at all. She actually has it done at the salon in my gym and I know the esthetician. She's very personable. If your friend knows someone who does a great job, then I would use the same person. I think if they have done it a long time they don't need to even look down there. And I'm sure the lights are dimmed.

lisar replied: Thank you but no thank you, I will just shave it myself.

PrairieMom replied: no

katiesmom2002 replied: Im with everyone else. No thank you lol. Im a baby at pain anyways, i hate it. I just watched the real houswives last night and a lady was getting it done on that show and she was screaming lol so again no thank you.

amynicole21 replied: I really want to, but am horrified by the prospect. blush.gif

lisar replied:
I know I saw that episode. (I love that show) She was really screaming about it.

grapfruit replied: No but I want to try it. I have a rough time shaving (I know TMI) b/c I get a rash EVERYTIME. It doesn't matter what I use I always do. I've even tried using deoderant on the "area" after shaving and I still get it bad. And it HURTS. And is ugly. sad.gif

grandma replied: I've only had a bikini was, eyebrows....
The bikini wax is nothing compared to say childbirth....

Maddie&EthansMom replied: and fyi...if you are blonde down there it is harder for the esthetician to see the hair so it may be a little more uncomfortable. wink.gif

luvmykids replied: I've never done it b/c everyone I know who has makes it sound AWFUL laugh.gif

tammyhopkins replied: LOL well i am glad it is not just me that thinks that it would be a little painful. I think i will pass.

Hillbilly Housewife replied: It's definitely not as painful as laser removal. wink.gif

Crystalina replied: I would do it in a heartbeat if I knew of someone in my area that did it. smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied:
Really? A friend of mine had a brazilian hair removal and she said it was more like a sunburn feeling, but didn't last long. I think you have to go back several times and I'm sure the skin can get pretty sensitive down there after so many treatments. She didn't describe it as painful, but now that I think about it, it probably is.

booey2 replied: Nope - not enough down there to do it. wink.gif Another side effect of my hypothyroidism.

lisar replied:
Well then your lucky in that aspect of it. I like it to be clean "down there" and I hate shaving it to many nicks and cranies if you know what I mean.

Calimama replied: I do. I get it done about every 6-7 weeks if I need it. Sometimes I don't. It hurt the first time, but then I got used to it. wink.gif

ETA: To me it feels no different than someone seeing me in my bikini at the beach, the bikini bottom is just lowered. tongue.gif

holley79 replied: I use to get them done all the time when I was younger and pre- child when I actually had a bathing suit body. It wasn't bad at all. Last about 6-8 weeks and no razor burn. Was the best thing ever!

grapfruit replied:
Ok, how "far" do you have to let it grow out before you can get the wax done? I want to do it but I don't know if I should let it go wild and then go? I don't want them to be like "My you came in JUST in time, you're mighty hairy..."

Kirstenmumof3 replied: blush.gif Okay I can't even find a good razor that will keep the hair on my legs from growing back every 2 days! I'm a chicken sh&t and I always flinch when I get my eyebrows done. So no I don't think I would ever have that done!

Calimama replied:
1/4 inch I think! My hair grows pretty slow but I do think if it's too long the waxer may trim it, or you can trim it before you go in. They are REALLY understanding the first time and they'll give you tips to make it easier for the second time. happy.gif

amynicole21 replied:
Are you just talking about a bikini wax or a Brazilian? Can't see how they could just "lower" anything with a brazilian blink.gif

I've been using a wet/dry electric razor down there - can do it in the shower with shaving cream and no bumps or nicks! Of course, you have to do it every day, but it's better than bumps. thumb.gif

Calimama replied:
Brazilian, when I said lower, I meant it's like being in bikini just with the lower part off. You can keep your top on though, which is why it doesn't phase me too much. emlaugh.gif

amynicole21 replied:
Ahhh, gotcha. wink.gif

Cece00 replied: I've done it.

It hurts, but not a lot.

It lasedt (for me) about 3-4 weeks.

I dont get it done, I've only had it a couple of times. It was fun as something to do sometimes but my hair grows really fast & I'd need it done all the time & the cost and time just isnt working for me right now.

I just trim my hair really, really short, but dont shave, and that's just fine. I'm sure I'll do it again in the future every now & then, but not as an all the time thing.

grapfruit replied:
See I think this is the way to go for me. Just trimming really really short. I HATE shaving. It hurts for days after sad.gif

Cece00 replied:
I know, thats why I dont shave either.

