Breakfast - need help

Kaitlin'smom wrote: This is my biggest problem is what I can have for breakfast. I really dont have time to sit down in the am at home to eat and I am usully not hungry till I get to work. So what can I eat thats sensible and very portable. Oh and it must be filling I have tried breakfast bars and I feel sooooo hungry after. I know I should not skip breakfast, so I need some ideas.......

thanks

gr33n3y3z replied: yogart and fresh fruit

mammag replied: Many times I reverse meals.... dinner for breakfast/breakfast for dinner. I think breakfast is the most important meal of the day and if you are trying to lose, should be the largest.

How about taking microwave meals into work with you (healthy choice, etc.) and making those? I think you will start to see a huge difference in your energy level throughout the day after eating a good hearty breakfast for a while.

Kaitlin'smom replied:
thats a good Idea but I usually have yougart for a snak in the afternoon, so i am not sure I can eat it twice in one day (not that I should not just me who likes it but not that much)....maybe I can find a different mid after noon snack....

Kaitlin'smom replied:
humm never thogught about that, I kinda always had in my head breakfast food in the am...even though I have had breakfast for dinner.

thanks smile.gif I knew you all would have some good ideas

mom2tripp replied: How about cream of wheat or oatmeal with fresh fruit on top--I think this is very filling---Let us know what you try biggrin.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
ewww no cream of what but I do like some oatmeal-flavored but it only fills me up for an hour maybe 2 then I feel starving, but maybe a serviing of fruit with it would be good to help with that.

thanks thumb.gif

mom2tripp replied: Just had a thought--THe other morning I had a banana and strawberry smoothie and it was SUPER filling. I just put some stawberries and a banana in blender with some milk, put it in a to go cup and I was out the door. By the time I finished it I was really full! ALSO---do you drink a lot of water during the day? I find that the more water I drink between meals the more satisfied I stay--Just some thoughts:)

jacobsmama replied: I know what you mean about breakfast i'm the same way half the time I don't eat it and then get to work and hungry with nothing or inconvienence. I started eating either oatmeal b/c I make it in a styrofoam cup and then can eat at my desk or a bagel at my desk (if no in the car) You should eat your biggest meal at breakfast though that is why I eat the bagel. All good Ideas here though. rolleyes.gif

A&A'smommy replied: What Lisa said I take some grapes and non fat yogurt and water to work with me.. granola bars or lowfat cereal bars just make sure you check the calories first!

jdkjd replied: I used to do a scrambled egg on dry toast. Protein and healthy carbs.

stanleygirl replied: When I don't have time to eat, I carry a container of dry cheerios around for when I do have time to stop and eat. Probably wouldn't do as your entire breakfast, but it could be a part of it sometimes.

Josie83 replied: The yoghurt and fruit sounds like a god idea. Not too heavy on a monring but will fill you up for a while! Then you could switch your snack to a different fruit or cereal or something? xx

booey2 replied: You could also try wrapping up fillings in a wrap, like eggs, meats, pb&banana, or whatever you feel like. Very portable and filling, just becareful of the wraps you buy because they can be high in fat. Pita pockets are great for this too.

coasterqueen replied:
That's a good idea!

When I was doing WW I would go to McD's on the way to work and get their scrambled eggs and an oj. Sometimes I'd add a hashbrown in there if I thought I'd have the extra points. That always curbed my appetite for a few hours.

I haven't found anything to curb it until lunch time though. rolleyes.gif

Kaitlin'smom replied:
thats a good idea but I dont have tiem in the am to make something like that I can bairly get a sandwich made for lunch, and most of the time I dont get that done. Yes I have tried to make it the ngiht before but I done not taste good to me the next day.

moped replied: Yogurt

Fruit

Bagel

I eat Slim Fast bars at work to prevent me from going into the cookie cupboard

Sunflower04 replied: I don't eat until I get to work either. I usually bring in a box of cereal (i eat Kashi - Good Friends) and leave it here. Then I just grab a plastic bowl or a throw away one and put milk in a sippy cup that joey isn't using everything. And it fills me. yummy.gif

mysweetpeasWil&Wes replied: Yogurt is the best bet for taking on the go...but add some sliced almonds or whatever nuts you like (but they must be raw, no dry roasted). The nuts add protein, although the yogurt has protein too. But this will help fill you up. Or do the nuts for your afternoon snack. Or do the nuts on fruit...just don't eat a huge huge bowl of fruit alone...it's carbs and sugar. You'll crash by mid morning. Also, they make oatmeal in those instant soup containers...that's easy and definitely a filler. You can add nuts to oatmeal too or ground flaxseed (high in Omega 3's).

Most of those breakfast bars have a lot of sugar in them so that's probably why you feel hungry after a little while. Same goes for smoothies IMO.

Can you make a breakfast wrap the night before??

For a snack...cut up veggies and bring a small container of hummus (high in protein). I'm not an all-protein person, no Atkins for me, but protein does help fill you up and give you good energy. For me, it's all about balance...do eggs one morning, oatmeal the next, yogurt with almonds the next...you'll get burnt out on something if you eat it every day.