I have a pair of barber clippers & I use those...sometimes I talk DH into doing it for me rolling_smile.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: I dont' have a problem with getting bumps when I shave if I grow it out first. But, if I were to shave everyday I would get razor burn. I also don't give myself a brazilian..it's more of a bikini line shave. I think doing the brazilian with a razor would hurt when it grows back.

That's my other question...when you get a wax does it itch when it's growing back?

MommyToAshley replied:
That's what I was wondering too... if it didn't itch then it'd be worth the cost and the humiliatioin (for me). laugh.gif

Hillbilly Housewife replied: It always itches if you wait too long in between... when I used to do it, it would itch if I waited more than 3 weeks to have it redone.

Calimama replied:
Only if I wait more than my 6 weeks. There's a cream you can use if you are itchy. wink.gif

Cece00 replied:
Not for me.

And its really not humiliating IMO.

I'm not one to put it all out there, but those ppl arent phased in the least by it, its really not embarrassing @ all.

Calimama replied:
I agree. It's no more "humiliating" then going to your OB and getting checked. You're in a private room with the door closed and 1 person. huh.gif

and I can't spell. dry.gif

Maddie&EthansMom replied: then if you don't have to grow it out very much and it lasts several weeks (and doesn't itch within a couple of days) I may just go ahead and have it done before I go to the beach. I will talk to my friend some more about it. I'm just afraid it will make me red...even if it does, that should go away.... Honestly, I'm not worried about the pain or discreetness at all. I'm only worried about a reaction of some sort.

Scotty (DH) says I definitely should have it done. emlaugh.gif

Calimama replied:
There's a cream they will give you to help with redness and soothes after you get it done. For the itch there is a cream that is a mix of Aloe Vera and Calamine (sp?) lotion if you need it a few weeks later. Also for the reaction part.. ask them to do a test strip.. before they do the whole wax.. that way you can tell if you're going to have some adverse reaction to it.

MoonMama replied: I get it done and I'm not going to lie it totally sucked and HURT at first. emlaugh.gif But I'm used to it now.

A&A'smommy replied:
have you tried conditioner (let is sit for a little while) then shaving the oposite direction that you normally do? sometimes that helps wink.gif

grapfruit replied:
Yes *sigh* sleep.gif I'm serious, I've tried everything I can think of. I actually go as long as I can between leg shavings as well blush.gif (and the dirty little secrets keep coming out). I have just about the same problem on my upper legs (so I shave the bottoms more frequently). I've even tried the "Nude" or "Cootchie Cream" that is sold specifically for that "area". Doesn't help. rolleyes.gif

CantWait replied:
You and I have the same problem. Bites. dry.gif

A&A'smommy replied:
ick that sucks!!! wink.gif

amynicole21 replied:
I'm telling you guys, get an electric razor!!! It's so much better.

I've used Nair and other stuff down there - you just have to be careful not to get to close to the more sensitive bits... if you know what I mean. Great for up front, not underneath though.

boyohboyohboy replied: can i just be so bold to ask, if you remove all the hair from there, doesnt there seem to be more friction?

Maddie&EthansMom replied: friction? As in sexual?

boyohboyohboy replied: yes, the first time i shave the under side parts, it seems to rub...
and growing back in is worse.

Maddie&EthansMom replied: Yes, I think if you shave it all off (which I have done before) there is more friction. I talked to my friend today and she said it's not like that when you wax and it isn't painful or itchy when it grows back. That's what I wanted to know before I waxed, if it was different than shaving. Apparently it is.

moped replied: I haven't but I would for sure - just haven't gotten around to it

I hate hair!!!!

redchief replied: Whenever I think of depilatory wax, the only visual I get is of "The 40 Year-Old Virgin" lying on the table bleeding as the the oriental girl screams, "We gonna need more wax... Cancel all my appointments!" Then, as if the humiliation and bloodletting weren't bad enough she tells him not to be such a baby. Brazilian? I don't think so.

luvmykids replied:
rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif I love that raunchy movie blush.gif

I tried to wax DH's unibrow once...I didn't check the wax first and it was way too hot. He was screaming that it was burning and I told him to quit being such a wimp, it's supposed to be hot blush.gif laugh.gif He got up and tore it off, along with a chunk of skin in the exact same shape as the wax. That was a hard one to explain to the other guys at rodeos for awhile rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

But, amazingly enough, it turned out to be a good thing...it's never grown back as thick as it was rolling_smile.gif

grapfruit replied:
ohmy.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif rolling_smile.gif

MotherForever2043 replied: All the time! I was so mad when I couldn't get it done when I was pg with the kids. It hurt when I got it done the first time, but now I barely feeel a thing! wink.gif
